Have seen two totally irrelevant threads on the board. Both regarding babies. I wonder if someone is trying to remind us of our proper function. The only purpose I can think of is to drive 'proper ' threads down the board. I have reported the threads suggesting that they are moved to chat but not commented as I don't want to bump them. Suggest this might be a good way to deal if we get lots of these.

It's the sealion tag team! New game!

There's a cartoon somewhere out there with a great white swimming up to a seal with the caption "I too am a cute and harmless harbor seal", or something like that. Damned if I can find the thing again though, maybe someone with better Google skills than me will.

I just missed one in a harbor once, got there and all the seals were up on the docks being very quiet. Asked a fisherman what was up, he said a juvenile had been swimming around so all the seals got out of the water.

(Analogies there too, nasty bigoted seals, how did they know the shark was going to bite them?)

CertainHalfDesertedStreets · 13/02/2018 12:49

I wasn't worried about sharks. I was entranced. Perhaps I should have been though - I know there were sharks because I saw them when we were diving. Big 'uns too.

carrierwaveonly · 13/02/2018 12:48

RatRolyPoly. I agree it is sad. I tend to take name calling for what it is and let it roll off me, however i do take your point about it being part of a wider picture.

Its hard to know how much of anything that is written on these boards as genuine sentiment, for all we know all the anti-trans posts could be coming from a St Petersberg troll farm. I guess we'll never know.

History has proven time and time again that the middle ground if often the way forward. There is surely some common ground to be found in the venn diagram of womanhood?

Baracker I wish I had your eloquence

Barracker that post was to Mach, not carrier? I think you may have misunderstood, but I won't try and make you change your mind.

RatRolyPoly · 13/02/2018 12:38

It was a concession, not a dig Barracker; i I'm confident in my (often questioned, often evidenced) integrity but your misrepresentation of me on this one means I'm no longer sure about yours.

AngryAttackKittens · 13/02/2018 12:38

"When people tell you who they are, believe them."

She wasn't wrong.

BarrackerBarmer · 13/02/2018 12:32

Take it up with carrier, then rat, because we already know our stance, we know carrier is utterly misrepresenting us, and your posts to carrier aren't challenging that at all. Not to mention your little dig there that "in your mind" there is a backdrop of posters not liking transpeople.

Let's be clear - what is 'in your mind' is not a reflection of reality, nor is it a fair representation of the objective observable truth on these boards. Which is a perfect metaphor for the entire "transwomen are women" stance.

I actually think you are disingenuous now, and I'm not sure you post in good faith.

RatRolyPoly · 13/02/2018 12:23

You must have missed my reply above to Mach, @BarrackerBarmer, as I do precisely the things you would expect of me.

Carrier wrote:
The fact remains, no one, but no one has come up with any arguements apart from "i just don't like trans people".

Mach wrote: Do you agree with that statement?

Rat wrote: Mach people have come up with different arguments when speaking to me. I don't know what anyone's said to carrier. I have had wonderfully insightful conversations with people like Italiangreyhound and other posters that have not boiled down to "not liking trans people", but for clarity; these have been against a backdrop of a lot of posters clearly (in my mind) not liking trans people. So there truth on both sides.

That last one looks like a chocolate Lab with flippers.

RatRolyPoly · 13/02/2018 12:17

horrid I hear you! But you're not allowed to talk to anyone about how best to achieve that, you know that, right?

Cheers coffee, but as you'll see if you look around you you're being broadcast to loud and clear.

BarrackerBarmer · 13/02/2018 12:15

rat you've just treated someone who has posted this:
"no one has come up with any arguements apart from "i just don't like trans people" as if you are allies, as if there is nothing controversial in that statement.

Yet, women have debated thoughtfully with you over hours and hours, giving detailed responses. If you agree that carrier's characterisation fairly represents your experience with gender critical feminists then you have no integrity. If you cannot even bring yourself to mention your experience of debating us does not chime with carrier's experience, then I will reluctantly agree with others that you have no respect for your debating contemporaries, and I will ignore your posts going forwards.

I don't mind the sealions and ploppers. They give us opportunity after opportunity to demonstrate that the emperor has no clothes WRT transgender activism. Science, statistics, research and critical thought are on our side. People see this. It's okay.

Rat, I personally don't have you down as a sealion. Smile

AngryAttackKittens · 13/02/2018 12:06

Poor sea puppies, they deserve better than being associated with people who alternately bore or annoy you to death.

Horridemma · 13/02/2018 12:04

All I want is my rights to be protected not eroded. They have been hard fought for and now being taken away by men

I don't mind being called a sealion to be honest.

I'll be honest carrier, I mind it! I mind because this is our feminism board, THIS is what women see when they click on the threads, this represents Feminism on MN; and it's like a bloody teenaged playground!

Talk about shedding stereotypes, turning women on to Feminism, building up other women, valuing their views.

I think it's disgusting if I'm honest.

Undoubtedly I won't be the only one to see this who thinks so.

Mostly I just think it's very sad.

Arf arf, to my ears. I've seen them basking in the sun on a pier before and they're very loud! And presumably less stinky from a human's perspective when they're underwater.

(Weren't you worried about sharks though? They love sealions, and seals.)

Horridemma · 13/02/2018 11:57

Arf arf lol

RatRolyPoly · 13/02/2018 11:55

Do you agree with that statement?

Mach people have come up with different arguments when speaking to me. I don't know what anyone's said to carrier.
