Was Greer Right When She Said Men Hate Women?

I have just skim read The Female Eunuch and like everyone else, the stand out line to me was that men hate us but we aren't aware of the extent, and neither are they!!

Do you think this is true?? My DH, my late father and my brother, all immensely like/d and love/d the women in their lives. I hate to think it is true, but if it is, I want to know! I want to know my enemy.

I suggest Carrie and Ray have a quick look online and see just how many women are threatened daily for having an opinion, for being out there. Death threats, rape threats, you name it. This is well documented fact, misogyny is everywhere.

OutyMcOutface · 10/02/2018 23:03

@Wimmple a class is made up of individuals. Saying that all me hate women is just as stupid as saying all upper class people hate working class people. It's a generalisation. There are times when generalisations are useful, and there are times when they are stupid. They are useful when you are talking about very specific issues within a very small group of people where outliers can be disregarded. When you are talking about upwards of three billion people they are stupid.

Terftastic · 10/02/2018 23:00

You can't doubt my figures Carrie - they are a matter of public record.

OlennasWimple · 10/02/2018 23:00

The suggestion that all men hate all women because they are women is just a bit silly isn't it

Have you ever heard of "class analysis"?

Lettucepray · 10/02/2018 23:00

So Ray, as explained...men account for 90% of all crime..98% sexual crime....and you still think you're the victim?? Deary deary me.........come on the, justify and explain why that is....all us little women are simply on the edge of our seats.

HandbagKrabby · 10/02/2018 22:59

I’ve seen the analogy than men see women like dogs. Nice to have around and you love them dearly but they don’t get an opinion and if they step out of line then you slap them back down. Namalt and nadalt but I think it works. It’s not always visceral hate, it’s more we’re not truly human, like a man is. Not men.

Those poor women mentioned upthread. There are no words. I don’t expect the women do it to types have a shred of compassion for them as per.

CoolCarrie · 10/02/2018 22:59

But Terf , you are being patronising... I am of an age to remember when The Female Eunuch came out and was passed around my school. I don’t doubt your figures at all Terf, not in the least.

OlennasWimple · 10/02/2018 22:59

Are men really the cause of all the ills of the world

No one has said that Hmm

OutyMcOutface · 10/02/2018 22:55

Um, no is the short answer. Greer is a bit nuts. The suggestion that all men hate all women because they are women is just a bit silly isn't it. I can't say I have ever felt hated by men in general. Misunderstood, yes, quite often. Taken for granted by some men is another thing I have felt. But my hated. Hate is a very strong word.

Terftastic · 10/02/2018 22:55

Shall we talk abut how women were treated by Henry VIII?

Terftastic · 10/02/2018 22:55

Or the English Civil War?

Terftastic · 10/02/2018 22:54

Ray - yes - shall we talk about the Tudors?

RaySwan · 10/02/2018 22:53

Terftastic you obviously are trolling. Do you know anything about history?

Terftastic · 10/02/2018 22:52

And don't tell me how to "be".

CoolCarrie · 10/02/2018 22:52

God, I bet you are all shouting YES at the keyboard now!

Terftastic · 10/02/2018 22:51

Women are just as capable of murder & violence towards men and other women.

And that is a fucking downright lie.

Men are responsible for well over 80% of all violent crime, and 98% of all sexual crime.

CoolCarrie · 10/02/2018 22:51

Don’t be so patronising. Just because I don’t want to play the blame game. Are men really the cause of all the ills of the world?

Terftastic · 10/02/2018 22:50

Men have always been allowed not to go to war - there were conscientious objectors.

It depends which war you're talking about as to how relevant this line of argument is - but oh look! Suddenly we're talking about men at war - not women, or the subject of this thread. What a fucking surprise.

Sorry - did we try to talk about women for a moment there! On mumsnet, on the feminist section? Excuse us! Hmm

CoolCarrie · 10/02/2018 22:49

Women are just as capable of murder & violence towards men and other women. Have you seen the state of some people on Saturday nights? Young pissed women knocking lumps out of each other, do you think that that behaviour is all due to men?

thebewilderness · 10/02/2018 22:47

Hello CoolCarrie. You are on the Feminism Chat portion of mumsnet. Do you know what Feminism is?

RaySwan · 10/02/2018 22:46

Terftastic

Sorry but that’s just bullshit. Many where shamed into going, a sense of duty ect. Yes some will have gone (not knowing what they where signing up to) for glory but remember that men where not allowed not to go to war.

Terftastic · 10/02/2018 22:46

Women are not even allowed on the front line.

CoolCarrie · 10/02/2018 22:46

Are women not decorated for their actions in War? What about all the brave women in the SOE in the Second World War?

thebewilderness · 10/02/2018 22:45

Your slip is showing, Ray.
Women receive much longer sentences for violent crime than men do.
While men like you are entitled to your own opinions you are not entitled to your own facts.

CoolCarrie · 10/02/2018 22:44

Greer’s sweeping statements are far too general. It is HER experience of men she writes about.
