...please could I ask exactly what was your lightbulb moment? What did you hear or read that pushed you to our alpine slopes?

Rose McGowan and a trans woman being misogynistic to me on social media.

horseknickers · 07/02/2018 20:28

It was the whole cis thing for me. I am a woman. I refuse to use a prefix. I've had enough.

YourVagesty · 07/02/2018 20:27

WiseUp I know this is cruel but i'm glad you are feeling my rage Grin I carry this around with me all the time. Shall I pour us both a big gin?

OvaHere · 07/02/2018 20:26

That's awful YourVagesty. It's these types of things that go unnoticed by the world that will continually erode everything women have achieved for themselves.

YourVagesty · 07/02/2018 20:26

Oh yeah. And when I was part of a work committee putting together a maternity policy. And by the time it was finished it was 32 pages long and didn't include the words 'mother' or 'maternity'.

At one point, I completely took the piss out of the committee, exasperated at the twisting of language, and suggesting that we refer to the parents as 'Reproductive Unit 1' and 'Reproductive Unit 2'. That's also the moment I decided I couldn't continue with my employment at that idiotic place.

SquareDot · 07/02/2018 20:26

Lily Madigan.

That is all.

WiseUpJanetWeiss · 07/02/2018 20:25

And....YourVagesty has peaktransed me all over again. Need more wine....

WiseUpJanetWeiss · 07/02/2018 20:23

I can’t remember. Possibly falling down a mumsnet rabbit hole that brought me over here.

Fairly recently, but before I came onto the Feminitst board, a TIM at work sexually harrassed one of my young colleagues in an attempt to “turn” her into a lesbian. The whole idea blew my mind a bit. I’ve evidently led a sheltered life...!

If we had profile signatures on here I would be totally stealing this for mine:

I never thought that I would be relying on the Daily Mail to save us all from the lady penis

FruHagen · 07/02/2018 20:20

When the British Medical Journal said medical practitioners should avoid using the term "pregnant women" to avoid offending trans people. "Pregnant people" should be used instead.

It's a really bad idea to erase the words women and Mother. How are we supposed to fight without owning our own names.

And the ultimate irony is - what are they all transitioning to if we are forced to dismantle the concept of a woman for fear of offending them?

SidSparrow · 07/02/2018 20:19

I've been hooked on this for the last week. It's like the world just went totally nuts when I wasn't looking! I've always felt for transgender folks, can't be easy but there is something kind of sinister about this. My peaktrans came after reading 'transwomen are women' for the 50th time. Do they actually believe this? I actually feel sorry for genuine transexuals, so trapped in their bodies they go to great lengths to try and have the body they feel they are meant to have. Then along comes Clive who puts on a frock and lippy and wants everyone to call him Mavis or some bull and feel sorry for him because 'cis women' forget their p's and q's and talk about their female anatomy? I don't think so Clive. And no, that lesbian isn't being a transphobe because you've decided you're also a lesbian and she's not prepared to suck your female penis.

Have the monkeys been let out the zoo or what?

YourVagesty · 07/02/2018 20:19

And im still angry now. Apologies for any typos in the above. That was a looooooooong post Grin

YourVagesty · 07/02/2018 20:17

Mine was a while back. But the facts are (briefly) as follows:

I work in a male dominated profession. Somebody in NY had a great idea to link up all the women in the industry by having a women only secret FB group. The ambition was to forge connections and give each other opportunities. It was hugely exciting and within 24 hours we had 30000 members and there were so many truly incredible exchanges going on. Ground breaking.

Some handmaidens invited a few trans in. You can probably guess the rest.

It started with the language policing to begin with. We'd been starting our posts with 'hello ladies!' 'Hey girls!' Etc. Basically revelling in our secret womens' club. The trans interlopers drew up a furious charter stating that we couldn't use words like ladies, women, girls etc. This drawing up and editing and debating the charter took for fucking ever and then they amended it to include references to periods, abortions etc. Couldn't talk about those etc. Btw. A LOT of women on this forum were writers on womens magazines and they covered womens topics like that, unsurprisingly.

AND ANYWAY. IT WAS A WOMENS' FUCKING FORUM!

Anyway, to bring this sorry tale to a close, the whole focus became about our trans members, all out war ensued and within a week the club had imploded. Oh, and I had a handmaiden call me a bigot Hmm

Terfinater · 07/02/2018 20:10

Datun on these boards peaked me. I really didn't know anything about it till then.

catscan · 07/02/2018 20:02

Like Geronimo it was Caster Semanya. Specifically the 800m at Rio in 2016, where the Gold, Silver and Bronze medals went to people who have excessive testosterone (and look like men), and Lynsey Sharp got destroyed in the press and on Twitter for looking pissed off about it.

