Labour lose 3 points - ALL women leaving the party

"The 3-point fall in the Labour share [in You Gov poll] is entirely explained by a 6-point fall among women (from 46% to 40%)"

CON 43 (+1)
LAB 39 (-3)
LD 8 (+2)

@jenniferjames says "Oh fucking hell. I broke the Labour party. :-( "

I've got very mixed feelings. On the one hand - go everyone! They'll have to take notice - surely?

But - Jesus Christ let's not let the Tories have another term.

But - we have to stick up for ourselves don't we.

Starting to think the people who say the rapid rise in TRA ideology is being fuelled by those who stand to benefit from a divided left might have a point. Sad

I have never felt more strongly on any issue. I have never been more angry than I am now. No party that erases women will ever have my vote.

ShowOfHands · 11/02/2018 10:35

I've voted Labour for 20 years. I'm handing in my membership over this. They can't have me in their party if they don't recognise who I am.

Patodp · 11/02/2018 10:33

Champion
The thing is, women are leaving the membership, changing their voting intention and generally backing away because they are being verbally attacked and abused by Labour party activists.

It's not about one or two policies they don't agree with, it's about witnessing rape threats and verbal abusive or being threatened/abused themselves. Usually for saying very little on social media. And it's completely misogynistic.

I think that is a strong deterrent.

TerfyMcTerface · 11/02/2018 10:32

Does anyone know what the situation is with the constituency boundary changes? Are they going to be in place before the next general election? As I understand it, this is something which will not be to Labour's advantage.

TheCountessofFitzdotterel · 11/02/2018 10:28

I don't think Labour are being canny at all - they're taking the older women voters for granted, because we have turned out reliably in the past.
Because they are not listening to women they have no idea how strongly we feel about this.

Everyonematters · 11/02/2018 10:27

Champion I think they will find plenty of people for whom this would be a deciding factor.

Everyonematters · 11/02/2018 10:26

Fellow has this happened yet or currently a concern that it is likely to become reality:

bend over backwards to make sure that people have everything the need to get the best out of the events we put on. But if a man - who is very obviously a man - in women’s clothing (or a pastiche of women’s clothing to be precise) kicking up a fuss and angrily demanding access to the ladies loos - or shower facilities (some venues have gear for cyclists or gym goers) how can I in all conscience say ‘yes that’s fine, on you go. Of course it may well make he other women uneasy or even scares but fuck ‘em, us girlies just have to suck it up, eh? Or do I take them around to the loos and loiter in case someone kicks off?

Peston on Sunday showing a significant drop in support for Labour (poll of polls). John Macdonald talking about the importance of every vote

Wonder when they'll get round to noticing that women are walking away because we're being thrown under the bus.

Fekko · 11/02/2018 10:19

I actually now dread running seminars and courses these days (its part of my job). I am fine dealing with people who have additional needs, dietary requirements etc.

I bend over backwards to make sure that people have everything the need to get the best out of the events we put on. TuftedLadyGrotto · 11/02/2018 10:15

I've left labour over trans issues too. I was already pissed off about Brexit and the chaos.

I've posted the above on my fb with my reasons for leaving. I've been told I'm narrow minded.

LangCleg · 11/02/2018 10:11

I don't think so. Labour relies on turnout for good election results much more than the Tories do. If women don't turn out, the Tories will win. Their support is also more fallible to the first-past-the-post system so relies more on small differences.

Labour can less afford to turn off women than the Tories can.

Is it worth commenting on here? He needs to wake up.

boatyardblues · 11/02/2018 09:57

I hate the idea of spoiling my ballot at the next election, but I’m damned if I’m going to vote away my rights by supporting any party that thinks so little of women.

boatyardblues · 11/02/2018 09:56

My local wep branch is clearly gender critical (or at least it was, I have not checked in a while) and in an area that you would not expect it from. They didn't make a big song and dance about it but if you are gender critical, certain 'likes' and people they were following and certain stories that they weren't discussing it was quite obvious.

If disenfranchised women were to join WEP in large numbers, would there be scope to change the party’s stance on women’s rights to a more gender critical stance from the inside? We have power in numbers.

AssignedPuuurfectAtBirth · 11/02/2018 09:45

LangCleg

Totally agree with you. I won't vote for any party that supports self ID.

TBH if Labour don't address this soon I will never vote for them again - I'm pretty close to this at the moment but living in hope. And that includes allowing males to self ID as women and access AWS. If I never heard from or saw that wee brat Madigan I'd be fucking delighted

BrownTurkey · 11/02/2018 09:44

Adam Boulton has done a comment piece in the Times this morning about the Labour drop. It is mainly pro Theresa May, but he does mention all the reasons women are leaving the Labour party quite comprehensively, and mentions the Labour party championing of trans rights and the opposition to that of Linda Bellos and Greer.

C8H10N4O2 · 11/02/2018 09:44

Maybe a Women say Fuck Off party.

Yes - what I always hoped the women's equality party would be.

hazeyjane · 11/02/2018 09:41

LibDems and WEP are both vehemently pro self identification, no questions no challenges, no protections against malicious men.

The changes were fairly sudden and as a result of very effective lobbying from a small group - effective because it tapped into both groups inclination to liberalism and equality.

The left has always had a dubious relationship with women. Its not a coincidence that the main party of the left has never really come close to electing a woman leader. Many of the men who suppressed and covered up sexual assaults on women in the 'bad old days' are back there at the forefront now.
I can remember as a young woman being told repeatedly that the women's struggle will come naturally as part of human liberation (always with a subtext of "make the tea luv").

Other women told me at the time that Labour had gone backwards after progress in the Wilson/Callaghan era. Many left.

My local Labour party has sent out a motion against "witch hunts" recently and the right for an accused to know their accuser. Except when I asked I was told this relates to the policy of anonymity for complainants of sexual misconduct and bullying. They want that anonymity removed.

I don't recognise the Labour Party atm, and I was never even close to being a Blairite. I can't vote for it in current state and attitudes to 50% of the electorate.

CAAKE · 11/02/2018 09:39

Yes, Cheeky. See this link concerning the WEP:

Cheekyandfreaky · 11/02/2018 09:38

@Valentinesfart is that a thing? Are you proposing it? I have a vote I need to use!

Elendon · 11/02/2018 09:37

I didn't renew my membership for a number of reasons the main one being their stance on Brexit.

I will probably still vote for them, but I will not be helping out at general or local elections.

rowdywoman1 · 11/02/2018 09:34

I think RedToothBrush is right.
I have told both Labour party and Lib Dem canvassers this week that I will not consider voting for their party while they support self ID of women. Both - men - were rather non plussed but the Libdem gay man promised to go away and look at Fair play for women and to google the cotton ceiling.
(Lives in one of Labour's target seats so they're all very busy)
