Transgender women ARE women

Except they're not. If they were they wouldn't need that 'trans' prefix.

I'd be really interested in hearing why you think women face oppression. Do you believe it's because they present as women or is something else going on? Or maybe you don't think women face oppression. Is that it?

AngryAttackKittens · 17/02/2018 09:25

Lily Madigan is not a woman, he's a narcissistic young man who would have no business even in an LGBT officer position, never mind as a woman's officer. This is partly because he's not bright and has very little life experience, but mostly because he's not a woman.

Hope that helps clarify things.

Transgender women ARE women

On what basis?

Agerbilatemycardigan · 17/02/2018 09:22

'Transgender women' are not women. It's about sex, not gender.

Gamer · 17/02/2018 09:14

Transgender women ARE women. There is nothing wrong with a Transgender person running a group for women. There is nothing wrong with part of the alloted meeting addressing Transwomen issues. By expecting transgender women to "stick to thier own" group, you are perpetuating the exclusion of people based on gender. Its interesting that the reaction on this thread basically highlights why it is so important to address this attitude outside of *just the transgender community and raise awareness with women in general.

Childrenofthestones · 17/02/2018 09:12

The comment that they are busy giftwrapping the next election for the Tories made me chuckle.

QueenLaBeefah · 17/02/2018 08:37

The whole photo is hilarious. Everyone looks unbelievably bored except the bloke with the handbag.

This woman is all of us.
BitFuckedOffNow · 17/02/2018 08:22

And there are screenshots of him interacting with the group too, so it's not like he was added without his knowledge either.

NotTerfNorCis · 17/02/2018 08:15

Secrets it was mentioned in the press - the Spectator and Telegraph covered it. The group still exists on FB and Madigan is still an admin.

AngryAttackKittens · 17/02/2018 08:00

Bright On would work. Seems like there's an awful lot of smug going around there.

UpstartCrow · 17/02/2018 07:57

joystir59 Your DW is right, this is a male supremacy movement.

joystir59 · 17/02/2018 07:46

Brighton sorry

joystir59 · 17/02/2018 07:45

Madigan sorry

joystir59 · 17/02/2018 07:45

Lily Marian is a bloke. I'm.in a same sex marriage and my DW predicted this situation ages ago when MITs started taking over lesbian spaces in Bright in- that men would start rising up as key female decision makers in politics and other spheres.

boatyardblues · 17/02/2018 07:35

Bewilderness - please don’t feel got at. Other posters pick this up & correct on many threads because its important not to propogate a partial truth. LM was involved in hounding a LP woman’s officer out of post (bad, no question about it) but not the one they now inhabiting. Being careful about facts means that can’t be used to undermine the wider point being made about LM’s manifest unsuitability for the post they are occupying.

thebewilderness · 17/02/2018 06:36

I beg your pardon.
I misunderstood which position he hounded the woman out of. I thought it was the one he then ran for.
Than you for the correction, sort of.

AngryAttackKittens · 17/02/2018 06:36

Manspreading in flowery skirt bloke looks fascinated though. Can't say I've ever felt the urge to use my handbag to cover my bollocks, partly on account of not having any.

AngryAttackKittens · 17/02/2018 06:34

Or their heads on their hands in "trying not to nod off too obviously" style.

Collidascope · 17/02/2018 06:31

I love how many of the audience members have their hands over their mouths -the classic 'I'm trying to stop my self saying something' body language.

Njordsgrrrl · 17/02/2018 06:30

The rape jokes he made don't exactly instill me with confidence he's going to be great on women's issues either tbh.

AngryAttackKittens · 17/02/2018 06:20

(In the bigger pic front row grey sweatshirt and docs woman looks pretty damn skeptical too.)

AngryAttackKittens · 17/02/2018 06:18

The problem, gamer, is that this person is the women's officer, not the LGBT officer, therefore their job is to talk about women's issues, not trans issues.

(Well, one of the many problems - try reading almost any other thread on Madigan for more info.)

Gamer · 17/02/2018 06:08

What on earth is going on in this thread. If the Labour party dedicates a few moments to to talk about Trans rights etc, why is it such a problem for you? Trans people should have an expectation that government support their rights. There's nothing wrong with having this discussion, no matter how irrelevant you may feel it is to you personally. I could spend half a day talking about my dedication to reinstalling a bus route on my road and there is room for that discussion too. Politics isn't Jeremy Kyle. Most of the time, it IS boring, but it is necessary.
