Blimey Jennifer's fund has gone up about 1,000 since yesterday!

One person gave £500.

I guess that is a kind of barometer of how women feel.

Fuck you, Labour.

SeniorRita · 06/03/2018 09:55

I've been Labour since birth and a member for 35 years.

I always thought the £3 leader vote thing was a nonsensical idea and, it seem to me, this is what got Momentum started.

I don't want to be a TERF. I am a feminist, but I don't need to be 'radical'. And, until quite recently, like most people, I was 'live and let live' about transwomen, when we had actual processes. But now, if any old Tom, DICK, or Harry can say "hey, I'm a woman", especially because it means they get on an AWS, then I'm out.

I've been pretty/very close to cancelling membership anyway due to Momentum (I don't disagree with all their ideas, I abhor their methods and the way that, if you ever question them, you get called a 'red Tory').

Does anyone know if Harriet Harman has made any comment on this - as she was the instigator of the Equality Act?

Oh, btw, I am in HR and I've been vaguely wondering how this will affect Gender Pay Gap Reporting. 1) the gap will close as it's men insisting on being called women who are shoved into the women's category and then they can say 'hey, look, there's no gap', and 2) why is it Gender Pay Gap, and not Sex Pay gap?

"I see this as part of a continuing campaign to destroy the Left"

I think you are in denial. This is coming from the left.

xxmarksthespot · 06/03/2018 09:18

"BYE then Labour. I will most likely spoil the ballot at the next GE. All the political parties are a shower of shit. "

I have voted in every single general election since being 18. This will be the first when it looks like there will be no-one to vote for, and the first spoilt ballot for me too.

woman11017 · 06/03/2018 08:25

I see this as part of a continuing campaign to destroy the Left
tanith I am sure you are right. Timing of this attack is interesting too.

Writersblock2 · 06/03/2018 07:53

I will be donating to the fund over the next few days. So fed up of this. We need to do something right now!

Tanith · 06/03/2018 07:52

I see this as part of a continuing campaign to destroy the Left. It’s come from the aggressive alt-right tactics of Milo et al in the States. That’s why they couldn’t give a stuff about trans rights or women’s rights: their ultimate goal is to wreck all the work that the Left have done in past years.

A few years ago, Ed Milliband made it possible for anyone to join the Labour party. This is the result. Thousands of right wingers joined, some for a laugh, some with an agenda. A hard right Tory councillor in my area was boasting how he’d done it: if the Conservatives had any integrity, they’d have expelled him and others. The fact that they did not speaks volumes.

If you let them bully you out, they’ve won. They’ve destroyed Labour and they’ve made you politically homeless. Much better to stay and fight, surely.

PencilsInSpace · 06/03/2018 07:46

Thanks for the update Jennifer. This is not legal, is it? At least not for AWS.

TheBadgersMadeMeDoIt · 06/03/2018 07:44

Someone just donated £500. Wow. Mazin.

Wonder if it was Graham Linehan? He's been speaking out on Twitter against the bullying and online abuse of feminists by TRAs (god love him) and is getting a hammering for it.

Lots of talk on Twitter about women leaving the Labour Party. They're calling it #XXit. Grin

AnachronisticCorpse · 06/03/2018 07:04

Can someone PLEASE start a new party? One that is by women, for women and centres women in their politics? I would but I’m not a politician, just a loud mouthed angry woman who’s suddenly politically homeless, and I wouldn’t know where to start.

IndominusRex · 06/03/2018 07:02

I will vote for whoever stands up against this madness. I am now a single issue voter.

DeloresJaneUmbridge · 06/03/2018 07:00

Suspect I will be banned by Twitter later today given my response there to this.

Who the hell do I vote for in future?

I won't vote Tory as I don't agree with their policies. Labour was my natural home but that's now gone as I won't vote for a party who does this.

terfing · 06/03/2018 05:40

Thanks for the update @JenniferJames Smile

I'm strangely intrigued to see how this pans out...

TERFousBreakdown · 06/03/2018 05:33

@flintyminty, I actually prefer your approach to mine.

As a political pessimist (which, in all fairness, made me the sole person among my friends to predict both Brexit and Trump - so yay for pessimism as a forecasting model!) I'm operating under the assumption that we couldn't possibly manage to get more than maybe the odd candidate elected. So the goal has got to make them listen instead.

Your suggestion actually does this as well as mine whilst allowing for a much more focussed effort.

I like this. Vote gender critical or spoil.

