This group, Sisters Uncut, described as Times Up protesters did a BAFTA protest stunt that seems to have got quite a bit of positive coverage across the board, including Mail, Guardian, magazines etc eg:

www.harpersbazaar.com/uk/culture/a18223787/times-up-protesters-crash-baftas-red-carpet/

Why the FUCK is their Edinburgh branch targetting a venue to demand it gives money to a very odd trans lobbying organisation that has tweeted it thinks punching women is OK?!?

The organisation they are demanding money for is Action for Trans Health, I have seen them mentioned on here and the Times has a piece on them which explains a lot more about the facts behind some of the concerns raised:

WTF?!?

What are they saying on the tube now then? “Ladies, gentlemen and those who are pretending not to know which of the two they are.. ”

It is heartbreaking to read her come to the realization that most trans identified males are abusive male misogynist who have found a new and easy way to abuse women with the approval and encouragement of the government.

Ouchbirthhurted · 22/02/2018 10:02

This twitter thread from a domestic abuse/violence survivor heartbreaking and seems to me to cut to the heart of what is so deeply disturbing about the behaviour of Sisters Uncut:

Thanks Empress that's really helpful.

Does anyone know where I would find comparable stats on normal biological women and men?

In the UK there were more trans identified male murderers than victims.

Is this true Bewilderness ?

Do you have a reliable source on this?

Like on the tube etc women have been saying for yonks that we hate the extremely loaded term "ladies", now policy is to not say it because of non binary people

As my friend said when that virtue signalling publicity stunt happened, why not get rid of announcements completely, as they are exclusionary to deaf people?

velourvoyageur · 22/02/2018 08:41

Agree Up

UpABitLate · 22/02/2018 08:27

Women are called the wrong names all the time, around ms/miss/mrs, not taking man's surname, getting called "mrs bob smith" when our name is ms joanna brown etc etc

We were told to stop being so picky and not make a fuss.

We were also told this when we complained about men who were not on things when applied for, being added to them, and put as the account holder, with people then refusing to talk to the woman who had set it up. So many threads about variations of this! Again we're told this sort of thing is just part and parcel of being female and in a relationship.

The difference in approach is insane.

Like on the tube etc women have been saying for yonks that we hate the extremely loaded term "ladies", now policy is to not say it because of non binary people Confused

The pace of change related to anything TIMs ask for vs anything we ask for (even when it's the same thing) shows up who has influence here and who doesn't.

thebewilderness · 22/02/2018 00:18

Does anyone know if these are the same girls and women who acted as human shields for their trans identified male boyfriends at the Court last week?

thebewilderness · 22/02/2018 00:16

In the UK there were more trans identified male murderers than victims.
Like abusive men who claim they were abused then confess to lying when asked to repeat the claim with a lie detector the vast majority recant. Trans identified males have a lower chance of homicide than any other demographic. Like any other abusive males, they lie.

AnotherQuoll · 21/02/2018 23:36

Exactly. When I say "he" or "she" I'm referring, as is standard English, to their sex. After all, as any transactivist will preach "Gender us between the ears, not the legs" and "You can't tell someone's gender just by looking at them". I agree, I can't tell, and I don't really care either.

velourvoyageur · 21/02/2018 20:26

ATH has shown some very aggressive behaviour online.
Their Edinburgh Twitter page has some spectacular loonery going on too (talking about getting rid of all borders, murdering police, releasing all trans prisoners, ragey attacks on trans-friendly libfem orgs in Scotland who don't toe their line 100%).

SU and ATH were two of the orgs phoning round venues trying to locate where the What Is Gender? debate (Sept '17) would be held so that they could harass them into no-platforming & as we know they did succeed in getting the New Cross Learning centre to cancel their hosting of the event. I believe representatives from SU were present at the ATH 'counter-demo' organised at Speakers' Corner with the aim of intimidating those who had gathered there (so they could be walked to the debate's new location, which had been kept secret, if I understand correctly - it wasn't a radfem protest, as some sources have claimed). They're in each other's pockets.

As an aside, this 2 in 5 trans hate crime stat they quote & which I'm seeing bandied about a lot these days - does misgendering/deadnaming count as a hate crime yet? Mermaids UK seems to think it does. So while we're all imagining endemic violence against trans people...
Very bizarre too, as I don't think I've ever gendered anyone using a pronoun before. Why would I use pronouns to refer to the personality type someone feels they fit into? Nah mate, talking about sex.

Open access link that skips the paywall. www.thetimes.co.uk/article/trans-group-ath-condones-punching-feminists-n6mz06pj3?shareToken=8141f23a999d66363b645f1d975f0702

UpABitLate · 21/02/2018 19:01

If it's the people I'm thinking of, one of them fronted up to a youg woman who was on their side just before / after punching the older women on the "other" side.

And then this org said how great it all was.

The fact that this very aggressive individual was fronting up to one of their own group shows that actually what "they" wanted to do was attack some women.

Ouchbirthhurted · 21/02/2018 18:13

I think some of the young women in these organisations seem genuinely concerned about women's rights - certainly the people on the BAFTA carpets look like young women who would be concerned about equality.

How is there such a gap between front end appearance and back end values? Especially concerning in an organisation whose purpose is supposedly to protect extremely vulnerable women.

Have never experienced anything like this before in this type of area, outside of the type of behaviour abusers themselves would display. So positive front on show to all the world, very good at convincing people of this, then coercive and potentially or actually violent behaviour going on behind the scenes.

thebewilderness · 21/02/2018 16:33

It is a transgender male rights org under the guise of Feminism.
The "tell" for self promoters like this group is that they run out in front of the cameras and pretend to be leading the charge.
They are only opposed to the DV experienced by trans gender identified people. They are in favor of beating women who refuse to submit to trans identified male dominance.

TallulahWaitingInTheRain · 21/02/2018 16:26

It's a good question OP

The capture of allegedly feminist organisations by people with noticeably misogynist agendas is becoming a bit of a theme

Ereshkigal · 21/02/2018 14:56

There are lots of screenshots of these tweets.

Ouchbirthhurted · 21/02/2018 13:19

and “violence against terfs is always self defense”.

OP posts:
Ouchbirthhurted · 21/02/2018 13:17

The Times reports the tweets sent by ATH as including this wording: “punching terfs is the same as punching Nazis. Fascism must be smashed with the greatest violence to ensure our collective liberation from it”

Highly recommend a subscription to the Times they often have cheap deals on for new subscribers.

OP posts:
Ereshkigal · 21/02/2018 13:13

They mean punching "TERFs" as an extension of the meme "punch Nazis". I've seen the tweets they refer to.

Childrenofthestones · 21/02/2018 13:09

superhamster said -
"Article is behind a paywall. Can you copy/paste the part where they say "punching women is ok"?"

Did they mean in self-defense or that you could just lamp a woman one if you felt like it?
