Now the chief executive of the body promoting women's equality in Wales is of the same mind as Leanne. I am so depressed...

Everything i'd like to say has been said but i'm just going to leave this here incase Leanne reads this.

Leanne, i've always liked you as a politician and have given you a lot of support on my social media but i'm afraid that i'll be discontinuing that support now that I see your position on women.

PeteAndManu · 17/03/2018 14:59

Mayday - yes The Times reporting is critical, response of senior labour backbencher -Yvette Cooper etc in backing the Govenment response is and comments on Newsnight and Any Questions. Mind you Owen Jones had a spirited defence of Corbyn.

InLoveWithDavidTennant · 16/03/2018 22:41

Politically homeless here too. Have always been a green voter, but voted labour last time because i wanted tory out and knew green didnt stand a chance.

Greens totally lost my vote with the non-men bullshit and even more so recently with the women of all genders bullshit too.

There is not one party the supports or is interested in biological women. Its a fucking disgrace!

Mayday01 · 16/03/2018 18:28

PeteandManu, is he getting criticised for his response?
He has a gift of coming out and giving an opinion when he should remain silent, and radio silence when you need him there as an effective opposition.

TheGoldenBough · 16/03/2018 17:01

Also politically homeless.

It will be a spoiled ballot for me at the mext electin unless something major happens.

I can't vote Tory and there is no one else.

As a lifelong Labour supporter, I'm gutted.

PeteAndManu · 16/03/2018 16:56

I’m politically homeless too -voted for the Independant candidate last time. No liberal candidate, won’t vote Labour, conservative or UKIP. Feeling this our politicians have no vision, leadership or courage. After Corbyn’s response to the Salisbury poisoning I don’t know if Labour can ever come back.

failingatlife · 16/03/2018 16:32

still can’t vote UKIP and I’m not in Scotland

The SNP is fully supportive of self-ID

Sadly I think the SNP will push this through soon in the name of 'progression'. Had a quick google of this new Scottish Family Party. They are against self id but i'm not keen on their stance generally. I am now a politically homeless Scot Angry Sad

KochabRising · 16/03/2018 16:17

langcleg yes, I agree.

Elendon · 16/03/2018 15:27

TheGoldenBough You were right, in my opinion, to discuss this with her. Honestly it sounds like an inculcation into a religious sect.

ChristianPOV · 16/03/2018 15:23

They are all liars, liars, liars, every party and that's why I am not voting for any of them.

ChristianPOV · 16/03/2018 15:22

I often wonder where we'd be if Corbyn and Bromentum had won the last Election, and what the UK would be like after 4years.
I remember praying at the time that Corbyn would win!

I voted for Labour despite going off Corbyn and have since thought the same thing. I can't vote labour again whilst it is hating on women, happy to gaslight and make children sterile to please men.

Mayday01 · 16/03/2018 15:18

Disclaimer - not that any of the other parties are covering themselves with Glory on this issue btw.

VaguelyAware · 16/03/2018 15:17

For pity's sake. Why are people still peddling this bullshit.

I absolutely support the right of everyone to present themselves however they want. To feel safe, to have dignity & support. But everyone means everyone. No one group should have the right to demand any of thise things at the expense of any other group.

Everyone is potentially at risk of sexual assault. Males, Females, children,
& the elderly. Gay, straight, trans, intersex, genderfluid. Disabled, POC. Anyone. Male & female people can potentially perpetrate these crimes however the vast majority are committed by people identified male at birth. And while everyone who suffers such a crime must surely go through trauma, it is only biological females of childbearing age who have the additional concern of potential pregnancy & its consequences. Speaking as someone who endured repeated violent rape within a longterm relationship I find the TRA attitude on this to be deeply exclusionary & hateful.

If misogyny was recognised as a hate crime I suspect the crime statistics in this country, probably many countries, would look very different. I sometimes wonder if that's part of the reason why the government doesn't want to change the law. I think perhaps pushing for this would be helpful as it would help to shut down a large part of the TRAs arguments by showing them up for exactly what they are.