MrPan · 06/03/2018 04:50

This is only part of the story. The reactions in Twitter at least from women members is that this is wonderful and they do not feel as if they will be wiped out nor are being ignored.

Unless one wished to assert they are stupid or suffering from false consciousness women appear to be failing themselves.

JenniferJames · 06/03/2018 02:37

Someone just donated £500. Wow. Mazin.

JenniferJames · 06/03/2018 02:05

Helena no! How many times... lol

JenniferJames · 06/03/2018 02:04

Hey all,

The party's Head of Legal will get a letter tomorrow from the crowdfunder's lawyers, demanding a clear outline of policy on self-id... being redrafted and finalised now, in the early hours...

Whoever has written that allegedly leaked statement (Dawn Butler?) is essentially saying the party can get ahead of the law. It is a confused statement from a confused Women and Equaliies Department.

I do not believe there is one person in Dawn's department who has understood the arguments, considered the legal aspects or given the facts any critical thought. A consultation on self-id was DEFINITELY ordered by LOTO office... that I can tell you. But what the hell has happened to it? The Women and Equalities dep't has stopped answering our emails in the last week. Very strange...

Anyway, whoever is deciding this is very much mistaken, the party can't flout the law.

It may not seem it from the outside but I guarantee the tide is turning in our favour... for a number of reasons, political dynamics, union input, not least of all the secret squirrel beardy bro Momentum careerists who have been showing true colours. Bros don't care about trans rights... they just want to use trans ppl as a human shield for sexism and abuse cos we won't do as they say.

Last time there was a statement confirming our position which was swiftly taken down after a TRA backlash.. then the next statement didn't really say much. We may get more of a feel tomorrow morning, these committees usually leak. In reality it doesn't matter if the statement is pro self-id or the NEC approves it. Because the party cannot get ahead of the law. That's what the crowdfunder was always for and the legal team are on the case.

There's a debate happening, in the main thanks to the activism of so many of you on Mumsnet. Victoria Derbyshire programme showed how calm, polite and reasonable yet ASSERTIVE the women arguing the case are. That female socialisation thing has been proper shaken off. So impressed by Pilgrim, Dr Nic, and the others, one of whom I saw on the other thread (Cockapoo?) wow.. so powerful and moving. Took some guts that did.

XXHelenaXX · 06/03/2018 00:39

seniorita the crowdfunder is here www.gofundme.com/fighting-for-female-representatives

XXHelenaXX · 06/03/2018 00:37

we now have a hashtag

Labour has failed women.
UpstartCrow · 06/03/2018 00:35

As far as I'm concerned the Tories have wrecked the UK.

This is the most divisive govt I've lived under. They've divided people over 5 separate issues; austerity, their treatment of disabled people, the NHS selloff, Brexit and now self ID.
There is absolutely no way I'm going to even pretend to support them.

The Greens have apparently been taken over by their own version of Bromentum.
WEP seem to care more about being seen as cool wives than they do about supporting women.
UKIP seem to have absorbed the BNP.

Labour had the absolute best chance of winning the next election -until they decided to use the same tactics and policies as the Tories.
Whats needed is a radical change in thinking, not more of the same.

WorkingItOutAsIGo · 06/03/2018 00:30

Shotsfired- I wrote to my local conservative councillors saying exactly this, after I missed them when they canvassed my street. I explained I was a lifelong Labour voter, no longer able to vote Labour because of its support for self Id. Their response to my opening - silence.

I feel disenfranchised and bloody furious tonight. My poor DH and DS have had to listen to me ranting and have promised to be completely GC at their work and school.

buckbeak · 06/03/2018 00:17

@XXHelenaXX just tweeted it Grin

ShotsFired · 06/03/2018 00:17

@UpstartCrow yes the Conservative started it, but they have gone veeeery quiet now and I think they're on the brink of canning it - let's face it, Corbyn has hitched his wagon to the trans cause now so they can't suddenly go trailing after him.

And you don't necessarily have to actually vote for them on polling day - my idea can be used as a very visible shot across the bows with side benefits as mentioned. Tbh though, even at their worst they're still not as bad as what Labour are doing now, if the leaked confirmation re AWS by the NEC is correct.

XXHelenaXX · 06/03/2018 00:03

I have made a meme that we can put on our status, pin to the top of our Twitter, post and tweet widely, use as a header or page header, to show what we think. Let this one go viral like JeSuisCharlie or #metoo. Let's show the LP what we think!

Labour has failed women.
