Why are more women not worried about impact of transactivism?

It is largely thanks to MN that I have been made aware of the gender identification bill and the potential impact of it.

I have been reading more and trying to be better informed.

In some of articles I have read I have noticed the category of 'woman' divided into women and ciswomen. I find it very unsettling that I would be defined as the latter, as opposed to just as a woman.

When I raise this issue with my friends, they are largely unconcerned.

Why are not more women worried right now?

I am not suggesting that individuals with AGP pose an increased risk to women.

I am. They do. AGP/cross dressing is the most common paraphilia among sex offenders. Half the trans-identifying men currently in prison are sex offenders.

They are an increased risk to women.

LangCleg · 04/03/2018 12:38

It's the same model of behaviour you see in CSE; are taught to look out for under the Prevent agenda and sees people join cults and gangs.

Yes, yes, a million times yes.

The trans agenda is chucking the entire body of safeguarding and child protection knowledge built up over seventy years straight under the proverbial bus.

It's a cult and it's dangerous and it's hijacked our institutions.

It's not really relevant that it's about gender. It could be about anything. Its behaviour is the danger. You cannot ride roughshod over all these decades of knowledge and practice and not come out the other end with a scandal of epic proportions.

It's horrendous, waiting for the inevitable to happen.

Scrambledogg · 04/03/2018 12:36

Lots of interesting replies. I still find it baffling though that I can only find this subject discussed so critically online. Lots of my feminist friends IRL seem to back away from the issue. Reading through all of these replies has galvanised me to speak out more vigorously.

And that is an article from 2013. I will have to try find the more recent examples from that twitter collation.

ladywithnoname · 04/03/2018 12:30

Sanders Apologies I can't verify these statistics (which seem improbably high), but I was looking for a list I had seen on twitter with examples of trans women sex offences (committed most likely by persons with AGP). And this article /the source article contain a list of over 250 media published incidents which is hard to ignore. I am not suggesting that individuals with AGP pose an increased risk to women.
I believe the offending rated of transwomen is on par with those of natal men.So I am not saying that they offend more. But I believe a higher proportion of their crimes are sex offences.

I feel sad for some of these men with their fetish. That's female socialisation for you though.

vaginafetishist · 04/03/2018 12:26

There was a song 'Girls like us' that was popular in lesbian nightclubs back in the day. How times have changed

vaginafetishist · 04/03/2018 12:25

Anyone who wonders about AGP needs to look at twitter #girlslikeus for an eye opening and eye watering look at what these self identified 'women' think of us.

TheGoldenBough · 04/03/2018 12:19

The bottom line for me is that some people are identifying confused, vulnerable, non conformist, socially awkward and isolated people and telling them they can make it better. They isolate them further from the people who care about them by saying they don't understand them and welcoming them into a supportive 'family' where they feel they have a place, where they feel cared for and where they feel they have an 'identity' by people who, ultimately, care about nothing other than achieving their own aims and furthering their own agenda. And then woe betide any of those who begin to doubt or to question or try to leave...

It's the same model of behaviour you see in CSE; are taught to look out for under the Prevent agenda and sees people join cults and gangs. It's no different.

The concern is not about transsexuals or people with gender dysphoria but it is about people who will seize an opportunity to exploit vulnerable people.

What Little Lebowski said.

Trans rights activists are aggressive in shutting down any dissent. Trying to push into law the erosion of women's rights and safe spaces. Trying to stick to the LGB movement as if it was the same when it isn't.

Posters on these boards have some slightly different views: I don't mind the transsexuals who have been using female toilets for ages, before this issue became an aggressive ideology.

I DO have an issue with trans activists using the Goebbels method of telling a lie often enough hoping it becomes true (such as 'transwomen are women/some women have penises/etc')
I DO have an issue with homophobic organisations like Mermaids advocating giving young kids puberty blocking drugs and hormones before they can actually decide whether they are gay/ lesbian/bi.
I DO have an issue with men identifying as women in female sport.

The solution would be to create a third space/ trans category.
I don't see why women should have to shut up and yet again be agreeable and accommodating. Try telling Muslim and Jewish orthodox women to stop being fussy and shut up about having penises in their safe spaces.

Sanderz · 04/03/2018 12:09

Sanderz Who has claimed there's an increased crime rate with AGP?

Oh sorry, I'd misunderstood. I thought the thing was people didn't mind sharing with old school transexuals but not the new sort because loads of them were AGP so not "safe" if that makes sense.

It's about the unwitting participation of everyone else.

That makes sense, thanks.

Datun · 04/03/2018 12:04

Autogynephilia is not a crime!

Grayson Perry is a self confessed autogynephile.

It's about the unwitting participation of everyone else. Usually women.

It's sexually arousing to be treated 'as a woman', personal pronouns, girly stuff, etc.

So a man with AGP might be talking to you about tights, for instance.

You are weighing up the pros and cons of shades from cafe latte to mocha and your preferred denier, and he is getting an erection.

Here is a thread from women who are married to AGP transwomen. At the coalface, as it were.

Patodp · 04/03/2018 12:00

what is Transgender ideology?

Transgender ideology wants to erase the meaning of the word "woman" as - adult human female, and replace it with - anyone who identifies as a woman. Which renders the word meaningless, subjective and baseless.

Transgender ideology wants to impose on homosexuals that their sexuality is not in fact based on same sex attraction but that they should be attracted to people who say they are the same sex as them when they aren't.

