I’m a woman.

Not a “cis woman”. Just a woman. Sometimes I wear makeup, sometimes I don’t. I can put the bins out and I can cook...sometimes I don’t fancy doing either.

I have opinions and I like to express them.

Stop taking posts down MNHQ!!! Let us speak, on the safe forum that is Mumsnet. That is all.

Let’s see how long this one stays up...

I AM A WOMAN
I was born and socialised as a girl. Thanks to my kick-ass mum I believed I could do anything a man could do. I became a doctor and for years was called “nurse” by patients and their relatives, with the assumption my male junior colleagues were senior to me.

I am small and not physically strong. I get nervous walking my dog where I live when it’s dark, even though I know there’s no one there.

I suffered an horrendous pregnancy, delivered a baby prematurely and connected myself up to a machine like a dairy cow 8 or more times a day for months to be able to give my child the breast milk he needed like the medicine being pumped through his veins and the oxygen into his incubator. I cried when he came home and I couldn’t then feed him myself.

I suffered severe complications in a second pregnancy which had to be terminated for my own physical and mental health. I had to watch myself bleed for days on end as i lost a much wanted pregnancy.

As wonderful as my husband is, he will never feel the pain I did through those things. He cannot feel like a woman because we are more than our feelings and a group of stereotypes.
I AM A WOMAN and I will not be silenced.

SmurfOrTerf · 04/02/2018 21:25

Milly there is a list of acronyms but I don't know where they've moved it to. But if you ask people will explain

Datun · 04/02/2018 21:25

millyminty

Here is a link to a thread about other acronyms (about this issue. If you want general mumsnet acronyms they are on the site somewhere, can't quite remember where, but they're there)

And an explanation of the basics.

I am a woman
I haven’t given birth or breastfed
I have short hair
I studied STEM subjects and worked in a traditionally male industry
I rarely wear make up or heels
I no longer have a uterus.

I am still a fucking woman. I may not perform femininity and I have not done many of the things women can do, but that makes me no less a woman.

The only thing that makes me a woman is the biology I was born with.

MissBeehiving · 04/02/2018 21:20

I am a woman.

I bleed and have been pregnant, miscarried, and given birth because I am a woman.

I have been assaulted and abused because I am a woman.

Sometimes my freedom to do what I want, when I want is restricted because I am a woman.

I have been discriminated against in my career because I am a woman.

I wear dresses, skirts and heels. I wear trousers. I wear makeup. None of that makes me a woman or a man.

SmurfOrTerf · 04/02/2018 21:20

Lana I did report someone on it for sock puppeting, so it is likely they had a ton of reports at the same time

millyminty · 04/02/2018 21:19

Thanks Humbygge

LanaKanesTerfyVagina · 04/02/2018 21:17

Whether you have or haven't given birth.

Whether you did or didn't BF.

Whether you wear dresses or combat trousers.

Whether you have ovaries/breasts/a womb or not

If you have XX chromosomes...

You are a woman.

If you have XY...you are a man.

Anything else is just window dressing.

That. Is. It.

thread about a thread

feminism and women's rights (what this board used to be called)

HuckfromScandal · 04/02/2018 21:12

I’m a woman
I like the fact that I am a woman
I have days where I wear trousers and no makeup, I’m not a man on these days.
I have days where I wear heals, do my hair and wear makeup, these are not days when I am more of a woman.

I have been pregnant
But I would be a woman even if I hadn’t been
I have given birth
But I would still be a woman if I hadn’t

I DO NOT HAVE A PENIS, I HAVE A VAGINA

LanaKanesTerfyVagina · 04/02/2018 21:10

Thanks for the reply Hebe

I cherish MN as one of the few remaining spaces where women can speak freely and honestly, and also the support for eg. women in abusive relationships.

