Labour has failed women.

I've just started a thread about this, but sharing here in case anyone misses it:

I am passing on an action started by @mayday4women on Twitter; they aren't on Mumsnet so they said I could post here for them.

Basically they are getting a lot of women contacting them saying they are cancelling their Labour memberships due to the decision by Labour's NEC to essentially take on self ID as party policy in every area, including re AWS. And they think it'd be a more powerful statement if women did it en masse together on International Women's Day, which is the 8th March (Thursday).

The idea is to let Labour see how important this is to women, and how badly they are letting women down. Everyone can always reinstate their memberships down the line, but this is a way to be seen and heard, and to make a statement. I'm not a member of any political party myself right now, but as I say I am passing this on and doing all I can to support my sisters in the Labour Party.

My Twitter line is increasingly populated by the kool aid inclusive polite women. It's more males who are kicking a fuss.

I don't know what PIE is and I didn't suggest she would support women, I just wondered if she had made any public comment as she was the main driver behind the Equality Act.

Totally agree. The quickest way to embed these attitudes for a generation in Labour is to lie to yourself that they are due to some sort of right-wing conspiracy or infiltration. Absolute bollocks. There has always been a rich seam of misogyny on the left (as on the right) - look at how hard women had to push to get unions to take pay equality seriously, for example - but the now-despised neoliberals of New Labour did at least pay lip service to sex equality. Now that has been swept away and we're back to the good, old-fashioned sexism of the 70s - the Corbyn heyday - blended with the new misogyny of Big Tech, Bromentum and social media.

I'm not a labour voter but I support you all in this. The Tories started all this with their ID nonsense. What can I do to make the point clear that women won't put up with this any more?

If they had a plan in place to help transmen advance in the Labour Party with the same speed as transwomen then that would be something at least, but of course they don't. Transmen don't exist for the Labour Party.

They have demonstrated that they only care about the right sort of transgender people. Men.

Thank you for letting me know, disappointing. I do get the feeling she is just worn out with Labour now, understandably.

I happen to know a few senior Labour people (a couple of Lords, a couple on the shadow cabinet), I don't know HH but I know someone who knows her well. I might Tweet her and ask her opinion.

I'm not a Tory, but I think the Tories could clean-up here by coming out against this policy and his mopping up some of the politically homeless. Let's face it, most Tories will be against self-id, so I doubt they'll lose any members.

Yup they have totally failed women. They haven't got a) the brains or b) the guts or c) the slightest desire to show solidarity with women to adhere to the basic truth that woman = adult human female.

SeniorRita HH is my MP. I emailed her before Christmas with my concerns about self ID etc etc. I got the automated 'thanks for your email' response (so I know it was received). Still waiting for any actual response 10 weeks on.

So whatever her views actually are, she's keeping them to herself as far as her constituents are concerned.
