So DD's organ donor card just arrived...

...and she waved it at me, so I said "Right you're supposed to have a chat about your wishes with your family." She, continuing to waggle it, says "This is me telling you about my wishes". So I said "Okay, but have you thought about your womb and the trans thing?"

Turns out she doesn't want a man using her womb after her death.

So that's fine, but it made me think; should we all be stipulating this in writing to the organ donor organisation?

But you won't donate them because you don't want them to go to a transwoman. It's still prejudice.

Of course that's not "prejudice".
It's ethics and logic. It would be criminal if £millions were wasted on that "dream".

I agree with the ww2 thing definitely, some TIMs hate and fear women so much they are trying to basically erase us by trying to make people believe their 'fact'.

It is awful I agree.

mustbemad17 · 10/02/2018 16:16

I've only ever heard peak trans on MN but i have never taken it to mean being transphobic. I always took it as realising that there are a group of transgender folk hijacking the whole issue. I most certainly would never use it if I thought it offensive to the majority of transgender men & women who wanted to live a life without discrimination

southboundagain · 10/02/2018 16:15

'It's transphobic and hateful to have an ethical objection to attempting to transplant uteruses into male bodied people?"

It's a stupid strawman argument. No-one's actually doing it, and people are using it as signalling for their transphobia.

LangCleg · 10/02/2018 16:15

But you won't donate them because you don't want them to go to a transwoman. It's still prejudice.

No, it's not. It's a commitment to medical ethics.

This is something transplantation and IVF services have to take very seriously as there is comprehensive legislation covering them. If it ever becomes possible to gestate a child in the hostile environment of a man's body, womb transplant or no womb transplant, the legislation would have to be changed and would be centred on the rights of the potential child and not the validation/desires of the man who wanted to give birth.

SusanBunch · 10/02/2018 16:15

They have only just been able to give a womb transplant to a WOMAN. You can't just shove an organ in there and sew it on to an artery and expect it to function the same as in a woman's body. Even if they ever tried, it would almost certainly be rejected by the body.

The very few transplants on women were from a live donor and not all were successful. You don't get to go on the donor transplant list just because you fancy having a womb transplanted in you.

This is such pie in the sky it's unbelievable. Also worrying that your first thought should be 'shit what if a trans person gets an organ' when your daughter has very selflessly decided to donate her organs.

Battleax · 10/02/2018 16:14

All seems a bit much doesn't it. A lot of those posts are people who have been personally hurt by someone in the grand community or whatever. Have you op? Why are you so against it?

I'm not "against it" (assuming "it" is trans). I'm all for people living however they want and eschewing stereotypes of gender. I'm happy with the existing GRA which was a big leap forward in helping trans people, although I think it would be even better if we could, as a society, accept that sex is immutable and genetic and gender is a spectrum.

I'm concerned about various specific things; male bodied athletes getting places on women's sport teams after short courses of hormones and without surgery; Sex change by self declaration (self ID); Arrangements for women's refuges and similar. Etc.

One of things that peak transed me was discovering that 85% of MtF transpeople keep their functioning male genitalia. That's different from the transwomen I've known who've been desperate for and fulfilled by surgery and gone to some lengths to get it.

Another was reading about the "cotton ceiling" whereby the aforementioned "women with functioning penises" are harassing and verbally abusing lesbians for not wanting to have sex with them.

Lots of things. The second link is a good read.

That first link is good for the definition but the second link is more relatable.

What is this 'trans' obsession going on atm? I don't get it!

Eminybob · 10/02/2018 16:13

Peak trans isn’t about not liking trans people. At all. It’s about being deeply disturbed by the views and actions of certain members of the trans activist community. It’s about not wanting women’s rights and spaces eroded.

PorkSpork · 10/02/2018 16:12

I agree Enid. It all starts to sound like Hitler pre WW2. Hatred fuelled by fear, passed off as fact.

southboundagain · 10/02/2018 16:12

"But you won't donate them because you don't want them to go to a transwoman. It's still prejudice."

Agreed, and also agreed with your comment on "peak trans".

lucylouuu · 10/02/2018 16:11

so " peak trans " is the time you realised you didn't like transgender people?

and what you said was because you can't choose that your reproductive organs won't go to a trans person, you just won't donate them atall. lovely.

AssassinatedBeauty · 10/02/2018 16:11

Enidthecat · 10/02/2018 16:08

I'm not comfortable with "peak trans" at all.

It wouldn't be ok to start a thread about the time you ultimately realised you disnt like same sex relationships or people of a different skin colour to yourself. Why is this ok?

mustbemad17 · 10/02/2018 16:08

Xpost with Enid

mustbemad17 · 10/02/2018 16:08

But your reasoning for not donating your reproductive organs at all is because you don't want transgenders to use them

Enidthecat · 10/02/2018 16:07

But you won't donate them because you don't want them to go to a transwoman. It's still prejudice.

PorkSpork · 10/02/2018 16:06

Why hate trans people though?
This is vile.

Battleax · 10/02/2018 16:06

If people start saying "my womb can't go to a transgender man" will we next be saying "my eyes can't go to a black woman" or "my liver can't go to a gay man" or "my heart can't go to a poor woman"?

But that isn't what I'm saying.

I'm saying "I won't donate my reproductive organs at all".

Prejudice is prejudice.

I don't care who gets my organs. I won't be around for it to matter. If it helps people then great but I don't get to chose who those people are.

Enidthecat · 10/02/2018 16:02

Trans not grand

Battleax · 10/02/2018 16:02

Being male I don’t have a womb but can sort of see where you are coming from.

However I’m happy about any part of me being used for someone else’s future health or wellbeing.

I’ll be dead and have no use for them.

For neatnesses sake I’d like to be stitched up and be presentable afterwards but again it’s not that important.

So regretfuly Im putting my reproductive organs off limits to donation as I have disquiet about them potentially being used in male bodies not designed to support them.

I can't even begin to understand that kind of thinking.
I'd rather my organs were not given to a peodophile but I have to accept that there is a possibility they may, me refusing to give donate any of my organs at all because there is a very small possibility they will go to a peodophile will only prevent more really diserving people in need of organ donation from receiving needed organs.
