International Women's Day Mass Cancelling of Labour Memberships Action

I am passing on an action started by @mayday4women on Twitter; they aren't on Mumsnet so they said I could post here for them.

Basically they are getting a lot of women contacting them saying they are cancelling their Labour memberships due to the decision by Labour's NEC to essentially take on self ID as party policy in every area, including re AWS. And they think it'd be a more powerful statement if women did it en masse together on International Women's Day, which is the 8th March (Thursday).

The idea is to let Labour see how important this is to women, and how badly they are letting women down. Everyone can always reinstate their memberships down the line, but this is a way to be seen and heard, and to make a statement. I'm not a member of any political party myself right now, but as I say I am passing this on and doing all I can to support my sisters in the Labour Party.

Mayday for women are drawing up a statement, and you can get in touch with them directly if you want to let them know you are taking part in the action: mayday4women@gmail

Cheers!

Oh my, the misogynistic ranting - always a winning approach to an argument.

FYI, some of us have woken up to the Labour Party view of women. And frankly, Theresa May’s strong record on campaigning for victims of domestic violence is far more appealing anyway.

Xenophile · 07/03/2018 08:23

Jennifer James is making history.

She definitely is. Whereas the delightful ploppers are trying to recreate history by regressing women’s rights by a good few decades.

They not only erroneously believe the canard “trans women are women” but appear unable to discern that this is quite clearly leading to a belief that “trans women are better women than actual women”

And as for the whole “you should be putting more money into DV shelters, post sexual violence support and anti austerity measures” who the hell do you think has been picking up the pieces of the depredations of the Tories?

I’m not entirely sure it’s women like us who need to remove our heads from bodily orifices here.

AngryAttackKittens · 07/03/2018 08:18

I would imagine most CPL's will be holding great parties when you transphobes leave the Labour Party, Anyone who disagrees with you has to be male so again it boils down to what you have in your pants. You are certainly not feminists that has got lost along the way.
You have made the whole situation a joke and have shown the whole of sensible Labour supporters your true colours, and You have Failed miserably at getting the support you wanted,

Random capitalization and a sentence ended with a comma! Either MRA or FeMRA, though FeMRAs usually write better.

Like Unicorns said, it's far too late to be trying this kind of amateur level manipulation. We're long past the "is it OK to talk about this?" stage and well into the "let's organize and fight back" stage.

Ain't it funny how all those years I was good enough to stuff their envelopes, deliver the (can I say it now - mindnumbingly dull) newsletters and freeze my arse off outside polling stations? And yet all the time I was a hateful bigot.

I cannot join you in resigning I'm afraid as I gave up my membership some time ago. All I can now do is register my protest in the ballot box.

What I take from the likes of sallyanne and co is that this is unlikely to lead to any period of reflection inside the Labour Party. Yes they will miss us when they need some work doing. Of course they have their new recruits to replace us but I doubt they have realised yet how crashingly dull most of it is - just like women's work everywhere. So good luck with that.

But I imagine inside the party, the narrative has already been written: if they win without us there will be unconfined glee and if they lose, they will be able to blame it on women - and older women at that. Expect a nasty backlash either way.

It doesn't make any difference. I can't see anyway back for me. I think this is a runaway train now.

Patodp · 07/03/2018 07:40

Jennifer James is hisory

Jennifer James is making history.

I imagine forever after the results of Jennifer James V Jeremy Corbyn Labour party will be referred back to.

Sorry Tim Cockballs, James V Corbyn (2018) set a precedent, the High Court has ruled that men can't say they're women and expect anyone to believe them anymore.

obviously I am not a lawyer

Ritzsaltedcrackers · 07/03/2018 05:53

Sallyanne, Jennifer has not lost and she isn’t history. She, like most of us on here, is just getting started. We are not going away. Sorry about that.

PositivelyPERF · 07/03/2018 01:41

Mouthtrousersafrocknowandthen I’m really going to stop having crushes on other posters. It’s getting embarrassing, but you rock!

AnotherQuoll there’s no doubt he’s here. You don’t think he’d pass up an opportunity to put on another identity and try to abuse women, do you? That’s how he gets his kicks.

AnotherQuoll · 07/03/2018 01:14

What's the bet she has to come here to rant at us because she's blocked everyone on Twitter. Much like ninny Helen does. And I suppose now she.. I mean "they" have to get back to icing a cake.

