Students supporting trans ideology taking over working class projects

This is a really interesting thread.

It seems that proponents of trans ideology are often students with a fair hint of the petty bourgeois and a disdain for the working class.

That thread is so true, the most marginalised in society, in fact most of society don't have the time or inclination for the navel gazing that is identity politics.

Yet (mostly) white, (mostly) middle-class (mostly) young people are imposing this on people and explaining to them that it is only because they are ignorant that they don't know about this.

It's incredibly patronising.

That's an interesting parallel re the Miner's strike. Women were very involved in the 1980s strike - both in their communities and in making alliances with others. I was in London and I recall numerous miners and women from the pits visiting and speaking at political events and vice versa.
Those 'on the left' got involved, protested, marched and worked alongside mining communities and supported their struggle - but on the miner's terms. I don't recall any wholesale take over of miners or their communities.

Today transactivists don't get involved and march alongside women. They define themselves as a superior group, take over women's language and spaces, rename us, demand that we are silent about our biological oppression and women's issues, redefine lesbianism in their own image, want the laws changed to their advantage and to the disadvantage of women and children.

They class their behaviour as political activism but it is NOTHING like that. It is a self indulgent ideological cult that promotes their fantastical world view to the detriment of the rest of society. But until recently society has seen this as a benign political movement - and we have to change that narrative.

Such a powerful comment from the Deptford activists.

I'm sure some of us have met before; long ago in the deep dark recesses of the 1980s...

LM has also liked a tweet from someone called 'Laura' wittering on about how her nan was one of the only women marching for the miners in 84/85.

I was arrested for insulting a police officer during the miner's strike. On a port picket. I was rude to him because he called me a commie slag! (No charge brought, but still.)

This thread is over on the HoC meeting thread. But I'm glad it's got a thread of its own because it's that good - and right too.

This is what I said on the HoC thread:

Labour finally get an actual left wing leader, only to watch him transform the party into a playground for gentrifying ID pol fools. Especially, as the statement says, people from Goldsmith's, the locus of UK queer and pomo ideologues.

CertainHalfDesertedStreets I was there too, so either I'm her nan or I imagined the large numbers of women (miner's wives and activists) marching with the miners.

Alongside many other women, I was also involved in various other strikes as 'flying pickets' in the early 80s.

What I will say is this. I was involved in far left politics and the men were some of the most sexist I've ever met. Example, they had, at one point, an 'anarchist bird watching club' which I couldn't join as it was for men only. They had a macho attitude towards everything.

Dicks.

Wow, really good thread. Thanks for sharing.

Very interesting.

I was there and there were fucking thousands of women involved in that strike and the preceding ones in the 70s. It's pretty fucking galling to hear about how women have always taken a back seat and the working classes have been getting class struggle wrong from this bunch of arseholes tbh...

Thank you. This is a very important, not to mention heartening, thread.