LangCleg · 16/03/2018 14:37

I said this when brexit happened - there is a huge backlash against this kind of extreme left viewpoint. I believe it helped the brexit campaign and I believe it helped trump get in as well.

The thing is, ID pol is not an extreme left movement. It's an authoritarian movement hijacking the language of the left. It has no class analysis. It's highly individualistic and nothing at all to do with, for example. socialism.

That's what's so infuriating for those of us who actually are on the left. We have nowhere to go at all.

There is a sore need for a sensible, moderate political stance just now

I've said this before on here but I do think this. The old centre position collapsed with the financial crisis in 2008. We will be unstable until a new one emerges and you can see this via Trump, Brexit and other events throughout the advanced Western economies. Speaking personally, I would likely still be to the left of any new centre position but that doesn't mean I don't think we need one. We do. So that our politics can orbit around it and the extremities aren't commanding centre stage.

OvaHere · 16/03/2018 14:33

Indeed Kochab

A few days ago in Canada Doug Ford (brother of Rob) became the new leader of Ontario's PC Party. He's got similar appeal to Trump and there are definitely movements growing dedicated to get him elected in the same way that happened in the US.

Canada has been at the forefront of a lot of far left politics and the C-16 bill has resulted in a lot of pushback.

I don't know if it will play out that way because Trump has certainly been a learning curve for many but the growing sentiment is there.

KochabRising · 16/03/2018 14:11

There is a sore need for a sensible, moderate political stance just now - frankly I’m no longer that bothered if it has a slight left or right stance. Because the alternative is that the extreme left descends into this totalitarian maccarthy ite horror and the extreme right/populist parties fill the gap.

We are seeing it all over Europe and it’s already happened in the USA. It’s a massive swing away from the generally sensible, slowly progressive politics we’ve had the last twenty years and it’s very worrying.

Who does it serve? A small elite. I don’t know if there’s an agenda under it all or if certain groups are just making everything they cannout of it but it’s not going to end well. We are going down a very dangerous road.

Dh laughed at me last year when I said that this was all part of a bigger picture and there would be war in Europe within ten years. I stand by that. Austerity, inequality, population rise, populism, and non linear black swan political events. It’s not good.

ChristianPOV · 16/03/2018 14:10

Maybe an updated Liar, liar video - Like the one doing the rounds during the election - should be made about Leanne and the other gaslighters.

Mouthtrousersafrocknowandthen · 16/03/2018 14:01

@LangCleg

I spent much of last year trying to understand what the Trump election commentators meant when they said it was a backlash against identity politics. When Steve Bannon said just throw this stuff out there and let the left eat itself after Trump stopped reassignment surgery funding in the military.

I understand now.

Mouthtrousersafrocknowandthen · 16/03/2018 13:54

A feminism that understands that gender is a complex and deeply personal thing, and is about so much more than outdated ideas of biology.

What the fuck is that type of feminism then?

I realise my biology is getting on in years but is still in date. There is no use by date. Is she finding her biology a bit out of date? Perhaps we all should have some top surgery and take some hormones! Update your biology women, if you want to be a proper feminist.

What a fucking stupid thing to say. Politicians. the bar is pretty low huh?

womanformallyknownaswoman · 16/03/2018 13:39

Unfortunately many of the parliamentary reps I've met at unimpressive to say the least and not bright nor critical thinkers. They have no idea re tech for example - most are not fit for purpose in this day and age

TittyGolightly · 16/03/2018 13:34

She’s as thick as pig shit.

whoputthecatout · 16/03/2018 13:09

I've watched her a number of times on QT and she never struck me as the sharpest knife in the box.

Mayday01 · 16/03/2018 13:03

I'm still 😂 at 'outdated ideas of biology'.
I can't believe she's put that out to the public, I really can't.
