The last few days, there have been several claims of misandry on Feminist Chat. Please post examples here using a link and screen shot.

Thank you.

I was on that thread, Larry, under another name. So I have read it, and more.

And no, just stating that you've proved it doesn't mean you've proved it. Not even to people struggling under the lack of objectivity caused by the ladybrain Grin

larrygrylls · 25/02/2018 13:36

Now here comes the ad hominem attack, so predictable...

SophoclesTheFox · 25/02/2018 13:36

I do find it quite entertainingly ironic in a mote-in-the-eye way that Larry is so keen to root out the misandry without taking as the starting point the possibility that doing so actually demonstrates the undercurrent of his own misogyny Grin

TellsEveryoneRealFacts · 25/02/2018 13:34

The OP asked people to post examples of misandry

Those threads are not about hating men, but about the actions of men against women inciting fear of hating men.

A reaction to men's actions, not an action against men.

larrygrylls · 25/02/2018 13:34

Sophocles,

First off, read through the entire thread, not just the op. Secondly I can never prove it in terms that are acceptable to you, any more than you can prove that the uk is sexist in terms that are acceptable to me.

You cannot get clean data on human behaviour and thought.

I have, however, produced evidence suggesting that the FWR boards are misandrist. Clearly people will draw their own conclusions which, given the bias, will say they are not (despite many actual posts describing hating men (the dictionary definition of misandry)).

UpstartCrow · 25/02/2018 13:32

That thread went;
I don't really want to feel like this. I have a son who I want to bring up/am bringing up to be a feminist but I'm worried about how my hateful feelings towards men are going to rub off on my dc.

I suppose I am asking if there is a way I can combat these feelings and start to feel more positively towards them.''*

Yes one abusive father and one entitled husband and a few other silly sexist men around me are seriously clouding my view. I don't really have good male friends to balance it out

We are reading the same threads and reaching a different conclusion.

*and avoid them

SophoclesTheFox · 25/02/2018 13:29

Start a thread on what? Confused

you've far from proved your case that you've found the misandry.

I ask again: what did the OP of the thread you cite do that was harmful to men, other than dislike them in her head?

larrygrylls · 25/02/2018 13:26

Sophocles,

Interesting point, maybe you should start a thread on it. The OP asked people to post examples of misandry. I did.

SophoclesTheFox · 25/02/2018 13:25

oh, you just want to explore the thoughtcrime, then Larry?

No actual real world effects. Just women thinking thoughts and having opinions and the dreadful oppression that results for men?

I think the practical application is where the damage of misogyny is done. Like Elizabeth I, I don't seek to make windows into men's souls, people can think what they like. But I see a lot of evidence of the harms of misogyny all around.

if misandry is equally damaging to men as misogyny is to women, then it would have to result in as many crimes wouldn't it? We must be doing something will all this man hating, surely?

Rufustherenegadereindeer1 · 25/02/2018 13:25

Thank you patodp

I'll have forgotten again by the time i need to type it again but i will try and remember

larrygrylls · 25/02/2018 13:21

Of course I can see why some women are misandrist in the same way as I can see why certain men become misogynistic; they have been badly treated by the opposite sex.

Justifying your misandry is not the same as denying it.

larrygrylls · 25/02/2018 13:19

Sophocles,

Misandry is hating men, it does not imply any actions that follow. Let’s not try to redefine the thread.

SophoclesTheFox · 25/02/2018 13:19

x-post. The second one is the one that my post is about.

SophoclesTheFox · 25/02/2018 13:18

The thread I recall is a different one than the one Larry has linked to.

larrygrylls · 25/02/2018 13:17

www.mumsnet.com/Talk/womens_rights/2685909-Im-starting-to-hate-men

That is the actual one. Not just the op’s Post but many of the replies.

UpstartCrow · 25/02/2018 13:15

Cross post. On the 'creeps thread' OP writes ''I have really been depressed about the variety of news this week, all about a preponderance of bad male behaviour that has been accepted and normalised. ''
and then gives a long list of situations that are familiar to many women.

You see that thread as an example of misandry. Can you see how women might have a different take on that?

OP posts:
SophoclesTheFox · 25/02/2018 13:14

I recall that thread.

The OP was distressed by her feelings.

She wanted to change them. They upset her. She hadn't harmed any man, in any way. She had not manifested her dislike of men in any other way than going out of her way to avoid them.

Not the same in content, meaning, application, real world effects or in any way, shape or form the same as the way that misogyny operates in the real world to harm and damage women.

She stayed away from men. The equivalent would have been if she decided to hurt men, rape them, make violent pornography about them, threaten men, or attempt to shut them out of public life. That's what would make misandry equivlant to misogyny.

But it's not. She didn't, and it's not.

UpstartCrow · 25/02/2018 13:13

larrygrylls I cant find that thread using advanced search.

The main ad hominem attacks are on anyone who does produce evidence.
I havent seen that happen. Its why I ask for evidence of the claim.

Equally a company is judged sexist if its overall culture and tone is sexist.
Why is that an unreasonable judgement? Surely companies that are not sexist don't permit a culture of sexism.

I cant find the thread you reference. the top result I get is 'a womans opinion is the miniskirt of the internet'.

OP posts:
larrygrylls · 25/02/2018 13:07

I did, search ‘hate men’ and the thread pops up.

BertrandRussell · 25/02/2018 13:05

“The main ad hominem attacks are on anyone who does produce evidence.”

But you promised you would...........

larrygrylls · 25/02/2018 13:02

The main ad hominem attacks are on anyone who does produce evidence.

Equally a company is judged sexist if its overall culture and tone is sexist. The accuser would not have to provide a tribunal with countless unequivocal and unarguable individual instances, merely to show a general culture of bias and discrimination.

There was a thread a while ago about how it is hard not to hate men. I am sure you remember it (or just search ‘hate men’ and it pops up). This is almost misandry by definition.

But no misandry on these boards, nothing to see, move on please....

BertrandRussell · 25/02/2018 12:35

I think that UpstartCrow, like many of us, is getting fed up of the “feminists are all man haters” “ I have had enough of all the misandrist comments on here” “I can’t be a feminist because feminists think all men are rapists” type comments, and has issued a challenge for the people who say things like this to actually put their evidence where their mouths are and provide some examples.

This has been done before. The response is either “There are so many, look for them yourself”, “There are lots but I can’t remember them””There are lots-I’ll be back soon with examples” or an ad hominem attack in the person asking.

TellsEveryoneRealFacts · 25/02/2018 12:33

'How am I expected to know what feminism is if you won't tell me'

feels a little like

'How am i expected to know what needs doing round the house if you won't tell me'.
