I honestly don’t understand why any woman with a brain in her head, regardless of scientific background, regardless of their view on feminism (ie even those in the camp of “feminism has gone too far” etc) can think that biology is irrelevant.

Did they completely fail to notice their periods, pregnancy and healthcare situations?! Confused

LangCleg · 16/03/2018 12:34

I swear, the entire liberal left establishment in this country is actively campaigning for a right wing backlash.

KochabRising · 16/03/2018 12:32

Maybe we can all identify as the cabinet and sort things out? I’ll take the science minister post.

Anyone fancy identifying as PM?

You can’t tell me I’m wrong because that’s imaginarypolitivianaphobic and you’re a huge bigot

Now vote for me

Ellenripleysalienbaby · 16/03/2018 12:06

This whole 'biology is an outdated social construct thing' is just such BULLSHIT.

If Munroe Bergdorf (for example) had sex with her 'lesbian' partner and they wanted to ensure that a baby was not conceived, would they or would they not have to use contraception? And why? And how is it different to most lesbian couples who do not have to consider contraception if they want to avoid pregnancy?

Conversely, does Paris Lees need to worry about getting pregnant if they have sex with a man? Why not?

It seems like questions like this would blow Leanne Wood's tiny mind. It's not really what we want from people running our country is it?

Kneedeepinunicorns · 16/03/2018 11:57

To underline the key bits of that if you read this thread Ms Wood:

The movement you are supporting is deeply and extremely:

Homophobic
Racist
Sexist

It disproportionately affects:

people from situations of deprivation and poverty whose services are being appropriated
women from ethnic cultures and faiths
women at risk of sexual harassment, abuse and assault
children

It 'trumps' safeguarding practice in all areas which WILL end with serious case reviews taking place: the victims WILL BE women and children.

It promotes and supports mens sexual rights while removing women's consent, boundaries and right to privacy and bodily autonomy in public places.

And you are OK with that. While holding a public office.

Kneedeepinunicorns · 16/03/2018 11:51

If anyone can I'D as female then what will happen to the female only swimming sessions which ( where I used to live) where largely used by certain ethnic /religious minorities who would not use the facility when males were around?

Lois that one has been covered by the TIM 'womens officer' for CLP Rochester. Apparently those women must be educated out of their ethnicity and faith based beliefs. Which basically means - as all this will in reality mean - many women, particularly vulnerable women and older women - will simply stop accessing those spaces and experience a great loss of freedom and liberation.

But apparently that's ok because they're nasty and stupid and old and should just die anyway.

Seriously. This is the society our ruddy politicians believe in.

The thought of teenaged university TIMs lecturing ethnic/religious minority women about identity politics is almost as awful as the Deptford group having their middle class privileged TRA university students taking over meetings for their homeless/drug and alcohol dependent/fleeing violence people to 'educate' them about the correct language, and that those students with their adopted labels are so much more oppressed and in need than the service users, including the few transsexual service users who have been known to the group and cared for for years. Utterly oblivious to their own extreme arrogance and self centredness, while shouting loudly how very inclusive, 'intersectional' and socialist they are.

Nothing is less intersectional, inclusive or tolerant than the TRA movement.

HipposGoBerserk · 16/03/2018 11:19

Yes upstart it seems there are so many agendas. My head is spinning.

It's not a great view from the peak but thanks for helping me up here anyway!

TheGoldenBough · 16/03/2018 11:16

This makes me so sad. And mad! I have been telling my DCs since tiny tiny people that there are no "boy" or "girl" things - there are just Things That People Like.

Same here.

What you like is determined by what interests you not by your genitals.

CAAKE · 16/03/2018 11:15

Practicing being a politician in the mirror maybe?

HA!

Cliques · 16/03/2018 10:59

I am devastated. Plaid voter in a marginal constituency where I want to support my plaid MP. I cannot vote plaid anymore.

I actually feel really bereft. I have always loved their left wing credentials. The erasure of women is a right wing movement, and I never thought they would fall for it.

UpstartCrow · 16/03/2018 10:56

HipposGoBerserk the longer this goes on, the more convinced I am that many people support it because they are closet racists.

HipposGoBerserk · 16/03/2018 10:55

Oh yes, I see what you mean.

LoislovesStewie · 16/03/2018 10:49

I think I just find it amusing that the politicians are keen to be inclusive to certain ethnic minorities and will find themselves wondering how to appease everyone. I suspect that I just like to annoy some politicians!

HipposGoBerserk · 16/03/2018 10:45

Lois, I don't know what will happen to single sex swimming sessions but I do know some people won't care if they go. Lots of things have brought me here, small incident on small incident. One of them was a conversation with a female millennial colleague. She was expressing her dislike for the single sex ( she used the word gender) swimming and gym sessions at her local gym. Her feelings were they were for people who really needed to understand that men and women are equal. I think she meant "the same". The suggestion was that it's regressive to separate humans.