Transgender ideology scrutinises children who play with toys or wear clothes usually associated with the opposite sex, labelling them as "trans" and convincing them they need to change their names / pronouns / bodies. Just let kids be kids!

Transgender ideology recruits vulnerable young adults offering them an alter ego which will be better, more celebrated, thanks their true self. Promising changing sex will solve all their problems. It doesn't work.

Transgender ideology results in women having to compete against men in sports, women sharing intimate spaces within men, women sharing their pronouns with men, being told being a woman is nothing to do with their biology but is in fact because their ladybrains make them prefer pink and be crap at science. If a man prefers pink too, he is a woman just like you.

It's no wonder women don't like this much.

UpstartCrow · 04/03/2018 11:59

Sanderz Who has claimed there's an increased crime rate with AGP?

I do not consent to share safe spaces with men, especially not men that are acting out a fetish.

TIMS retain male patterns of criminality;
'' Female-to-males, but not male-to-females, had a higher risk for criminal convictions than their respective birth sex controls.''
journals.plos.org/plosone/article?id=10.1371/journal.pone.0016885

and a higher proportion of their crimes are sex offences
www.researchgate.net/publication/233070618_Where_the_Margins_Meet_A_Demographic_Assessment_of_Transgender_Inmates_in_Men%27s_Prisons

Many women want and expect women only spaces. Why isnt that enough for enough for us to be able to keep them?

LittleLebowski · 04/03/2018 11:55

I'm not too sure what this TRA aggressive activism you're talking about is. Can you provide examples?

Aggressive activism for me is transwomen demanding access to women only spaces because they feel like women, end-of.
I believe that women have a right to sex-segregated spaces. They have a right to undress, have medical services provided for them, play sport etc etc with other biological women only. They also have the right to say that transwomen are transwomen, not women. Because it is true.
Aggressive activism for me is also attempting to silence women's concerns by calling them bigots and transphobes. It is also aggressive to thump them (see Maria Miller at speaker's corner).

Ummm... so enlighten me then, what is trans ideology?
For me this is the thinking that permits all of the above, whilst closing down any debate with #nodebate.

Sanderz · 04/03/2018 11:39

Can someone point me to the research that links AGP individuals with increased risk to women please? I keep seeing autogynephilia mentioned and obviously it's a fetish but I can't find where it's linked to crime etc.

MaybeDoctor · 04/03/2018 11:36

I am out in the shires. The LGBT scene around here is almost nonexistent.

Shops still advertise for a ‘Saturday girl’!

I don’t think it is on people’s radar.

UpstartCrow · 04/03/2018 11:29

I dont think there is one simple answer.

  • many people still don't know there's an issue, or assume its not going to affect them, or have buried their heads in the sand and are hoping someone else will deal with it.
  • If it was really that bad surely Someone Else/They would have already put a stop to it?
  • Conditioning is effective, women want to be nice.
  • Its easier to go with the flow than stick your head above the parapet.
  • Admitting that many men really are indifferent to women, or actively despise us, is too much to deal with.
  • Its easier to let someone else make all the decisions. The upside is you can blame them when it goes tits up.
MrsOvarall · 04/03/2018 11:28

Angelic, in case it's not completely clear: nobody here thinks that gay people are more likely to be paedophiles than straight people. Because that is probably untrue, as you correctly say.

There is concern WRT self ID and it's implications for women and children. Dysphoric transsexual people are not really a source of concern here. We don't want any old man to be able to self ID as female. Trans or not. Neither are dysphoric transsexual people the ones leading the rush to remove single sex spaces and protections without women's consent. Those spaces and protections might not be important to you. Or me in some circumstances. However we don't get to remove other women's boundaries without their consent.

Online social contagion and the elevating of trans as a status is a real problem.

There are 2000 children a year showing up at gender clinics. 1900 of whom have nothing wrong with them. They are incredibly confused.

The term is ROGD which stands for rapid onset gender dysphoria.

Typically occurring at 14 or 15 years old, with no prior indication.

There is lot of information online. But here is a explanation of the four different types of gender dysphoria.

I think you might be confusing transsexuals with today's version of many trans-women.

Transsexuals are who we have been sharing our toilets with for years. No problem.

But most transwomen, certainly the ones campaigning, (not transsexuals, who they call Truscum) are heterosexual men, 80% of whom keep their genitalia. And have, in old money, a cross dressing fetish (autogynephilia).

Which has given rise to male lesbians, the complete denial of homosexuality, the lady dick or female penis and the aggression.

Men with gender dysphoria (who you say are born in the wrong body), are not the problem here.

Unfortunately, they are few and far between. And are just as opposed to the amendments to self identification as women are.

Njordsgrrrl · 04/03/2018 11:20

I would say the school / safeguarding / social services and alienating children from their parents if not "supportive" idea is pretty worrying. Is that not part of the agenda? I'd be delighted if I was wrong about that to be honest!

TallulahWaitingInTheRain · 04/03/2018 11:19

There's concern around some aspects of the trans agenda

  • Schools are being advised to withhold information from parents wrt trans identified children in contravention of established safeguarding practice
  • trans identified children are being advised to approach individuals (with no official role, accountability, drb checks etc) privately online, without the knowledge of their parents, in contravention of the most basic internet safety practices
  • arguments are being made which suggest that underage children are competent to make decisions about whether some very invasive things should happen to their bodies

We're worried that some of these suggestions might have the effect of facilitating or normalising paedophilic offending. Not that gay people are paedophiles.
