The Labour Party continues to troll women

The latest addition to a Labour LGBT+ advisory board has been announced. I think we safely say the party has made its position clear on trans issues

This time will be a GrinHmmShock to future generations and a BlushConfused to those who fell for it.

AngryAttackKittens · 27/02/2018 09:13

This really does come across as deliberate trolling, as in they've noticed how angry a lot of women are about the way they're handling trans issues and their response is a giant middle finger shoved in our faces.

nolurkynolighty · 27/02/2018 09:11

order agree it is like stockholm syndrome with a lot of women, myself too until relatively recently.

Geronimoleapinglizards · 27/02/2018 09:09

This is absolutely bizarre.

I can't fathom a political party wanting to associate themselves with someone so controversial. They are actually trolling. This feels like it can't be real.

LangCleg · 27/02/2018 09:07

I'm still not totally convinced that we're not all stuck in a Twilight Zone episode.

The husband was saying this the other day. What's the logical end point?

We all come to our senses. Phew. But it's not looking particularly likely any time soon!

We end up in some weird dystopia taken from YA fiction or sci fi and all the posh people are body-hacked Effie Trinkets from the Hunger Games or the Meths from Altered Carbon, while the rest of us just toil away in grimness. Er... oh dear.

The Chinese hurry up with their turn at world domination and we just do what they say.

Outcome uncertain.

SmurfOrTerf · 27/02/2018 09:04

I thought they had recently said that the youthquake didn't happen.
I refused to vote at the GE, I will not vote Labour whilst Corbyn is in charge.
A few people I know who voted Labour, as a last minute decision, one wanted the 30 hours a week childcare Labour was offering, and a few wealthy pensioners who didn't want to loose their winter heating allowance.

you'll do super good I think I'll save that one for when they come round canvassing even though it will sound bloody stupid coming from someone as old as me

AngryAttackKittens · 27/02/2018 09:02

Combined with that one where the horrible little boy kept turning people who made him angry by disagreeing with him into jack in the boxes and all the adults were tiptoeing around trying not to set him off.

LangCleg · 27/02/2018 09:00

Bergdorf's position on this doesn't mean they think every white person is bad or interfere with their willingness to engage with white people.

Bergdorf specifically said in that diatribe that a white rough sleeper was privileged over upper class black men such as Chiwetel Ejiofor.

This is such arrant nonsense that it renders everything else Bergdorf has to say about race suspect. There are plenty of excellent commentators on race who actually understand the power relations analysis required by intersectionality and who include class in their thinking so that it has some actual relation to the real world. I'd seek them out and listen to them instead. (Try Akala or Claire Heuchan.)

It's great to be willing to be challenged on one's unconscious racism. But there is no point listening to idiots who say offensive things about rough sleepers, women, and any other group whose disadvantage doesn't enable them personally to claim the "most oppressed" label.

AngryAttackKittens · 27/02/2018 09:00

It's quite the sight, watching the first hard left leader Labour has had since Michael Foot transforming the party into a bourgeois liberal outfit tailoring policies for the middle class student vote.

I'm still not totally convinced that we're not all stuck in a Twilight Zone episode. Maybe a follow up to the one where everyone had pig noses and the one exception was being shamed for her normal nose.

TallulahWaitingInTheRain · 27/02/2018 08:58

I thought Bergdorf's analysis of white privilege and societal racism was pretty much spot on.

But that just made their total failure to understand their own male privilege in the context of societal misogyny even more annoying

LangCleg · 27/02/2018 08:54

Munroe Bergdorf is an open MRA.

The Labour Party seems to be in the middle of a mass hallucination. Just as I think my gast can't be flabbered any further, they do something even more ridiculous.

LangCleg · 27/02/2018 08:53

Have they forgotten that people over 30 can vote? This whole desperately chasing the youth vote look is downright undignified on a man Corbyn's age.

Not only that but the psephology of the "youthquake" is looking distinctly shaky. Well, not even shaky. More imaginary.

It's quite the sight, watching the first hard left leader Labour has had since Michael Foot transforming the party into a bourgeois liberal outfit tailoring policies for the middle class student vote.

I should have seen the writing on the wall when the GE manifesto put 4x the cash into cancelling tuition fees than it did restoring the social security that has left hundreds of thousands of working class mothers without sufficient resource to adequately raise their children.

mirialis · 27/02/2018 08:52

SweetGrapes - I thought LM was saying that transmen had privilege over transwomen but it's very difficult to work out what's going on because I don't think LM is that clued up or bright. Watching LM on C4 news was one thing - very nervous, newly appointed, centre of attention both negative and positive... but having watched LM on other things I now just wonder what on earth LM is doing in a public role even if LM were Trans Youth Officer or some such.

OrderOnline · 27/02/2018 08:48

Boys corrupted by porn and power, enabled by Stockholm girls They won't win a GE. The woman and men will become brave at some point.

noraclavicle · 27/02/2018 08:44

Anyone still think JC’s going to agree to a webchat on Mumsnet?

AssignedPuuurfectAtBirth · 27/02/2018 08:44

Red
That's too small for me to read. Doi you have a link? Thanks

Wanderingwomb · 27/02/2018 08:32

I think this is interesting. When I first read Bergdorf's comments on the inherent racism of white people I disagreed. Then I stopped and thought about it and sat with the discomfort of being a white person reading that statement. And I got it. I think there is a truth to it that society could do with recognising. Bergdorf's position on this doesn't mean they think every white person is bad or interfere with their willingness to engage with white people. What I would like to challenge them and the labour party to do is to consider similarly the inherent misogyny in the class of men. To consider that our society as we know it has been built on the backs of women; many unpaid, unrepresented, not recorded by history. To acknowledge that is not to hate all men or to refuse to engage with them.

Thisusernamethingistricky · 27/02/2018 08:16

My first thought was that at least Munroe hasn't been given a woman's advisory role. But then again, this is the person who told women not to centre reproductive issues in the Women's March, so yeah, still a bellend. Ah well, the Labour Party gets their virtue cookie quota for the day.

SuburbanRhonda · 27/02/2018 08:12

The first thing I thought when I read that was "Lily doesn't know what 'mutually exclusive' means"

Yes, that’s what I took away from the exchange. That’s a pretty fundamental misunderstanding for a 20-year-old.

Mind you, when you read comments on the twitter thread in the OP such as “you’ll do amazing good” and “it’s super great”, perhaps we shouldn’t be surprised.

CertainHalfDesertedStreets · 27/02/2018 07:55

I don't think L knows what 'mutually exclusive' means.

QuentinSummers · 27/02/2018 07:55

I think Lily doesn't understand the conversation.

niceberg · 27/02/2018 07:54

Oh great. I see your point OP.

SweetGrapes · 27/02/2018 07:51

@RedToothbrush what is the last line? Trans male privilege?

Male privilege going across the trans boundary and men take it with them... and therefore their rights supercede? I don't have my glasses and can't read it very well - but it seems Lily is saying that. Am I wrong?

AngryAttackKittens · 27/02/2018 07:45

It's getting hard to tell whether Lily is feeling safe enough to get away with being more honest or whether he's just too stupid to understand what people are asking him.

Branleuse · 27/02/2018 07:45

@RedToothBrush is there a link to that where I can actually read it
