Barry's line - "We know what a lot of she says is entirely wrong but we still want her perspective."

"BUT YOU APPOINTED HER AS AN ADVISOR. IT'S A JOKE!"

"It's not really the actual Labour Party. It's just Dawn's thing."

"No it isn't!"

LangCleg · 28/02/2018 11:53

(Sorry. On Daily Politics.)

LangCleg · 28/02/2018 11:53

Oh my days!

Andrew Neill excoriating poor old Barry Gardiner about Bergdorf's appointment by Dawn Butler right now.

"But she is a product of middle class privilege who says a homeless man has white privilege. You're joking with this, aren't you?"

LadyScience · 28/02/2018 11:45

I’ve seen infertility mentioned a couple of times now as a helpful justification by TIMs that being a woman isn’t defined by having children/female reproductive anatomy.

I want to say for the record that I have never felt more fundamentally a women as during my ongoing battle with infertility.

OPKs. LH/FSH blood tests. Progesterone blood tests. Transvaginal scans. Ultrasounds of my ovaries. Pelvic MRIs. Hysteroscopy. Uterine biopsy. Fibroid removal. Endometriomas. Polyp removal. Positive pregnancy tests. Miscarriage. Oocyte simulations. Egg collections. IVF. Failed IVF. Complications after egg collection. Surgery to save my ovaries. AFC/AMH reducing. Post-miscarriage flooding during periods. An actual karyotype analysis which defines me as Normal Female, 46,XX.

How dare these people co-opt my experiences as an infertile woman to try to justify their aim of elimination of biology, of science, of all reason to further their own ends.

I am a woman. With two X chromosomes in my cells (non-gametes) and everything that entails. We have fought for medicine to recognise that female biology is different to men’s because of BIOLOGY, not because of how someone feels in lipstick and a dress.

Mouthandtrousersall · 28/02/2018 11:44

Is it pink or not.....read this at your peril...

www.susans.org/forums/index.php?topic=89325.0

Vaginal vestibule? Is that just by the front door?
No difference except for no uterus at the end?
It's like they are talking about car parts.

Mouthandtrousersall · 28/02/2018 11:36

FYI vaginas are indeed pinkish, as are most organs in our body, what with the blood circulating and all.

I would imagine Bergdorf's surgical wound is quite pink too.

HuckfromScandal · 28/02/2018 11:34

I’m just angry
Angry and disappointed

RedToothBrush · 28/02/2018 11:33

GSCE Media Studies taught me what a load of bollocks 'Women's' magazines were.

They RELY on stereotypes for profit.

Valentinesfart · 28/02/2018 11:28

I'd assumed most people realised The Onion was satirical not an instruction manual

"In the past, my relationships with cisgender actual women have been a valuable source of strength but now they've realised that a lot of trans rights activism is badly rebranded mens right activism and are rightly pissed off"

Fixed that for ya Munroe

YourVagesty · 28/02/2018 11:01

It's Juno Dawson all over again. This article made me so angry, I haven't bought Glamour since (and I used to enjoy it as mindless fluff):

www.glamourmagazine.co.uk/article/what-it-means-to-be-a-real-feminist

Note the 'real feminist'. Pfft.

We need to boycott every magazine/ newspaper that supports this insideous mysogyny dressed up as progress.

raspberrylipbalm · 28/02/2018 10:28

Not just mansplaining, but transplaining.

HandbagKrabby · 28/02/2018 10:14

I suppose womanface works well in glossy women’s magazines because their purpose is to sell you things to make you look a certain way and a tim will need to buy lots of those things if they have the intention in being able to ‘pass’. I’ve defo reached peak media aimed at women that solely trades in reductive stereotypes.

MadamMinacious · 28/02/2018 10:13

At 14 or so I became a feminist, at around 17 I realised that women's magazines were just vehicles of the patriarchy (I was slow to learn). I can't even stop buying them in protest, I stopped buying or reading them over 20 years ago (apart from when I had to write about them). They do little more than feed into insecurities and prescribe behaviour to women oh, and house a LOT of adverts. This shouldn't make me so angry as I KNOW what women's magazines are all about but it does and I think my anger would please Bergdorf no end but there you go, I still feel angry.

I'm just going to retire from the internet for a bit until I calm the fuck down or I will verbally maim someone who doesn't deserve it.

IcedPurple · 28/02/2018 09:36

Also, let's not forget that L'Oréal sacked Bergdorf because of his racism towards white people, not because of his misogyny. Which is ironic, given that the vast majority of people who purchase their products are women and girls.

Speedy85 · 28/02/2018 09:32

That article is infuriating.

Also, to clarify, whilst L’Oreal don’t animal test their complete products in the EU, they do:

  • buy ingredients which have been recently animal tested (more ethical companies won’t use products which have been tested after a fixed cut off date); and
  • test their products in China so that they can sell them there.

So I don’t buy them, no matter how much this person pisses me off.

IcedPurple · 28/02/2018 08:31

Men!

Is there anything they can't do better than women?

Including - it would seem - being a woman?

Apparently not.

AngryAttackKittens · 28/02/2018 08:26

Does Jack think that if she shouts about "vagina feminism" enough the TRAs will forget that she has one and treat her as an equal? Because they won't. And it's depressing to watch her trying to persuade them to.

CapnHaddock · 28/02/2018 08:24

Ironically, I was passed over for promotion in favour of a man because he may have children and so might I. The company saw that as me becoming a drain on resources while he would have a family to support.

Triliteration · 28/02/2018 08:23

I am BEYOND Peaking right now. And I dont understand how more women are not aware what is going on.

Speaking from personal experience, I’d say many women are probably peripherally aware, but haven’t realised the end game. I know when I saw Jenner and all the fuss, I thought wtf?? but then pushed it aside as it seemed just a sign of modern stupidity that would just pass. It annoyed me more when she got some woman of the year award, but again, it was only a vague blir on the radar.

It was only when I came here, then started to read more, that I discovered the GRA / self-ID dangers and all the nonsense that is being propagated that I realised it was a big deal.

So the more this information is out there, the more people will stop sleepwalking into it. I massively applaud WPUK and all the women who are putting their heads over the parapet. I find it odd that it’s still so niche, as it seems so massive to me.

RedToothBrush · 28/02/2018 08:17

Are men looked on with confusion for not having children? Are men looked on with pity for not being able to have children? Are they expected to have children?

CapnHaddock · 28/02/2018 08:15

I see Jack Monroe (waves) has been spouting nonsense on twitter about 'vagina feminism'. You can identify as what you like love - you're a woman.

RedToothBrush · 28/02/2018 07:36

Its not the ability to bear children. Its the social expectation to bear children.
