Why are more women not worried about impact of transactivism?

It is largely thanks to MN that I have been made aware of the gender identification bill and the potential impact of it.

I have been reading more and trying to be better informed.

In some of articles I have read I have noticed the category of 'woman' divided into women and ciswomen. I find it very unsettling that I would be defined as the latter, as opposed to just as a woman.

When I raise this issue with my friends, they are largely unconcerned.

Why are not more women worried right now?

salmon 'grooming' has a broader meaning than just the idea of paedophiles groming children for sex. You do understand that right? Becaise the only.person who has brought that up is you.

It's about people with a vested interest identifying and exploiting a vulnerable individual for their own ends.

It can be seen in any kind of ideological radicalisaton.

terryleather · 04/03/2018 10:07

Pretty sure I'm not stronger than these TIMs...

And you are foolish if you think that a transperson (male or female) is stronger than yourself.

Foolish?

You don't think men are stronger than women?

Dang.

MrsOvarall · 04/03/2018 09:42

GeekaMaxima

Reference to transubstantiation, I think. Or substitute any other sincerely held but non-objectively-provable religious belief.

ReluctantCamper · 04/03/2018 09:40

specifically about transubstantiation geekaMaxima

geekaMaxima · 04/03/2018 09:37

It's like arguing with a Roman Catholic.

Eh?

MrsOvarall · 04/03/2018 09:37

Good questions NannyOggs

NannyOggsKnickers · 04/03/2018 09:35

Also, which of these statements is true:

  1. exposing your gentials to someone else without their prior consent is sexual harrassment.
  2. Demanding that someone have sex with you, even though they don’t want to, is coercive rape.
  3. taking spaces designed for people of a specific sexuality and demanding they admit you is morally objectionable use of privilege.
  4. prentending that make bodies are female bodies with the same issues erases women’s biological needs and is medically dangerous to the men involved.
MrsOvarall · 04/03/2018 09:32

I firmly believe that many of you are wrong, as you do me

Fair enough. So why do you think we're wrong?

Where can we find the information to persuade us that women's boundaries are not being trampled? That the medicalisation of GNC children is harmless? That not a single predatory non trans man will use self ID to abuse women? That transwomen are actual natal women?

Serious questions.

Patodp · 04/03/2018 09:32

They are entirely dependent bullying terrorist tactics. Complete lack of respectful reason.

ReluctantCamper · 04/03/2018 09:28

You state that you believe gender critical posters are wrong salmonofwisdom, but you've yet to back that up with any evidence at all. It's like arguing with a Roman Catholic.

NannyOggsKnickers · 04/03/2018 09:27

salmon Until as recently as the beginning of last year I would have been firmly on your side. I read the trans threads and was appalled by the ‘right wing’ views and lack of tolerance.

And then I experienced all the trans issues brought up in this thread in real life. And I had my eyes opened to just how vulnerable young people are to manipulation on this issue.

Do you honestly believe that allowing people like Danielle Muscato into female only spaces is the right thing to do?

Do you honestly believe that teenager who are confused about their identity and sexuality should be encouraged to take life altering drugs and cut off healthy body parts?

Do you truly believe that women should be denied their right to single sex spaces?

Do you believe that women’s rights are less important than trans rights?

ReluctantCamper · 04/03/2018 09:27

salmonofwisdom, you have made incredibly offensive allegations about the gender critical users of Mumsnet. I assume you'll be posting either evidence to back up your claims or an apology?

JoyTheUnicorn · 04/03/2018 09:24

Mermaids (child trans charity) blatantly grooms children, and uses such emotive language and skewed suicide statistics that, alongside the fear of being called a bigot, people daren't question them when they do presentations in schools.
When the founder is a person who took her young son to Thailand to be castrated, you have to question why they are allowed in to schools at all.

Then you look at the school pack created by gendertrend (?) which gives real statistics about desisting and sensible advice to help support young people safely without going down a route of life changing hormones and/or surgery. Except this is information that is being called hate filled and transphobic, and dangerous to young people who are born in the wrong body.

What should be happening is critical, deep research into why there is such a rise, and how the vast majority desist by adulthood, except currently it won't happen because TRAs have somehow risen to a position where so many people are scared of contradicting them.

MorrisZapp · 04/03/2018 09:21

Saddest thing I saw last week was a picture of a pre transition Riley Dennis. He looked like a healthy, strong and wonderful young man.

My heart breaks for his mother.

Patodp · 04/03/2018 09:21

Do you believe it's possible to change sex, Salmon ?

TerfsUp · 04/03/2018 09:15

The ones I know can generally be divided into two groups:

(1) they aren't aware of the issue and therefore don't understand the enormity (yes, I know what enormity means and chose that word deliberately) of the issue; and

(2) they are more concerned with being 'woke' and social justice warriors than they are of thinking through the implications of TRA.

Njordsgrrrl · 04/03/2018 09:14

R.e paedophilia, it isn't mentioned much but have seen it on here before. It's a bit discomforting that a movement of grown men are so very keen to have a generation of people who have been given puberty blockers. They'll be overage but essentially children. Maybe I'm overthinking but it's... well it doesn't sit right really.

Xenophile · 04/03/2018 09:14

I'm not suggesting that you're lying about your beliefs, Salmon, I am saying that you're lying about your accusations. And you are.

grasspigeons · 04/03/2018 09:11

Actually I think this debate(?) shows something

one person has moved the discussion from 'why more women aren't worried about the impact' where lots of interesting points could have come up that might have helped get more people worried - to another thread with frustrated cis women saying 'but biology!'

I want to hear more about why the person above's daughter views her as a bigot, what are her beliefs?

salmonofwisdom · 04/03/2018 09:11

On the contrary I'm not being disingenuous at all. I firmly believe that many of you are wrong, as you do me.

birdsdestiny · 04/03/2018 09:04

Don't be ridiculous. My 13 year old son can beat me in an arm wrestle. It's not an idea of trans life, it's an understanding of biology. Woman saying no will keep happening. I know it makes people very cross but women having boundaries always has.

Xenophile · 04/03/2018 09:03

ALittleBitOfButter, Salmon is being disingenuous.

Just like the PP Twitter that just typed out a load of bollocks about men having uteruses endlessly yesterday, Salmon is hoping that if they post utter fabrications often enough, they will convince people that they're true.

ReluctantCamper · 04/03/2018 09:03

A man who identifies as a woman will certainly be physically stronger than me.

Therefore if they mean me no good I will be far less likely to be able to do anything about it.

As a man, while I'm sure as an individual they will be delightful, if we look at the statistics, they're far more likely to mean me harm than a woman, and that is how safeguarding works.

If you have children, what do you tell them to do if they get separated from you in the street? I tell mine to approach a 'mummy', because the likelihood is she will look after them.

MaisyPops · 04/03/2018 09:02

Online grooming of young people has already been bought up in this thread.
Because children who don't conform to gender stereotypes or might be struggling with their sexuality (e.g. a feminine gay boy / butch lesbian), can express how they are feeling and the TRA will essentially convince them that they aren't a gay boy who likes more feminine things, they are actually a heterosexual girl who is trans.

Riley Denis couldn't be a boy who likes dressing up and women because stereotypes say that's not attractive to women and stereotypes rule in TRA world. So Rilley pops a dress and eyeliner on and voila Riley is now a lesbian (even though Riley is a human male with a penis in a heterosexual relationshio with a girl).