Other people I spoke to have no truck with the separation by sec for religious reasons. The argument is we are not a Muslim (for example, as that's the main example in the area I know ) country so shouldn't "pander "to views seem as sexist and "not British".

I'm sorry, all that sounds awful but I'm just collating views, not expressing my own.

NoSquirrels · 16/03/2018 10:45

@TheGoldenBough
I went on to describe other 'boy' things and she just said really quietly "but I like some of those things..."

This makes me so sad. And mad! I have been telling my DCs since tiny tiny people that there are no "boy" or "girl" things - there are just Things That People Like.

Their generation is really being sold a line here in the name of "progress". I don't remember gender being at all important when I was a kid. Either for or against.

Janie143 · 16/03/2018 10:30

Mmmm I wonder what will happen when no adult human females go in any of the sex segregated places/activities anymore and only TIMs are there Where will they get their "validation" from then?

LoislovesStewie · 16/03/2018 10:24

If anyone can I'D as female then what will happen to the female only swimming sessions which ( where I used to live) where largely used by certain ethnic /religious minorities who would not use the facility when males were around? I envisage all sorts of tying up in knots to sort that out.

TheGoldenBough · 16/03/2018 10:21

My daughter (12) told me a couple of days ago that "gender is how you feel inside". School had told her Angry

I asked her what gender she feels like inside and she just looked at me. So I asked if she understood the question or how to answer it. She said "not really".

So we talked about gender stereotypes and how you might be able to tell A Girl and she nodded to some and turned her nose up at others.

Then we talked about how you might be able to tell A Boy. She laughed and agreed with some of the things - loud; have smelly toilets at school; have short hair (although she objected to that as some of her male friends/brother have long hair) and then I went on to describe other 'boy' things and she just said really quietly "but I like some of those things..."

Oh. Yes of course you do. Are you a boy? (No) So are those really 'boy' things then? (No)

And then we thought of her friends and the ways in which they do/don't fit the stereotypes (spoiler: most of them don't...)

And then she signed the petition.

I did have to steer her away from going to school and re educating everyone though. Which bothers me, but I can't afford for her to get into trouble at achool.

Sir, my daughter also asked if we could move the country.

She asked what self I D would mean and I just explained really calmly (I don't want to scare her!) and she said "but that means evil men could go into the girls toilets and just say they are girls" and "but boys are stronger than girls. Won't they win all the sports?" and "why can't boys and girls just like what they like?"

aRespectableBureaudeChange · 16/03/2018 10:16

Btw my hair isn't too shabby either, buf i I can see bigger picture on potential outcomes from saying stupid things.

Taking care of one's hair clearly does not mean you're a vacant robot - just in some cases....

aRespectableBureaudeChange · 16/03/2018 10:13

I think we can safely say Leanne knows nothing - she is busy with her beehive hairdo or something , fuck knows what she is doing when she should be researching issues.

Practicing being a politician in the mirror maybe?

Janie143 · 16/03/2018 10:02

I wonder who thought up this fantastic way of taking the vote away from adult human females in the UK? It can't be reversed openly but find an issue they will be against and get all parties stick together on it Viola they have no one to vote for

OldCrone · 16/03/2018 09:55

my 13 year old signed petition- she is on the ball with this from the side of receiving the gender pressure to conform to a stereotype or you are in the wrong body.
I wonder if people like LW know how this is playing out for young people. Do they realise that this isn't just a game of playing at identity politics? This is playing with real lives, the lives of young people who don't have our resilience and understanding of what is at stake.

aRespectableBureaudeChange · 16/03/2018 09:42

Sir: my 13 year old signed petition- she is on the ball with this from the side of receiving the gender pressure to conform to a stereotype or you are in the wrong body.

She asked if she could sign and if I could find out. I did and anyone can sign - think of it as a petition in the street.

If you go on the petition website you will see there are stacks of random petitions - we are asking to be heard in the shaping of debate and not told we are transphobic for doing so.

This is just a petition and I don't think we need to worry - my husband has signed after having this very conversation of can it be perceived negatively? No is the answer.

It's the equivalent of sitting at the back of the class waiting with your hand up for the teacher to ask what you'd like to say.

The activists are the ones in the wrong and misrepresenting us .

joannajoy · 16/03/2018 09:34

As to who is funding trans -

Big players. Really big players.

I've read stuff naming George Soros, and Bill Gates (through Planned Parenthood).

(Haven't got links, but a quick google will bring up the info)

And here's an article link for more billionaire finders ....
