The age of the sex dolls

Someone sent me a link to this 'sex doll brothel' in Glasgow; I thought it was an isolated phenomenon but apparently there's more cropping up, in Paris also of all places! They are very expensive and look a lot more realistic than those plastic dolls with a hole for a mouth!
I don't know whether to be relieved that someone will shag a doll instead of treating a woman as such, or despair at the state of societal disfunction...

Are you sure men who use the dolls actually think they are women?

Elendon · 20/02/2018 17:30

Perhaps he might want to stop doing things whilst out there - who would have an appetite or the energy for sex whilst helping people survive. It can be done. Besides ArcheryAnne how is he going to clean the fleshlight especially if there is a water shortage/crisis. Is he expecting a room of his own, given that in an aid crisis shelter is one of the top priorities?

Smacks of entitlement to me.

thedancingbear · 20/02/2018 17:28

All men who excessively masterbate are rather pathetic imo.

Have a day off, will you?

ArcheryAnnie · 20/02/2018 17:27

Patodp my objection to the dolls isn't about wanking (which I don't have any problem with anyone doing), but with how they view women. I really hate that this is what they think women are: just an empty woman-shaped container useful to ejaculate into.

ArcheryAnnie · 20/02/2018 17:25

Oh and taking a flesh light to a country that needs aid is questionable to say the least.

I'd genuinely be interested in why you think this, Elendon, as I suspect we agree on much else. My initial reaction was positive - a man, on packing to spend an extended period of time in a desperately poor community, thought ahead about his own sexual wants, and how he could manage them for himself. I liked that, as I thought a man who expected to spend time with his own right hand, and had actively planned for that in his own personal packing, would be less likely to prey on local women and children. (I could be wrong, but that was my first reaction.)

Patodp · 20/02/2018 17:17

(Genuine reply)

Patodp · 20/02/2018 17:16

What makes them' pathetic', Patodp? Genuine question

The word "wanker" comes to mind.
That masturbating is so important he will go to such effort and pay money to writhe around with a plastic doll.

All men who excessively masterbate are rather pathetic imo.

Fishfingersandwichnocheese · 20/02/2018 17:15

I too think these could be more likely to be detrimental to women.

I’m seeing a vision of the future where women can be replaced by these and virtual reality porn as a pp mentioned - with robots fulfilling other functions that are traditionally seen as “women’s” work.

What place will be left for us then ? Such a large proportion of society already doesn’t see us as people.

I think it was “living dolls” that talks about sex/strip clubs and so on leading to a rise in sexual assaults on local women presumably something to do with the dehumanising of women that occurs in them.

cinematique · 20/02/2018 16:51

I just googled flesh lights and nearly choked on my tea Shock

Elendon - the sort of people who would buy a used vibrator are not the sort of people you want to deal with, I would have thought...

Fleshlights.... Don't google while eating lunch....

Nuffaluff · 20/02/2018 16:48

If you’d bought it from Lovehoney, you could send it back for a full refund, no quibbles.
Apparently.

Elendon · 20/02/2018 16:42

If I put a slightly used vibrator up for sale would there be any takers?

It would probably end up on AIBU

If a man put up a sex doll for sale, used, I bet he would get a sale.

Oh and taking a flesh light to a country that needs aid is questionable to say the least.

TheButterflyOfTheStorms · 20/02/2018 16:33

Totally @ArcheryAnnie I agree and know many people with disabilities in very happy relationships.

I'm selling t-shirts!

Ereshkigal · 20/02/2018 16:23

My vagina isn't subject to the Equality Act.

I want a t shirt of this Grin

ArcheryAnnie · 20/02/2018 16:22

Oh, I agree, TheButterfly. I was just making the point that being disabled doesn't map 1:1 on being unable to attract a partner.

ArcheryAnnie · 20/02/2018 16:20

Also, I have to admit, I looked at that bloke who owned the doll, considered how lazy many twenty-something men are at cleaning, and thought "yuk".

TheButterflyOfTheStorms · 20/02/2018 16:18

Anyone can disregard anyone as a sexual partner for any reason. I exclude people on incredibly shallow and personal lines. My vagina isn't subject to the Equality Act.

ArcheryAnnie · 20/02/2018 16:18

I am willing to change my mind on this, but my current thinking is that I judge any men who use sex dolls like this, as that's what they think about women. And yes, sex dolls aren't women, but we as humans anthropomorphise anything, given the slightest opportunity. Look at the Pixar lamp, ffs! I don't believe for a second that the men using these dolls don't invest some feeling into them, see them as they see women.

I'm all for men using things like fleshlights, if they want to, as they are a mechanism, not 3D porn. (I remember a Sunday magazine supplement with a "what are you packing" holiday feature, and an aid worker who had his kit photographed was excoriated for having a fleshlight with the rest of his kit, and I remember thinking "good on him for having it, at least he won't be abusing local women...")

AssassinatedBeauty · 20/02/2018 16:16

It is not inevitable, disabled people are not precluded from relationships. It isn't more likely that they will want to use sex dolls because it is (much) harder to form a relationship.

thedancingbear · 20/02/2018 16:15

Sorry, I should add, anyone who disregards a potential boyfriend or girlfriend based purely on a disability is arguably a bit of a wanker, but sadly it does happen.

thedancingbear · 20/02/2018 16:10

No one is entitled to sex, nor do they need it

I agree.

thedancingbear · 20/02/2018 16:09

I think it's pretty hateful (and ignorant) to suggest disability precludes anyone from being attractive as a potential sexual and/or romantic partner to a real, live person, thedancingbear

I respectfully disagree. A close relative, whom I love as much as anyone in the world, is disabled and has found that a huge barrier to finding a life partner.

Elendon · 20/02/2018 16:07

The most coercive men in terms of sex, rapey too, I've had sex with are those considered 'alpha' males, the top 5%, the creme de la creme. I would guess they would have no guilt when it comes to using prostitutes.

CapnHaddock · 20/02/2018 16:05

@thedancingbear No one is entitled to sex, nor do they need it.

AssassinatedBeauty · 20/02/2018 16:03

Of course there are. That's doesn't mean that they would obviously want to have access to sex dolls instead.

And they still wouldn't be experiencing a sexual relationship if they used one of these dolls.
