Relevant section:

Meanwhile, a woman who criticised a transgender charity on Twitter has been questioned under caution by police and told she will be arrested if she tries to leave the country. Kellie-Jay Keen- Minshull accused the group Mermaids of “suppressing free speech”.

She had accused Mermaids, which calls for children to be allowed irreversible sex-change treatment the NHS currently prohibits, of “prey[ing]” on gay teenagers and of “mass child abuse”. Mermaids declined to comment.

Has common sense ( or literally any sense ) completely disappeared?

This is what I don't get. On what planet would you decide that mutilating your child's body is the best choice over say therapy or just buying them a fucking doll

TheMonstrousRegiment · 11/03/2018 18:45

Ugh, I didn't know the details of that story, now I feel ill. Honestly, I am astonished that the 'world' isn't jumping on that situation and appalled at what happened/is happening to the child.

Why is this being celebrated and supported? Has common sense ( or literally any sense ) completely disappeared?

Anatidae · 11/03/2018 18:41

Jesus. I had lego and dinosaurs and a chemistry set. Hated dolls. Hated pink.

I’m still a woman, because guess what? Girls can like dinosaurs ffs.

This rigid gender stereotyping plus the psychological manipulation and then physical alteration... of course it’s child abuse. It’s horrific.

TallulahWaitingInTheRain · 11/03/2018 18:40

first do no harm

BeyondDeadlySiren · 11/03/2018 18:39

It's absolutely MBP, I can't see it any other way.

Just rather than poisoning a child with a physical poison, they've been brainwashed and poisoned by stereotypes.

TallulahWaitingInTheRain · 11/03/2018 18:39

What I don't get is how everyone seems to have listened to this batshittery and gone "fair enough, let's override all existing child protection practice, evidence-based practice in paediatric health care, medical ethics and freedom of speech so we can help to progress this agenda"

TerranceandPhilip · 11/03/2018 18:39

Terrance and Phillip - what is the hate crime or alleged hate crime in this instance, do you know

Given the alleged offence was on Twitter, it's likely to be either an offence under malicious comms act, or a transphobically aggravated public order offence.

As it's the CPS which decide whether it meets charging standards, I'm not sure why posters are blaming the police on this

mamaryllis · 11/03/2018 18:37

Whether they 'officially' trained WYP is something of an irrelevance, if the investigating Hate Crime Officer is Jackie Green's BFF and it's her mam that made the complaint. Please tell me I have totally misunderstood that??? It literally cannot be the case, can it? Not even the biggest conspiracy theorist could make up something so utterly utterly fantastical... PLEASE tell me that was a joke...

BoreOfWhabylon · 11/03/2018 18:37

Indeed Datun

What SG describes sounds like child abuse to me.

Datun · 11/03/2018 18:32

That TED talk.

I don't get it. I really don't.

Susie Green had an utterley ingrained belief that certain toys are for girls and certain toys are for boys.

She was so devastated by her child's toy choice she took him to the doctor? And was desperately hoping it was a phase. Why? Why couldn't he choose his preferences for the rest of his life?

Her husband took all the kids' toys away and the kid became withdrawn.

I can think of a few things less traumatising than taking away all a kid's toys and telling them, in no uncertain circumstances, that they are wrong. He even asked his grandmother for a doll, but said to keep it secret from his parents.

Good grief.

No wonder he thought he was a girl, for God sake. It's been reinforced to him every step of the way.

She even apologised to him, aged SIX, that he couldn't have the operation yet, but he could when he was older.

And she still uses gendered words like diva and hot and 'she can wrap her dad around her little finger'. It's such a bloody cliche.

Susie Green wouldn't recognise feminism if it bit her on the arse.

Gender is damaging.

I have often wondered about gender dysphoria. And how it is triggered.

I believe that video goes a long way to explaining it.

I'm really shocked.

I mean she didn't even try and hide it. She can't. Because she truly believes it. She truly believes that stereotypes matter.

Why would you tell the world that you took all his toys away because they were wrong? It's so stupid.

BeyondDeadlySiren · 11/03/2018 18:28

Rowdy, IMO she wants to share the details so she gets praised for being wonderful and brave. Nothing to do with JG, it's just her own narcissism. And she definitely doesn't want any negative feedback, or even neutral statements of facts. Just the fawning.

IMO of course.

Somethingweird · 11/03/2018 18:27

Blimey. And I thought all those Orwell quotes were a bit far fetched.

WYP are going to have to explain their outrageous bias and cosiness with Mermaids.

I too am shocked at the TED talk. Great basis for a Psychology PhD on child development.

Please let us know what we can do to support you
Hope you are ok

Mogleflop · 11/03/2018 18:24

Posie you're braver than me, good luck. Thanks

rowdywoman1 · 11/03/2018 18:21

I wonder whether they trained 'your ' police Posie? The CEO of Mermaids has been so publicly open about what happened with her child, holding it up as a role model for others that it defies belief that she now challenges someone's rights to comment. If you don't want comment, then don't share the information - as she was doing way back in 2011:

According to their website, they have trained police forces. In trying to find forces actually cited, I came across this thread from last year: www.mumsnet.com/Talk/womens_rights/3054431-Mermaids-story-in-the-Sunday-Times-today

Snowyrange · 11/03/2018 18:16

pisacake · 11/03/2018 18:14

somebody tried to investigate that, but were banned www.theguardian.com/education/2017/sep/25/bath-spa-university-transgender-gender-reassignment-reversal-research

you aren't allowed to conduct research that criticised the transgenda.

LoislovesStewie · 11/03/2018 18:13

Sorry not read whole thread , but does anyone know how many regret gender reassignment? Interested to know.

therealposieparker · 11/03/2018 18:12

Mermaids has trained police, cps, nhs, Banardos, lots of places. Kids company for trans innit?

rowdywoman1 · 11/03/2018 18:09

Has Mermaids provided training to West Yorkshire police or other police forces? I ask as, if they have, there's a huge ethical issue in terms of being one of the campaigning organisations that is attempting to change the boundaries of the law, safeguarding practice, social beliefs and behaviour. The group then trains the police in this new set of beliefs and then whenever others in society fail to adhere to these beliefs, the organisation releases their newly trained enforcers on to them.

It's a brilliant strategy. Of course, the big question is why have the government enabled such organisations to embark on this wholesale changes of the law without consulting the rest of the population?

TerfyMcTerface · 11/03/2018 18:06

On the one hand, there is raping someone. On the other, there is stating facts. Do you really not see the difference? Worrying,

TheGoalIsToStayOutOfTheHole · 11/03/2018 18:06

I don't see how criticizing a company such as mermaids is a hate crime? Nor expressing an opinion about child abuse being, well, child abuse. Can you please explain this to me, must be a bit dim today Blush

pisacake · 11/03/2018 18:05

Why are you comparing rape to talking about stuff on Twitter?

Are you a MRA?
