The latest addition to a Labour LGBT+ advisory board has been announced. I think we safely say the party has made its position clear on trans issues

Well, there’s no way they’ll win the next election with this malarkey, even if they did have coherent policies on anything at all.

The youth vote is fickle, and even when motivated can’t be relied upon to actually show up at the ballot box on Election Day. Labour is putting all its eggs in a very flimsy basket.

Year Pink Hoodie?

LangCleg · 27/02/2018 10:21

It's the Great Purge of the 21 Century.

Madigan's Year Zero!

Valentinesfart · 27/02/2018 10:19

It's not simply a matter of taking out the "not". Lm also responded to the incredulous post afterwards asking him to reiterate his position. Wouldn't make sense if hadn't got it wrong in the first place.

LangCleg · 27/02/2018 10:17

Wanderingwomb - the key thing about real intersectionality is that it's about power relations, institutions and inadequate legislation, and absolutely not about identity. Here's Crenshaw's original paper, Mapping the Margins. Well worth reading:

You'd think Lily would come up with a new excuse rather than using "someone edited that/made a fake account for me/dog ate my homework" every single time. Aren't people Lily's age supposed to be digital natives who understand how silly excuses like that look and how easy they are to disprove?

AssignedPuuurfectAtBirth · 27/02/2018 10:12

It's the Great Purge of the 21 Century.

Momentum ejecting all 'TERFs' and 'Centrists'

Looking at the Big Brother winner, this appointment and incidents like the HT story time. I think porn has messed with men big time, capitalism wrecked them in the end. I wonder if they have been programmed to get a hard on for a parody of woman and that's in part behind why they think a transwoman is a woman, the less porn soaked the man, the less he believes it.

RedToothBrush · 27/02/2018 10:09

If Madigan wants to debunk that, all Madigan has to say is that they recognise women's need to have spaces without willies on because of biology, religion and the mental health needs of vulnerable women.

Given that Madigan has already said that Muslim women must be 'educated' to accept willies, I don't think we'll get that somehow.

Madigan just doesn't like it being spelt out that they are a Men's Right Activist championing the expansion of where willies are allowed to go and its got fuck all to do with 'intersectional feminism'.

EmpressOfJurisfiction · 27/02/2018 10:06

But the role is to advise on issues affecting LGBT+, not women

LGBT+ nowadays translates into trans. It doesn't give a flying fuck about lesbians.

Collidascope · 27/02/2018 10:05

I see this appointment as such a wasted opportunity. They could have got in a trans man (heaven forbid a biological woman get the gig) or trans woman who is actually aware of their biology, of reality, of the tyranny of gender stereotypes. I absolutely believe that a man dressed in stereotypically feminine attire will get a harder time than a man who wears a suit and has short hair. I believe there is a need to change those attitudes. In different hands, the trans narrative could have been a stepping stone to rejecting gender roles. Instead it's become a faith movement that operates by shouting 'bigot' at anyone who doesn't convert.

DickTERFin · 27/02/2018 09:58

Madigan is claiming that those screenshots have been edited and originally said that women’s rights and trans rights were not mutually exclusive but the nasty terfs are trying to frame him.

I agree that he didn’t understand what the phrase meant initially but how embarrassing to have a major political party championing someone who is clearly as thick as mince just to curry favor with the youth vote.

Valentinesfart · 27/02/2018 09:57

LM really does have the confidence of a mediocre white man.

Honestly though the thing I get most upset is the fucking block button. It's pathetic for an elected member of a political party to be blocking people for disagreeing. He actually openly supports no platforming.

OrderOnline · 27/02/2018 09:48

A clean out of every politician that let this shit show happen, will be required, so society can say it can never happen again. If the adults don't step in, a different gang of toddlers will have a tantrum and kick the lot of em to Fuck.

OrderOnline · 27/02/2018 09:46

TallulahWaitingInTheRain

It could be.

For me, it's about the truth. I can see people telling lies to TIM's, kids, themselves and each other. I am mainly horrified, disgusted and a little amused at their behaviour.

nolurkynolighty · 27/02/2018 09:44

i sometimes feel like "woman" is viewed as a bucket into which one can chuck anything be it uninvited dicks or men who are not stereotypically male enough. sometimes the bucket is prized and prized buckets can feel quite good about that for a while. but a bucket is still a fucking bucket; a tool or receptacle, defined by its relationship to the men that use it.

TallulahWaitingInTheRain · 27/02/2018 09:34

Apparently the worst thing that can happen to a man under patriarchy is to lose his masculinity.

I think everyone (secretly) sees TIMs as being catastrophically wounded by their failure to live up to the ideals of manhood. That's why everyone's tiptoeing around them, worried they'll harm themselves and horrified by women who don't eagerly welcome them into a delusion that will make everything seem OK.

Feminists don't really get this because we never bought into the masculinity ideal in the first place so we can't understand why everyone's got themselves into such a flap over it. Could that be it?

Wanderingwomb · 27/02/2018 09:28

lang thanks for the info I had no idea they said that as well. I wonder what they would say about the abuse scandals in Newcastle and Rotherham etc.

Is there a credible theory that the different axes of oppression are in hierarchy? eg perhaps people would give more money to female rough sleepers (theoretically) because they find them less threatening, but that doesn't negate male privilege.

Well I guess it makes sense they are just appropriating a line of thought for their own self promotion. I will have a look at your recommendations. I think if this whole issue has done one thing for me it is to make me want to explore my own and society's unconscious biases. Actually another thing it has done is to make me aware of the fierce female intelligence to be found here. I had stupidly, (and with misogyny! ) assumed I would not be interested in a site called Mumsnet. How very wrong I was!

OrderOnline · 27/02/2018 09:26

No! the boys have Daddy issues and self hatred they project onto women, not Mummy issues. Power and control is young stuff, very immature, they need to grow up and stop having toddler tantrums. The adults need to stop being scared.

LangCleg · 27/02/2018 09:21

I've been trying to say this. Langcleg can I borrow your brain?

LOL! It's quite confused in here, I can tell you. But it's true - why on earth all the newspapers are still banging on about commies under the Corbyn bed when he's actually reshaping the party to be the best thing the middle classes have ever seen, I can't imagine. It's hard to manage to cut through the bullshit and actually see what's happening.

On the Bergdorf thing - I think Kittens is right. Labour is deliberately putting a great big middle finger in the faces of all the uppity witches women. That's one characteristic of the hard left the party is actually holding onto.

AssignedPuuurfectAtBirth · 27/02/2018 09:21

I know. What the fuck happened to the Labour Party being about trying to help poor people, working people?

Not middle class, white, women hating males with mummy issues

They have lost the fucking plot

AngryAttackKittens · 27/02/2018 09:19

I've been trying to explain this to DH (who's not British) and keep getting stuck on the "why would a 70 year old leftist pretend not to know what a woman is?" part. Obviously most of it is an attempt to win the right on student vote, but how can he bear to do it? Does he have no principles at all? Does the "this is fucking nonsense and I'm going to say so" tendency not kick in at some point?

OrderOnline · 27/02/2018 09:18

Yes little boys, you bullied your way into power and it's all yours, for now!

CertainHalfDesertedStreets · 27/02/2018 09:15

It's quite the sight, watching the first hard left leader Labour has had since Michael Foot transforming the party into a bourgeois liberal outfit tailoring policies for the middle class student vote.

^^this. This.

I've been trying to say this. Langcleg can I borrow your brain?
