So, hands up if you have been blocked by LM on Twitter?

Due to the fact that I have never actually had any contact with LM, and had only liked (or did the heart thing - I'm a bit Twitter illiterate) 2 comments on a Twitter feed (1 - very politely pointed out that LM has not actually spoken about a single women's issue since being in the role and 2 - pointed out, again politely, that LM seems to be more interested in trans issues than women's issues).. I'm going to assume it doesn't take much to be blocked by LM.

I have never posted anything derogatory or even commented on anything to do with LM On Twitter.

Have I managed to be no platformed without actually saying a word? Hmm

Lily's maths are as good as Lily's reading comprehension is. I'd love to have a cup of tea with Lily's mam. I'm sure she's utterly horrified and fearful.

thebewilderness · 25/02/2018 02:21

I think Madigan was 18 in 2016.

OlennasWimple · 25/02/2018 01:59

That article Shock

I wonder if the "childhood memoirs" he is writing will be completely stuffed full of lies, or merely partly full of lies?

Apparently LM has now been "living as a woman" for four years. But also , according to this article from 2016, he came out as transgender in Jan 2016 Hmm

Now, my maths ain't great, but four years back from Feb 2018 is Feb 2014, not Jan 2016....

Ereshkigal · 25/02/2018 01:37

The interesting thing is that the Indie appears to have stopped allowing comments on trans articles. But you can still click through to the Madigan "authored" Harvey Milk piece and the comments are right on the money.

thebewilderness · 25/02/2018 00:01

When trans identified males like Madigan are treated the way women are treated every day suddenly it is headline news.

NotTerfNorCis · 24/02/2018 23:49

The Independent has run an article on Madigan.

www.independent.co.uk/news/uk/politics/lily-madigan-labour-party-transgender-officer-mp-young-abuse-threats-a8225771.html

Not a day goes by where Lily Madigan is not subjected to vitriol or threats. The 20-year-old, who is the first transgender person to be elected as a women’s officer in the constituency Labour Party, has frequently found herself subject to virulent transphobia on social media.

But it has only made the activist, who is running for the role of Young Labour’s national women’s officer, more dogged. She is determined to become Britain’s first transgender MP.

Datun · 24/02/2018 11:14

Others hold a different opinion, and the fact is LM was elected to the position she holds on a mandate of, among other things, promoting the rights of transwomen.

DietCokeGirrrrrl

Can you direct me to where it says this?

I thought the role of women's officer was to recruit as many women to the party as possible.

The fact is that anyone who can read can plainly see that Madigan has an agenda.

All the blocking, language, crazy assertions like 'yes I can get pregnant, biology is irrelevant, and yes you're a cis woman, not a woman, I'm glad you agree', etc.

Your determination to skim the surface of the entire discourse, in order to fish out bits that you can lamely justify, exposes you.

You don't support women and your old-fashioned sexism undermines everything you say.

And the fact that you disengage as soon as women's argument becomes too tricky for you to dismantle, is unsurprising, tedious and I wish people would stop doing it.

VaguelyAware · 24/02/2018 08:29

Not yet. I've never directly engaged with LM.

I agree with PPs, it's a bit like a car crash. I hope LM has some MH support because it looks like they are under a horrible amount of stress at the moment. Labour have been, and are continuing to be, incredibly irresponsible, in allowing such a young person with LM's history & issues, to take such a position. Whatever I think of LM personally or politically is irrelevant; everyone deserves the chance of good mental health.

Trueheart1 · 23/02/2018 13:23

Me. I never interacted with him but still got blocked.

MrsOvarall · 23/02/2018 09:58

I don't comment on L M - it's a car crash waiting to happen. The Labour Party should be utterly ashamed of itself.

It's an impossible choice: help the LP throw women under the bus by staying silent about LM? Or help the LP throw a troubled individual under the bus by drawing attention to that person's political shortcomings? Well played, TAs.

It's a car crash for Lily and for women.

EmpressOfJurisfiction · 23/02/2018 08:00

I got blocked when I asked what LM was doing for women. I wonder if LM's blocked Jess Phillips yet?

LadyCassandra · 23/02/2018 07:47

I’ve just been blocked. I questioned a tweet about equality and asked why they don’t talk about women’s issues, only trans. I suppose I asked for it, and at least I don’t have to see their tweets now.
I think I got away with it before now because my twitter name is something that might be construed as a trans name when actually it relates to where I live Confused

TheRollingCrone · 23/02/2018 02:05

Yes, I'm blocked and on the block list.

I don't comment on L M - it's a car crash waiting to happen. The Labour Party should be utterly ashamed of itself.
They are using him - as soon as L M falls apart they will the first to back off.

thebewilderness · 23/02/2018 01:20

Look at this motion that is passing in CLPs to resolve that "transwomen" are women and to report and expel any who do not submit. They voted for it along with a number of other constituencies so the purge of women from the Labour Party is under way.

I think Labour Party members here who are being purged at Madigan's instigation are capable of being critical of the medical practitioners who are encouraging transitioning children at the same time they try to stop Madigan from harming any more women.

TravellingFleet · 22/02/2018 23:30

I appreciate that LM has put themselves out into the public arena through their political activism, and I am absolutely not justifying their behaviour in that role, which has been deeply inappropriate at times. However, I am concerned that LM is a vulnerable young person some of whose statements suggest that they may be suffering from mental health issues. I think that LM is an easy target for the witty women of MN, and that we should focus our criticism on the people who convinced a child, possibly an autistic child, that they were actually a different gender to that of their physical sex.

clareth · 22/02/2018 23:17

I have just looked at LilyMadagain thank you to the pp that suggested, very funny tweets! Welcome relief from the bizarre world of LM, scary that this person is getting such a platform to spout their crap...

thebewilderness · 22/02/2018 23:16

Please assume that all my typos are cat typing.
They are not, but I would appreciate the assumption.

Ereshkigal · 22/02/2018 22:50

Oh wow didn't see it was your post! Brilliant :)

thebewilderness · 22/02/2018 22:37

Here is the 10th rule of misogyny: The worst thing about male violence is that it males men look bad.
I will go update that reddit post, thanks for reminding me.

OlennasWimple · 22/02/2018 22:37

LM was elected to the position she holds on a mandate of, among other things, promoting the rights of transwomen. She is therefore fulfilling the role she was elected to do

There's a trans officer (who was elected at exactly the same time as LM) whose mandate is to promote the rights of transwomen (and transmen). LM's mandate is to support women in the Labour Party in that constituency and to be the voice of women when the CLP is considering policies and processes, which causes to champion, what representations to make to the Labour Party HQ etc etc.

Ereshkigal · 22/02/2018 22:25

I'd say this also fits the 3rd, 5th, 7th, 8th and 10th rules of misogyny.

thebewilderness · 22/02/2018 22:19

2nd rule of misogyny: Women saying no to men is a violent hate crime.