Mouthtrousersafrocknowandthen · 07/03/2018 01:10

Today I will be explaining to a major uni that we still have sex differentials on pay because sex discrimination has been around in work for decades. Fluffing this with gender feels is of no interest to us women that have experienced sex discrimination on pay for decades.
Just ask me to include a TIM in the female sex category and I will just leave your words hanging for an eternity, and ignore you. What you donuts don't realise is that women collect data. Old women like me. We are in control.

Guilders15 · 07/03/2018 01:09

Sallyannemum Labour party member here and lifelong labour voter -been reading through these threads over past few weeks - late starter - really appalled at the party's lack of regard for genuine concerns of women and your tone is truly shocking, not something I want to be associated with I you are a labour party member

"Transwomen are women" - the brainwashing programme has started. Mobilising "brainwashing for dissidents" - we will have you believing the sky is pink before the next election.... NOT.

I object.

Datun · 07/03/2018 00:55

Gosh, these misogynists get very cross, don't they?

Go fuck yourselves, get your heads out of your vaginas, you've lost. Tch tch.

Do you think they go on some kind of training course called 'how to make the most counter-productive comments possible'?

Oi, strange little women haters. You do realise you've just said all that to 12,000,000 women, don't you?

Score!

Mouthtrousersafrocknowandthen · 07/03/2018 00:46

What a ghastly shit show of a "woman" that man has turned out to be.

When I joined WEP, I paid to be a lifetime founder member. I was invited to an event for founder members who had paid the lifetime fee. I went into the event room and scanned it as you do, in the corner there was a small table of four people. I looked at them and they looked at me. I was distracted because I wanted to see Sophie and the other leaders but kept looking back at this odd table tucked away, there was something not right . It was to me than there were four people sat there that were not of this moment, not really of the time, not really of the place and not engaging with what was happening in the room . I now know they are not women. Their malevolence was tangible at the time. I felt it. So these dudes were there all along. Gaslighting. It wasn't a fancy dress party fellas, that was meant to be a moment for women. What were you doing there? Taking over and making it all about you?

UpstartCrow · 07/03/2018 00:45

Aaww we're going to miss stuffing envelopes and making endless cups of cheap Fairtrade coffee for the bros!

They can't bear women talking about: politics; being women; fertility; sex; sexuality. I think we're supposed to be intimidated into silence. Grin

OlennasWimple · 07/03/2018 00:36

Here's Pilgrim Tucker's piece in the Huff Post saying why Labour has got this wrong

Terftastic · 07/03/2018 00:34

Don't you just love the trolls who join up, having no clue about what's MN is about?

Upstartcrow - I'll take your version of It's my Party - and raise you this the first single I ever bought age 11 Smile

Incidentally, I've never known a political party who was campaigning for fewer votes. Confused But go for it, Labour! Go Lily!

PositivelyPERF · 07/03/2018 00:30

It’s hilarious that the TRAs MRAs are so convinced we’re losing and care so little about what we have to say, that they feel the need to invade Mumsnet. Of course we’re no threat, that’s why they constantly tell us how we should behave and how we should think. 😏 Just to let you know lads, Stepford Wives was a work of fiction. Real women aren’t as easy to brainwash.

ChocolateCoveredGrapes · 07/03/2018 00:27

100 years, 100 resignations. Get it now?

I had no idea having tits made me sub human until I joined the Royal Navy in 1981. Fortunately I did not have the same perception of my self that I encountered on joining having grown up in remote countryside with three brothers. I raced for the RN and Royal marines in a sport where skill was all that mattered. I made sex irrelevant. When women in the RN were on women's pay scales. I walked straight through the perception that women are less than men restrictions by not being less than men.

Men are not doing the same thing to women now. Men are not saying that they don't need to compete on a level playing field. They are saying the opposite to that. They are saying they will defeat women because they can and will use inherent maleness. They make everything every woman have done to compete meaningless. They are cheats. I achieved on men's terms because I had no choice. They are not doing that. Do not give them this choice.

Terftastic · 07/03/2018 00:15

now just what is she going to do with all that cash she raised

She's already said. Skiing in the alps. No - not really! not that Wink Grin She's raising a legal challenge to Labour for breaching the Equality Act. Letters sent.

I hate twatty trolls too - but to leave them unanswered could be interpreted as acquiescence.

Terftastic · 07/03/2018 00:10

"Jennifer James you are history,"
