Yep not my fav mp like david tc davis. But its a foot into door to stop gra and get a debate.

UpABitLate · 03/02/2018 11:42

Nadine Dorries is awful isn't she?

With friends like these...

This is all terribly difficult for dyed in the wool lefties.

UpABitLate · 03/02/2018 11:41

I don't believe that a transman would be comfortable using a tampon machine in the gents, would they?

For a number of reasons.

Have transmen said they want tampon machines installed in gents toilets?

Anlaf · 03/02/2018 11:41

Indeed! Bex is now arguing with some of the radfem twitterers. Surely time that could be productively spent advocating for the comfort and representation of transmen in public life.

Perhaps Bex struggles to concentrate on work tasks? I know the bloody feeling, am technically working on my business but actually, clearly on MN

ShutUpLegs · 03/02/2018 11:41

Well, I have just posted this on my FB feed. First full foray. It will be worth it.

RedToothBrush · 03/02/2018 11:40

A journalist who believes facts are sacred. Thank you Janice.

RedToothBrush · 03/02/2018 11:37

Tory MP Nadine Dorries appears to have peaked in the last hour....

Nadine Dorries @ nadinedorries
From @VictoriaPeckham in @thetimes Not all women have a vagina.

Bravo Janice Turner!
AngryAttackKittens · 03/02/2018 11:35

Let's say that in theory Stonewall persuaded every establishment to install a tampon machine in the men's toilets. How comfortable would trans men feel walking up to the machine and buying one with random men around? No use having the machines if nobody uses them.

Datun · 03/02/2018 11:34

, if you’ll finally let us be, then maybe we can talk about tampons in men’s toilets. Ffs.

Lol. Go on then, Bex. You've got fingers, eyes and a keyboard.

Should take you about four seconds. Starting now!

hipsterfun · 03/02/2018 11:31

They are mindful of women’s privacy, aware as one wrote that “at 6ft 4in in heels I know I’d be alarming in changing rooms”. They long only to live peaceful, honourable lives.

Not all women are 5’3” (UK average). I’m a woman and not far off 6’4” in heels myself. It’s not height that’s the issue; the issue is male people in female people’s spaces.

That aside, good article.

Anlaf · 03/02/2018 11:25

Bex Stinson (Head of Trans Inclusion at Stonewall) has tweet-responded to this. Apparently hysterical journalists like Janice are preventing Bex from even being able to get around to talking about transmen:

We want men’s issues to be inclusive of trans guys, and of non-binary experiences. But can we get this?? No. Because of the frenzied attack against trans women. If we get chance to breathe, if you’ll finally let us be, then maybe we can talk about tampons in men’s toilets. Ffs.

FFS indeed. Might try the "hysterical female journalists stopped me" if I ever get pulled up for not doing half my job.

MyOwnShed · 03/02/2018 11:24

Great article all round.

Catsrus · 03/02/2018 11:24

I'm on the brink of a Times subscription too. Fantastic article and very appropriate analogy, thank you JT!

AngryAttackKittens · 03/02/2018 11:04

Overly demanding fairies were clearly the mosquitos of the fantasy universe from my Wednesday Addams-like childhood perspective.

Gacapa · 03/02/2018 11:02

Thank you, thank you, thank you Janice. Magnificent work.

WichBitchHarpyTerfThatsMe · 03/02/2018 10:59

Brilliantly cogent and concise argument. Thank you JT.

ChattyLion · 03/02/2018 10:55

LOL Kittens
Even as a kid I always found that Peter Pan emotional blackmail really creepy!

SchrodingersFrilledLizard · 03/02/2018 10:55

Thank you, cunningoperative and bambambini for sharing the article.

Bravo, Janice Turner. Excellent article. The comments are rubbish but, in the long run, it's the article that counts.

I am seriously thinking of becoming a Times subscriber and more articles like this will help me to decide to do so. The Guardian and The Observer, on the other hand, cannot die a painful flaming financial death soon enough.

LongCoat · 03/02/2018 10:51

AR didn't do her job and it now looks like LP is being lined up as the new leader once JC goes.

frogsoup · 03/02/2018 10:47

This is awesome. Just deciding whether I am brave enough to face the shitstorm by sharing on Facebook...my friends are at least 30% social justice warriors for whom this stuff is absolutely dogma. I also have one trans friend and don't want this to be the end of a friendship.

ICJump · 03/02/2018 10:46

Atalittlebitofbutter nice observersation on the baby wearing front. I’ve stepped away from it because it’s just full of SJW banging on about not triggering anyone.

LangCleg · 03/02/2018 10:41

Fab. That last line is a bit of an 'I'm Spartacus' moment. She is very brave.

It so is! I wish A Woman's Place would invite Janice to speak at one of their events.

AngryAttackKittens · 03/02/2018 10:38

Has anyone seen Turner speak publicly, and does she come across as well as she does in print?

Lottapianos · 03/02/2018 10:37

'Janice needs to go on something like Loose Women to put this cool, measured thinking right out there into the mainstream.'

Great idea. Get the message out there to a much wider audience who would never pick up the Times