The poor woman.

I know intersex isn't the same as trans, but it's still phenomenally unfair. I don't know how anyone can think it is.

SomeDyke · 07/02/2018 20:01

The Cotton Ceiling -- at least in the old days no one expected the dykes to fancy the TIM, and doubly so if they still had a dick.

FGM is transphobic, apparently (well, the name supposedly). That's when I realised there is nothing that is sacred or beyond the pale as far as TRAs are concerned.

CaptainBrickbeard · 07/02/2018 20:00

A thread on here quite a while ago. A woman was asking advice on starting her transgender daughter in Reception - should she get the teacher to talk to the class about it? The child in question apparently ‘knows her body is different to other little girls’ bodies’ but had been transitioned since age three.

A thread by the same poster was gently referenced in which the mother had been expressing extreme gender disappointment with her third boy - the child in question.

My heart just broke for this poor, tiny boy. His mother was peppering the thread with smiley emojis, over the moon that she had her longed-for ‘daughter’ plus a handy helping of admiration from people telling her she was so brave and accepting and such an amazing parent. Whilst she was enacting what can only be described as awful abuse on this innocent child. Goodness knows what his life will be.

Also, Jazz Jennings parades on national tv aged 6 to be declared transgender before the world. That is horrendous parenting. Yet somehow, bizarrely, applauded. I can’t understand how this is allowed to happen to such young and vulnerable children.

Fekko · 07/02/2018 19:51

So ovarian cancer is cis privilege too then? Well, whoop de doop.

DearSergio · 07/02/2018 19:49

Reading a tweet which claimed having an abortion was " cis privilege " was my defining moment. It still chills me

rb67 · 07/02/2018 19:46
  1. the cancellation of next years Anarchist Book Fair.
  2. posting on a forum (closed unofficial Labour forum for Women's Officers) about the topic and someone replying "guess what we all start of female ...we all know your position now and I think the majority disagree. In the interest of the group it's probably time to let this go, it's damaging." (I stop posting as likely to get silly, that person posts again including that it is not the forum to discuss the issue - as far as I can tell nowhere is)
I have posted since and shared a couple of things today. I was not intimidated by the childish reply of this person but aware (I know myself well enough!!) that I could get sucked into debate that would do my head in too much and make me permanently pissed off. I also don't think the majority of the people on the forum agree with self id. I imagine a lot of people come here for some air!
terryleather · 07/02/2018 19:38

Cankles

I already eff and cee to Olympic standard but I agree that I'm doing it even more these days (if that's actually possible) and am glad I'm not alone!

Canklesofglitter · 07/02/2018 19:31

Lily fucking Madigan tipped me over the peak.

WTF does a boy in a dress possibly have to say about women's issues? You know like ACTUAL women's issues...maternity rights, VAT on sanitary products, finding out that the male heads of department I work with get paid more than me, the appalling lack of perinatal mental health support and breastfeeding support...where does it stop??

And then to start #nodebating people pointing out biological fact.

Fuck off Lily darling.

Has anyone else found that they're saying fuck an awful lot more now...?

Fekko · 07/02/2018 19:15

Some bloke in a beard and bad dress telling women in a refuge to suck his lady dick if they didn’t call him Beryl or something.

Reminds me of comic book guy in the Simpson’s for some reason.

Amethyst975 · 07/02/2018 19:13

I'm not 100% sure as I researched the movement quite intensively when I first realised the grip it had on our country.

It was probably the inevitable reliance on gender stereotypes, which I've always despised. Remove the tired old stereotypes from the equation and the whole ideology falls down like a house of cards.

UnimaginativeNameChange1 · 07/02/2018 19:12

Oh yeah. Biological men ruining women's sports. Don't know how those bastards can convince themselves their 'victory' means anything.

UnimaginativeNameChange1 · 07/02/2018 19:11

Mine was really minor. A good friend used the term 'cis' in conversation. I didn't know what it meant. I asked. She told me, and said I was a cis woman.

I am not a fucking cis woman. I don't know anyone who is a cis woman.

I am a woman, damn straight. That's a biological fact. I was born with XX chromosomes. But am I feminine? No, not often. I might look it to a casual observer, because I've basically found that life in my little town is a fuckload easier if I look a certain way and dress a certain way. But I do extremely unfeminine things every single day. Sometimes by choice and sometimes because I cannot help it. Pretty sure that almost everyone on the planet is actually somewhere in 'non-binary', really. And if it describes everyone, it describes no one. Gender is a pile of bollocks. Figuratively.

Ironically, being called 'cis' made me realise how much it must piss off transgender people when they get misgendered...

This thing about men being able to wander in to female spaces and not be made to leave was the cherry on the cake.
