Women and crime statistics - increase in sex crimes?

Daily mail article:

www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-5465541/Record-number-women-convicted-sex-crimes-Britain.html

Some 142 women were guilty of sex offences in 2016 – almost double the 74 convicted two years earlier and more than triple the number at the start of the decade

There's a disgraceful rise in the number of adults working in schools convicted of abuse. I wonder whether there are any other reasons for this increase. Might those familiar with crime statistics have an idea?

What I know is that Feminists predicted that if governments began counting trangender identified males as females in crime statistics the female perp count would spike.
And so it has.

All of this does have an effect of obscuring and moving attention away from male pattern violence so that's a win for the patriarchy.

THIS.

TallulahWaitingInTheRain · 06/03/2018 18:53

We have various crimes of causing or inciting sex offences, but for a woman to be charged with rape is almost unheard of. As Hairy said upthread, she'd have to be involved to the extent of physically restraining the victim while the rape was taking place.

SnibbleAgain · 06/03/2018 18:53

There's no point in even guessing really.

If we don't know if it's men or women, we don't know if there's an actual increase and therefore if there's something "new" that needs addressing or not.

Might as well not bother with the stats.

SnibbleAgain · 06/03/2018 18:52

Women are usually charged with other offences here due to the whole rape-penis thing, AFAIK.

With the trans stuff it renders the whole thing meaningless. Are there women? Are they men? Is it a true increase or being inflated by TIMs? With no way to find out, the stats are meaningless.

All of this does have an effect of obscuring and moving attention away from male pattern violence so that's a win for the patriarchy.

whatishappeninginsalisbury · 06/03/2018 18:51

I've tried again. I was using the word penis. Maybe I'm not supposed to?

I have submitted yet another comment, without the word penis, instead male genitalia, so we shall see.

It's probably more that I have said the likely scenario here is that these 'women' are actually men. And that would be misgendering them, or something Hmm

thebewilderness · 06/03/2018 18:47

I am unsure of how it works in the UK but here in the US state I am in they often charge a woman with the same crime as the perp if she did not stop him from committing the rape of a minor.

Triliteration · 06/03/2018 18:46

Presumably it’s the word penis that’s a problem on the comments. Stating that only men can rape (and maybe link to the BBC fact sheet I posted above).

Secretsquirrel252 · 06/03/2018 18:42

The Daily Mail accepting trans women as women. Who would've thunk it?
At least we now know that women come above transsexuals on their hate list.

BertrandRussell · 06/03/2018 18:36

I am pretty sure that those figures are for England and Wales only. So the rapes at least would have been committed by a woman with a penis.

loveyouradvice · 06/03/2018 18:33

Whatishappening - how come your comments aren't showing? They seem to have shown everyone else's?????

Are you up for trying again???

SonicVersusGynaephobia · 06/03/2018 18:27

Can we do a freedom of information request?

whatishappeninginsalisbury · 06/03/2018 18:15

Rufus - the comments are insane aren't they?!

I've tried to leave several comments now, about how it's impossible to convict a 'women' of rape unless they have a penis....but they won't show them Angry

TallulahWaitingInTheRain · 06/03/2018 18:11

MOJ reports cover England and Wales. Scottish crime statistics are reported separately.

TheGoodEnoughWife · 06/03/2018 17:07

I have commented but if hasn't shown up yet. Yes they could all be Scotland but I doubt it. Doubt it enough to suggest otherwise in the comments ...

HairyBallTheorem · 06/03/2018 17:02

That's true. And it is possible that all 6 of them could have vaginas and have been convicted under common purpose (holding the victim down while their male accomplice penetrated them). But it's very, very unlikely.

Incidentally, the 2009 Scottish act (link here) includes surgically constructed penises so would encompass rape by a transman, but still does not include penetration by objects. So if all 6 were Scots and born female, that would be a hell of a lot of transmen in Scotland committing rape, which is also pretty unlikely.

Thanks ... so glad there are better informed women on here than me.... and ready to hopefully inspire more women to be on the trans-journey I have been on.....thanks to all of you in just a few weeks!

HairyBallTheorem · 06/03/2018 16:52

I do think there is a problem with under-reporting of sexual offences by women - but I don't think this sudden jump is entirely down to more reporting. In fact because of the inclusion of the 6 rapes, we know the sudden jump isn't entirely down to more reporting.

As well as all the ladies with penises I suspect on general the reporting to sex crimes has risen.

HairyBallTheorem · 06/03/2018 16:36

love we're in the UK. Someone upthread has already posted the precise legal definition of rape in the UK, under the 2003 sexual offences act. Barring a tiny number of women convicted under "common purpose" (e.g. holding the victim down while a man penetrates her), you cannot be convicted of rape in the UK unless you have a penis.

Davina Ayrton, Paris Green, Jessica Winfield... all men.

Waddlelikeapenguin · 06/03/2018 16:34

loveyouradvice that's not uk law
Search for "uk law rape definition"
Penis required.
