What on earth is going to happen to women?

I’m actually really worried. In the past couple of weeks I’ve seen Theresa May’s speech on how being transgender is not an illness, on how they will be given equal rights including access to vinerable women’s spaces. I’ve seen labour following suit, criticising Margaret Thatchers speech about homosexuality and likening it to the transgender movement, saying they won’t get it wrong. It’s not the same at all! What is going to happen to women in all this? It seems their rights will be pushed to one side and I’m actually rather worried. Can enough of us stand up to be heard?

Hm all very twisted and strange here. I will address the original question and rewire my answer accordingly to become more pleasing.
'What on earth is going to happen to women?' We will lose all rights that have been gained over the past century and return to being slaves to men in all aspects. In summary, the inferior sex who are no longer allowed to become Vice Chancellors or successful business women.

I know you think you are being really right on, but there will be no women on boards, apart from the ones who are men as they once ticked a box that said they identified as women, so they HAVE a gender balance of 50% so no problem.

There will be no funding for girls sports or activities, as the boys identifying as girls, need to be centred as they are subject to 'so much more abuse than girls' and they need the support, so the girls just will not get the funding. And yet, on paper, the support looks as if it is going to girls.

There will be no women who will call up women's charities, for support, as there will be a man called Hilary answering the phone, and offering support solely to women will be transphobic. These charities are already changing their policies, right now. Before the change to the law is even in place. Weird how it is the only law that people are willing to implement before it is even put before parliament, don't you think?

Everyone: 'Women - you are as evil as men, see - loads of you are rapists'.
Women: 'Those are men, not women'
Everyone: 'Bigots and transphobes, transwomen are women, don't be stupid. Why are you defending rapists now?
Women: Huh?

I mean, do you honestly think that the likes of Greer, Bindel, Bellos, and all other women screaming out that this is wrong, have just simultaneously turned into bigots overnight?

You will have to try harder.

Focus on that last bit about Mermaids.... it is probably going to be the reason my DSis leaves teaching! The 'story telling; and gender education sessions Mermaids are already providing to our youngest children is unquestionable, unassailable and very, very scary!

Men are naturally stronger than women in some way, so in those fields women will always be met with challenge from the overinflated neanderthal male ego. It's just nature and some things can't be changed, it's how we deal with them.

Under the new self id law you wouldn't be able to say any of this.

It is a transphobic comment.

It's transphobic because

a) you are making a distinction between men and women based on biology and not how a person feels - that's reductive.

Because, under the new law, a man isn't a person with greater strength in any area, a penis and testicles, etc, that will just be the body style that that particular person was born into.

And

b) you are asserting that 'we' will have to deal with 'them' which, not only distinguishes by biology, but denies your cis-privilege - which means that you are ignoring the privilege you have as a person whose internal gender aligns with your body style. E.g. you are a woman in a female style body rather than suffering as a woman born in a male style body.

For clarification:

There will be 2 body styles -

'male' - with eg penis, testicles, testosterone, greater physical strength, who are in charge and have poor impulse control around the 'female' body styled people.

and

'female' - with womb, ovaries, mentrual cycles, breastfeeding needs, less physical strength, who are predisposed to caring responsibilities and domestic chores who will acquiesce to the male body styled people.

Whereas women/girls:

Are sexy; like pink; like glitter; have long hair; wear make up; wear dresses; drink pretty drinks; play with dolls; paint their nails; bake cakes; flutter their eyelashes; enjoy being viewed sexually by men; simper and look to be rescued... (eg stereotypically female characteristics)

And men/boys:

Don't like pink; like blue; have short hair; don't wear make up; don't grow or paint their nails; drink lager/beer; climb trees; play rugby... (eg stereotypically male characteristics).

If a person displays 'woman/girl' characteristics, they are a woman/girl regardless of the body style they inhabit.

If a person displays man/boy characteristics, they are a man/boy regardless of their body style.

If they display characteristics from both categories in different contexts then they will be gender fluid (neither a boy/man nor a woman/girl).

This might sound like utter nonsense to you but that is the new status quo that the TRAs are campaigning for. Women are already losing their jobs/positions for questioning this or asking for clarification about how it will work in specific contexts. Organisations such as Mermaids are already issuing guidance materials for schools based on this model and, I believe, already being bought in to deliver training for staff based upon this model.

labourlist.org/2017/08/owen-jones-to-team-up-with-momentum-in-push-to-unseat-tories/

Owen Jones is joining forces with pro-Corbyn campaigning group Momentum in a push to seize the seats of several current and former Tory cabinet ministers.

