The last few days, there have been several claims of misandry on Feminist Chat. Please post examples here using a link and screen shot.

Thank you.

So make violence is women’s fault. On a thread looking for misandty, it’s clear that misogyny is alive and well!

Patodp · 25/02/2018 16:19

Childhood trauma, and given that women kill and hit more children than men do coupled with the fact that little boys are more likely to be physically disciplined than little girls

Where on earth has this come from?

Young boys and young girls are equally likely to suffer childhood trauma, resulting from abuse at the hands of adults. Adult Males being vastly more likely to inflict sexual abuse on children. Girls vastly more likely to experience sexual abuse.

However, it's only the males that end up committing violence at the rates observable.

CritEqual · 25/02/2018 16:12

What’s your explanation for the fact that men commit 90% of the violence?

Childhood trauma, and given that women kill and hit more children than men do coupled with the fact that little boys are more likely to be physically disciplined than little girls I think that sets up an extremely dysfunctional attitude towards women in these little boys minds as they grow into men.

I'd also point at the CDC figures for intimate partner violence within lesbian relationships places it at a significantly higher proportion than women in hetererosexual relationships. With gay men being the least likely. I'm not sure how lesbian violence can be men's fault.

Of course given that men have a 15-20% strength/size differential from women the damage they inflict will likely be more severe and more likely to be fatal. However I think the misandrist myth that men are responsible for all violence is innacurrate and dangerous.

What is shown is that often humans with a size/strength differential will abuse those smaller and weaker than they are, child abuse statistics reduce each given year as children get older and bigger. So a child is more likely to be murdered at 1yr old than 10yrs, and so on.

The good news is that we can track an overall reduction of human violence across the decades that correlates with the reduction of hitting children.

In the meantime I'm totally in favour of targeting men for anger management programs, as they are the ones more likely to able to inflict worse damage, with an eye to ensure the next generation are free from the blight of violence, but I don't think trying to blame it all on men will get us all the way there I'm afraid.

“I think any individual going about their lawful business without hurting or stealing from anyone else is entitled to not be on the receiving end of the seething resentment I spoke of earlier. Some men are shy and inarticulate forgive me if I feel disinclined to hate them“

Well, individual men going about their lawful business not hurting anyone don’t tend to be on the receiving end of seething resentment. And I don’t hate them ether. But if I was part of a group that committed 90% of violence, I would sure as hell want to do something about it. And however shy and inarticulate I was, I would still (for example) not join in with laughing at rape jokes, even if I was too scared to say anything. And I would also think about why I was scared of other men.

BertrandRussell · 25/02/2018 15:45

“I agree with you 100% on teaching their boys how to manage emotion and frustration, with the addendum they should be doing it for their girls also. We all paint our lives from the same palette of emotions after all“

What’s your explanation for the fact that men commit 90% of the violence?

LangCleg · 25/02/2018 15:42

seething resentment

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA.

I want lessons in Resentment Seething. It looks like a useful skill. At the very least, I want to learn how to make the steam coming out of my nose 24/7 (what with seething all this resentment an' all) show itself visibly in posts on Mumsnet.

There should be something like an interwebz DNA test that proves my Seething Resentment could only have come from one in a billion people on the planet. Like an individualised Seething Resentment fingerprint.

Then more people can come and shout LOOK! SEETHING RESENTMENT! PROOF POSITIVE! I TOLD YOU!

CritEqual · 25/02/2018 15:16

You do realise you are asking for a literal Patriarchy there Bertrand? I think any individual going about their lawful business without hurting or stealing from anyone else is entitled to not be on the receiving end of the seething resentment I spoke of earlier. Some men are shy and inarticulate forgive me if I feel disinclined to hate them.

I agree with you 100% on teaching their boys how to manage emotion and frustration, with the addendum they should be doing it for their girls also. We all paint our lives from the same palette of emotions after all.

LastGirlOnTheLeft · 25/02/2018 15:10

If women were killing and abusing men at the same rate men were doing it to women, you can bet your life I would stand up and speak out....NOT IN MY NAME! Men seem to prefer to stay silent and do nothing in case they get attacked too. Cowards, are they?

BertrandRussell · 25/02/2018 15:05

“There is some misandry right there, the whole notion that non-raping, non-abusing, non-assaulting and non-murdering men should be throwing themselves in the path of any harm that might befall a woman. Are these men so fundementally disposable and worthless that they should expect seething resentment from women if they don't perform their manly duties?”