I would be fucking gutted if it started censoring healthy debate.

millyminty · 04/02/2018 21:10

Fairly new here and getting confused by some terminology. Please would someone explain -
TAAT
FWR
Also is there a list of all abbreviations somewhere?Thx

MyOwnShed · 04/02/2018 21:10

I'm a woman. I own no skirts or dresses, have hairy legs, prefer mud to make up, used to play rugby and have two science degrees.

I have popped two babies out of my fanny and now pee a little when I sneeze. I've also seen my career suffer disproportionately due to being a mother and realised that I subconsciously make myself look big and tall when I'm walking out at night.

misscockerspaniel · 04/02/2018 21:09

I am a dog. Hear me howl

Ereshkigal · 04/02/2018 21:07

Me too. I can hardly concentrate on anything else. Have too keep looking here to see what happening

Yes, me too. I'm not sure I've ever been angrier about anything in my life, including my own abuse. It's cathartic in a way to get angry, but also deeply demoralising to see how little women matter and how ingrained misogyny is.

LanaKanesTerfyVagina · 04/02/2018 21:07

I know I can't, and I'm not the kind of person who thinks I have the right to other peoples private information

Buuuuuttt...

I'd be really interested to know if the reports came from either

a) Genuine MNers concerned about feeding a troll

or
b) TRAs/ handmaidens

Because the incredibly cynical me thinks that it was the latter.

The hopeful me want's it to be the former, though I still think it was wrong to delete it.

AreYouOrHaveYouEverBeenATERF · 04/02/2018 21:05

Thanks HebeMumsnet

Gawd - if we can't talk about it on Mumsnet, where can we?

Ekphrasis · 04/02/2018 21:04

I am a woman.

I know as I feel the kicks inside me from my second child.

And my vuval varicose veins are killing me.

I've breastfed a child for 3.5 years (not sure how that happened).

And I like sci fi.
I'm not afraid of spiders or rats or bats.
I like make up but I hate shaving my legs.

I love trousers and jeans but have to wear tunics/ dresses as the spd from my first pregnancy never fully went away.

Justabunchofcunts · 04/02/2018 21:03

Thanks mumsnet. Have loved mumsnet for a long time but only realised the bigger value of a space like this recently. Suspect I am not the only one.

GoodyHumbygge · 04/02/2018 21:03

I was a Spartacus before and I am Spartacus still.

There is no such thing as a female penis.

I, as a woman, am more than a feeling in a man's head.

Womanhood is material reality, not ethereal identity.

NauticalDisaster · 04/02/2018 21:01

I am not Spartacus, he is an alleged rapist and I do no align myself with that.

I am a women though and mightily pissed off.

Sometimes, when a FWR has an influx of GFs/MRAs/TRAs, it is good to let us blow off steam. Humour helps. The taataataataataat was humouring us, it should have stood.

🎶 we're not gonna take it, no we ain't take it 🎶

wiccamum · 04/02/2018 21:00

I am a woman

This is an entirely independent thread.

I like to wear dresses, but not heels. I breastfed my dd, but only managed 6 months when I wanted to do it for 12.

I get menstrual headaches mid-cycle. And I talk to my dogs in a mockney accent because I think they like it.

I am angry and sad. I feel threatened often.

BonjourMinou · 04/02/2018 20:55

I am a woman.
A human being no less different or capable than any man.

I know i'm a woman because i happen to have been born with a uterus and ovaries, a vulva and a vagina.

I have grown and breastfed 2 babies, i am currently gestating a third.

Woman is a biological reality. A fact. That's it. Not a feeling to be identified into.

I am spartacus and i am angry!

HebeMumsnet · 04/02/2018 20:53

Evening everyone. Just popping by to reassure you that the last thing we want to do is silence anyone. We always try to allow debate to flow freely here.

We do currently have a thread taken down temporarily as it had a landslide of reports and we felt we needed to hit the pause button while we went through them and looked at the whole thread more carefully - we promise there's nothing sinister going on there though. We do sometimes do this to this just to give us time to look through reports.

We will have to delete any TAATs we're afraid but as long as that's not happening and folk are posting within Talk Guidelines we've no concerns at all.