The new Unseat campaign will target Boris Johnson, Amber Rudd, Justine Greening and Phillip Davies, all of whom saw their majorities slashed in the general election. Another MP, Stephen Crabb, who has been linked to an organisation which claims that homosexuality and bisexuality can be “cured”, will also face Momentum’s efforts on the doorstep.

Another one willing to help!

Cuntysnark · 05/03/2018 06:06

I’m another one who will do anything to help.

thebewilderness · 05/03/2018 04:12

I think both Datun and Guardian Lion wrote something up. I am sure they will be glad to share.

FfsFrieda · 05/03/2018 03:27

Would it be a good idea to get together and get some key facts/concerns up on a poster that we could all print off and start putting in all women’s toilets, changing rooms etc?

FfsFrieda · 05/03/2018 03:25

I don’t really want to post my location but I’m in a marginal seat and willing to help out any way I can.

Elletorro · 05/03/2018 00:05

Where are the marginals? We start with 1 and put posters in every women’s toilets. Hand out flyers at school drop off. Old school tactics. Doorstep. I would travel anywhere.

OlennasWimple · 05/03/2018 00:05

Women in sport and prisons will have a hard time of it for a few years until the world sees sense

Things will have to get much worse before we reach that point: sports bodies in particular still seem to be on the "brave and inspiring TIM" bit of the change curve, not hurtling along the "WTF" peak trajectory.

I genuinely think that it will take a fatality (or a few) to get people to wake up and appreciate the horror of what they have done in the name of supposed progress

Waddlelikeapenguin · 04/03/2018 23:51

There's a quote from West Wing going round my head reading this (brilliant) thread.
"The women's vote isnt just half your constituency. It's the entire margin of victory."

2rebecca · 04/03/2018 23:50

I don't think it will be that bad. Most folk in the UK are sensible and here in Scotland transexuals are still an exotic breed who I don't think are going to take over the world any time soon. Women in sport and prisons will have a hard time of it for a few years until the world sees sense . I do think our views will prevail, but I'm an optimist.
I do think the BBC and the media can be persuaded.

Truscum · 04/03/2018 23:33

I figure it’s like a domino effect.

Once you’ve peaked it’s almost impossible to keep quiet about it, and the outrage only ever builds up.

Truscum · 04/03/2018 23:31

I do think being very vocal about it in real life is very effective as something you can do daily to feel like you’re helping. Obviously only if you feel safe to do so.

This last month alone I’ve peak transed a doctor, two more colleagues and a variety of far flung family members (weddings are perfect 😂)

You can see the instant it hits. The dawning of ‘What the fuck?! This is really happening?’

And you know you’ve got a new ally when they start gaping at their phone after pulling it out for a quick google to see if what you are saying is really true.

Boxesandbuttons · 04/03/2018 23:26

The people going to visit their MP is definitely going to help. Do this if you haven't already. Explain your concerns about safeguarding, the equality act and subjective belief as law. If you have felt scared or threatened about speaking up, say so. Also make clear how much this will impact your vote and that you are telling EVERYONE.

UpstartCrow · 04/03/2018 23:24

Meanwhile I hear the chocolate ration has been increased to 30 grams a week!

Datun · 04/03/2018 23:24

I'm in.

BarrackerBarmer · 04/03/2018 23:21

dozens of existing secret social media groups?

anonymous twitter networks?

We're already pretty good at secret networking.

The fools have already driven us underground and made us adept at organising secretly. Dopey buggers.

Datun · 04/03/2018 23:21

BarrackerBarmer

Haha!

But we'll have to find women living in those constituencies, won't we? You'll have to talk me through this, I don't do politics very well.

Datun · 04/03/2018 23:20

RavenBrow

Yes, men are stronger than women. They know it and we know it.

They are constantly telling us. Rape, porn, prostitution, domestic violence, sexual assault, sexual harassment.

But a 19-year-old boy didn't get to be women's officer because he beat up a woman. He doesn't need to.

The inherent dominance is a result of everyone knowing that men can whup women.

Men are socialised from the minute they are born to feel entitled to things that aren't theirs.

And women are socialised to be nice about it.

But none of that would work without the inherent power dynamic based on strength. We'd just tell them to fuck off.

But women aren't listened to. That's not because they are inherently less interesting or not informed!

It's because men consider themselves, and each other, more important and consider women to be lesser than. They couldn't enforce that if they were half our size and a third of our strength.

BarrackerBarmer · 04/03/2018 23:19

12 million unique users a month?

Grin
Datun · 04/03/2018 23:13

I think we should negotiate upfront. Very earnestly. No threats. It just creates intransigence.

How do we get to the women?