I don’t expect men to throw themselves physically into the path of any harm that might befall women. I DO expect them to speak up about male violence to other men and make it clear they find it unacceptable. I expect them to educate their boys in how to manage emotion and frustration. I expect them to speak out when other men make rape jokes. I expect them them to reject porn and prostitution. I expect them to DO SOMETHING!!!

MephistophelesApprentice · 25/02/2018 14:59

I don't know if it's misandry, per se, but I donthink the near universal belief that men (as a class) should be obligated to act as protectors and enforcers in the interests of women (as a class) is ironically oppressive.

CritEqual · 25/02/2018 14:55

Why do men think they can stand back and watch while men rape, abuse, assault and murder women and yet have women harbour no feelings of resentment or hatred?

There is some misandry right there, the whole notion that non-raping, non-abusing, non-assaulting and non-murdering men should be throwing themselves in the path of any harm that might befall a woman. Are these men so fundementally disposable and worthless that they should expect seething resentment from women if they don't perform their manly duties?

If you make all men responsible for all violence then you cannot do so without victim blaming the ones who don't commit it and may very well be the victims of it. Men are far more likely to be the victims of murder and assault after all.

sawdustformypony · 25/02/2018 14:50

One of my recent favourites was here from SofieMonde equating males to assholes.

QuentinSummers · 25/02/2018 14:40

Why do men think they can stand back and watch while men rape, abuse, assault and murder women and yet have women harbour no feelings of resentment or hatred?
Quite.
I also posted on the starting to hate men thread and from what I can recall, the OP wanted advice but instead got derailed by spectacular testeria and mantrums.

I am a fellow traveller with radfems on many issues like trans, anti-prostitution, and I am finding modern pornography troubling. However I do feel there is an undercurrent of misandry interwoven into a lot of feminist ideology, if not practice. Happy to to stand in solidarity on issues I agree with, and individual feminists can be perfectly lovely.

LastGirlOnTheLeft · 25/02/2018 14:20

OR...now that I think about it, they are DESPERATE for women to hate men and they only ACT pissed off, as secretly they are overjoyed that the acts of of utter misogyny men demonstrate every single second of every single day might appear to be not that bad coz look...women hate men!

LastGirlOnTheLeft · 25/02/2018 14:18

I wonder why men get so pissed off at the notion that some women might hate them. If I were a man, I would EXPECT a lot of women to hate me. Why do men think they can stand back and watch while men rape, abuse, assault and murder women and yet have women harbour no feelings of resentment or hatred?

Reddit banned Incels, their posts went too far.

I might pop over to Reddit, maybe the Incel area, see if I can find some evidence of misogyny and see what they make of it when I point it out ... ...

UpstartCrow · 25/02/2018 13:53

Thats one post that displays misandry.

If I saw one post on a forum for men saying 'After some bad experiences I think I'm becoming a a misogynist, I have children and don't want them to pick up these feelings' I'm not convinced I'd use it as an example of rampant misogyny.

LassWiADelicateAir · 25/02/2018 13:52

The OP asked people to post examples of misandry

Did she ? The OP said there have been several claims of misandry on Feminist Chat. Please post examples here using a link and screen shot

It is still not clear to me what she is looking The only examples she has posted were of other posters stating that threads contained misandry. I.e. she identified "claims of misandry" (which I assume she thinks are ill founded) rather than misandry.

LangCleg · 25/02/2018 13:51

I'm just going to reiterate that I don't give a shiny shit if some random bloke giving it the large on a feminist message board has decided that I hate all blokes.

I honestly don't see what other response is necessary unless there's a game to be enjoyed in taking the piss out of that random bloke.

Patodp · 25/02/2018 13:45

OK, seeing as the definition of misandry is actually
Dislike of, contempt for, and prejudice against men
(Doesn't refer to actions. Just feelings etc)
So actually hands up, larrygrylls has made his point.
A woman came to feminist chat to discuss her growing feelings of misandry. (Because of bad treatment from men).

What do we learn from this? Either feminist chat is a misandrist hive mind, or a place to explore various feelings and ideas surrounding the relationship between men and women.

larrygrylls · 25/02/2018 13:42

Sophocles,

There are some brilliant women on here. I hate to generalise by sex, unlike some. However your particular brain may wish to note that I clearly stated I had not proved it. So now we have ad hominem and straw man...

larrygrylls · 25/02/2018 13:40

How about you post the same question in AIBUor chat and see what women think. Even invite only females to reply. Of course you cannot screen out the odd lying male but you might get a wider reflection of what the majority of women think.

Oh, sorry, that would be the majority of those pesky ‘handmaidens’.
