This IS really significant. Margot James MP is senior in the party (and also a lesbian) and for her to be openly gender critical is really important.

MyOwnShed · 03/02/2018 22:35

You know when you get moments where you feel you're living through events and arguements that will be written up in history and sociology dissertations of students of years to come, feels like that. For an MP to be retweeting feels like a big thing.

Quickchange1 · 03/02/2018 21:43

Brilliant ... so glad I've read this. I now need to memorize all her eloquent points so I can argue my point more succinctly. I have to be careful as I'm a secondary school teacher.

Spinachsucks · 03/02/2018 21:39

Tweet comment with the article says:
Margot James MP
Words of warning that should be heard beyond the Labour Party @VictoriaPeckham
Labour’s purge of the trans‑rights heretics

Spinachsucks · 03/02/2018 21:38

This Tory MP has put her head above the parapet and retweeted the link to Janice Turner's article. Link below in case anyone wants to let her know it's appreciated, it matters to women, and the issue will massively affect how we vote: mobile.twitter.com/margot_james_mp/status/959696278706905089?ref_src=twcamp%5Eshare%7Ctwsrc%5Eios%7Ctwgr%5Ecom.apple.UIKit.activity.Message

On twitter today they were making a song and dance about how terrifying they found Janice Turner Hmm

OlennasWimple · 03/02/2018 21:30

Bex Stinson is a transwoman, lawyer and peddler of outrageous assertions on the rate of trans suicides and likelihood of being murdered Angry

Geronimoleapinglizards · 03/02/2018 21:26

Ah. Well I was fooled.

I thought she was a lesbian who'd drunk the kool aid.

nauticant · 03/02/2018 21:08

The first I'd ever heard of Bex Stinson was their endless tweeting over Janice Turner's article today. Reading their tweets, I didn't for one second think they might be a woman.

TallulahWaitingInTheRain · 03/02/2018 21:02

Bex Stinson is trans

Geronimoleapinglizards · 03/02/2018 20:52

Um, is Bex Stinson a trans woman? I've been assuming she's a gay woman. I'm totally confused.

SeraphinaDombegh · 03/02/2018 20:24

Very good indeed. So clearly explained and written. I've actually gone and shared it on FB. Bit nervous now. First time I've publicly stuck my head over the parapet.

TallulahWaitingInTheRain · 03/02/2018 20:10

What OvaHere said

ShotsFired · 03/02/2018 20:07

My Tory MP is completely against the whole concept.
I think this is more to do with the fact that he is old-Tory and so dislikes those funny queer types more than he dislikes women getting above their station. So supporting us is the lesser of two evils! (fine by me in this case)

I have something of a dialogue with him, in that I have communicated twice about this, and I will continue to do so. In turn he will continue tell me he is not supporting GRA.

Trueheart1 · 03/02/2018 20:01

Ovahere good point, well written.

Stopmakingsense · 03/02/2018 19:45

My Tory (v centrist MP) responded really well to my letter. Said he took so long to reply because he needed time to reflect and think about the unintended consequences of self -ID which simply hadn't crossed his mind before my letter. So yes do write to your MP otherwise there is no chance.

OvaHere · 03/02/2018 19:44

As long as there is discussion and voting for what the crowdfunded money is used for (and I think JJ has been transparent about that thus far) then I'm not overly concerned about her personal politics.

This affects all women of all political affiliations and beliefs, many whom I won't agree with or necessarily even like but if there was ever a time for solidarity of sisterhood this it.

We are even fighting for the rights of those women who denounce us as transphobes and I don't care if they never thank us for it or come to any realisation of what they almost lost. I'll just be happy if we retain a level of safety for them and the right to call themselves women.

SwearyG · 03/02/2018 19:39

I think JJ has a point re newspapers. The Telegraph commissioned a report on the pros and cons of remaining in the EU or leaving it, which comprehensively came down on the side of remain. They campaigned for leave because that’s what the owners wanted to push.

KayaG · 03/02/2018 19:32

Hurrah!

Trueheart1 · 03/02/2018 19:31

Empressofjur : That comment does make JJ sound a little unbalanced. I am also starting to get worried. I thought she was leading the rebellion. It is becoming apparent that her politics are a little more batshit complex than I thought.

JJs and Venice Allen's attitudes to Jeremy Corbyn reminds me of someone in an abusive relationship, always making excuses for why their partner treats them so badly.

thebewilderness · 03/02/2018 19:31

Nothing gets a politicians attention more effectively than a dramatic increase in snail mail.

OlennasWimple · 03/02/2018 19:28

Those JJ tweets are a bit concerning, aren't they?

LangCleg · 03/02/2018 19:10

hackmum - seriously, do write again. I have a Tory MP. The first time I wrote, I got a boilerplate fluff letter back. The second time, I got "we're not proposing to change the Equality Act any more, honest". The Tory standard response is changing. I'll be writing again as soon as there is some new outrage (such as Marie Dean) I can use as an excuse. I've also got my dad and two friends to write.

Balearica · 03/02/2018 18:46

Yes the quality of Janice Turner's writing is a key reason for my Times subscription too. I hope they read MN!
