Twitter is the gift, to the rest of us. It tells us what is really going on in people's heads, it's like the mind-reading gift!

HelenaDove · 06/03/2018 01:45

Ah Grazia...................the gift that keeps on giving.

If you know there is something you tweeted in the past that you know to be offensive and you are remotely thinking about taking a public role, or a job sensitive to what you might have posted in the past on social media then, deleting it would be a wise move.

And you don't do that like Toby Young AFTER the fact, you do it, BEFORE you decide to make a name for yourself.

If you are making a name for yourself off the back of such comments then you absolutely should be hung out to dry for them.

Its not just that these people make the comments in the first place, its that they continue to have no shame nor responsibility for those messages which they have the ability to remove.

Wanderingwomb · 05/03/2018 09:57

I'm glad I grew up without my every fart needing documenting on line. But if Labour insist on hiring people whose usp is social media, then that person has to be accountable for their social media.

RedToothBrush · 05/03/2018 09:45

And Jared O'Mara.

How many more incidents do we need?

RedToothBrush · 05/03/2018 09:45

They still had credibility before this?

We've already had Brendan Cox and the dual standards.

What I get caught saying privately is in no way reflective of my views. I am just as insensitive, rude, sexist and homophobic now but I present it publicly in a different way by harping on about intersectionality so I look clever with no irony whatsoever.

John McDonnell hints party is reviewing choice of trans aide Munroe Bergdorf

John McDonnell, the shadow chancellor, has suggested that Labour is reviewing the appointment of a transgender model as an adviser to the party.

Munroe Bergdorf, 31, apologised after The Times reported that she had labelled a Twitter follower a “hairy barren lesbian” and boasted that she wanted to “gay bash” a television star.

Trans activist in homophobic slur. Who would be shocked at that.

Vetting is good Labour. It would have stopped the mess that is Jared O'Mara too.
Being sacked very publicly by L'Oreal, may have been a clue.

But oh they are trendy cool and representative.

Get rid. Know a liability when you see a liability. Also have a look at that women's office who is doing the same shit.

CapnHaddock · 03/03/2018 14:24

Just read an interview that said people mistook Bergdorf for a girl when he was young because of the way he walked and talked. And yet the same article starts talking about all the abuse he gets on the street for being trans. So when he was young and looked very much like a schoolboy, people thought he was female but now he's had surgery and taken hormones, people can tell he's male? Confused

Really is thick as mince

SophoclesTheFox · 03/03/2018 13:12

From the CelebSiren website linked above: "Her name before being a transgender was Ian"

Oh god, I am snorting with laughter at that.

Ian!

(really quite unfortunate way it's been phrased, too. I'm Terfy Terferson but even I wouldn't say "a transgender").

panjandrumpyjamas · 03/03/2018 12:36

haha guess the birthday?
28 27 in 2017 Me thinks someone is also transage.........

Oh, I just looked at MBs twitter, MB is 31! Google seems to have MBs age all over the place!

Thisusernamethingistricky · 03/03/2018 12:24

I'm just thinking about the whole asking for DMs in different contexts.

Like, if a gay man who was nearly 30 was asking kids who thought they might be gay to DM him so that he could offer them support, people would think that weird wouldn't they?

TERFclick · 03/03/2018 11:55

I do think this will bring a fall of Momentum and the Trans movement. Labour, Lib Fems, LGB and transsexuals now needs to rebuild.

LassWiADelicateAir · 03/03/2018 11:39

If Labour don't sack him now, they're fucked

Here is a selection of charming people welcomed back into the Labour Party. I hope Labour is unelectable.

It's frustrating that commenting on their poor and dangerous practice would be seen as accusing them of paedophilia, and transphobia. No, it's just intensely narcissistic to assume you know better than all child development professionals, trained children's workers and parents and that the boundaries don't apply to you.

Perhaps there is a form of development issue which sees boundaries as being there to be broken.

IcedPurple · 03/03/2018 10:33

Bergdorf seems like a malignant narcissist to me.

shedalight · 03/03/2018 10:29

It's unbelievable isn't is. All these decades of child abuse disasters, serious case reviews into child deaths nearly all commenting on failure to share information and then these groups come along (many funded by the DfE) and actively undermine safeguarding principles and nobody says a bloody word! They're not even 'secret' about it.

And it's not just once. Setting gender non conforming children aside from all children, treating them as more likely to be suicidal than all other children, ensuring that adults immediately 'give in' to their demands, adults making direct contact with children online - all in plain sight.

Sorry for the derail - it just makes me so mad that people just accept the grooming behaviour and techniques from these groups and individuals that would be completely unacceptable from any other organisation in the world!!

Italiangreyhound · 03/03/2018 10:06

Tallulah thank you, 'Overton window', widening my horizons.

LangCleg · 03/03/2018 10:04

Inviting children to make contact online with strangers is lesson one in the abuser's handbook.

Yes, exactly.

And at this point, it's no longer about gender. It doesn't matter what the motivation is - in this case, it's kids who question gender but it could be kids who are vulnerable about any other thing - safeguarding procedures for minors are there for a reason. We would red flag any stranger adult inviting private contacts with minors for any other reason - private contacts about gender-questioning is no different.

Thisusernamethingistricky · 03/03/2018 09:51

Here's an example from some GIREs online training where they advise a teacher to keep a disclosure from a 13 year old secret. Teachers are taught that you NEVER keep confidentiality like this - you don't know the context of a child's life, levels of distress / self harm and you always share with the pastoral / safeguarding lead. (hope the link works)

Yes, I'm a teacher and we are always told that not only must we inform the safeguarding lead of any disclose ASAP, we also make it clear to the child that we have to tell someone else and we cannot keep anything they tell us a secret.

The fact that this is not the same around trans issues is just weird.

AngryAttackKittens · 03/03/2018 09:47

There are very few circumstances where an adult trying to conceal information about a child from the child's parents isn't up to no good. Normally this is one of those things that's obvious to everyone, but somehow you say the magic word "gender" and all suspicion is meant to evaporate.

shedalight · 03/03/2018 09:42

There is a theme about disregarding child protection principles from transactivist organisations. They seem to be deliberately isolating children from all sources of support

And the arrogance of not having any sense of their total lack of qualification for offering help to psychologically vulnerable people.
