''100 years on since the first women got the vote, there are still inequalities in the feminist movement. Why are some feminists still failing transwomen?

The evidence is there if you look for it – Transphobic leaflets being given out in the safe zone at Labour annual conference; prominent party feminists suggesting violence against transwomen; someone being kicked out of a Labour Women’s Network party for harassing a teenage trans woman; fundraisers being started to try and legally challenge Labours trans-inclusive policies; transwomen being excluded from Labour run women’s events by a women’s officer. The list goes on.

Most state their actions aren’t transphobic at all, but they are merely seeking the protection of women’s spaces. Some go further, suggesting transwomen are men’s right activists working purposely to erode women’s hard won protects. They commonly misgender people like me as a means to belittle our experiences and score social media points. And so I think its fair we question how much authority they have as cis-women to decide whether they are being transphobic.''

It continues in this vein.

I don't know whether Lily published that of their own volition.

I sincerely hope it hasn't been sanctioned by anyone who can actually read.

The rage over being thwarted is palpable. Coming across loud and clear from every line

It really does read like some adolescent 'ganging up' strategy.

I honestly can't be bothered to address it all, but lying seems to be a default position.

Which is difficult to comprehend, given Lily talks on a public platform, to the public, who can all read for themselves.

Studies suggest near half of transexual youth will attempt suicide,

Studies suggest nothing of the kind. They have been numerous articles about it.

And yet again this juvenile, wholly irresponsible promotion of suicide as leverage.

and seek to present me in an unfair light, often pushing lies as fact and allowing me no comment

Lily will block people on their 'public forum - where they are allowed to comment any time day or night' before the person has actually engaged with them, because Lily uses a block list.

If you do ask Lily to comment you will be instantly blocked.

Again, not something that's exactly a secret!

It’s great so many people are joining up to Labour, attracting many people who previously wouldn’t have found a home in the party.

Said the 5000 people who cancelled their subscriptions last week.

I can't believe the Labour Party are aware of this article.

It's making them look like an absolute laughing stock.

back

I like that article - informative for those new to this alternative reality, but readable too. Especially enjoyed this:

“Jeremy Corbyn, who self-identifies as a future prime minister”

AdalindSchade · 01/02/2018 08:09

Nobody is belittling Liam's experiences. We are just correctly describing them as the experiences of a boy and young man.

WiseUpJanetWeiss · 01/02/2018 08:02

Thanks Stopmakingsense, that’s a very thought provoking article.

stoneagefertilitydoll · 01/02/2018 07:58

They commonly misgender people like me as a means to belittle our experiences

Or, you know, because that's how English works.... female == she, male == he.

Fekko · 01/02/2018 07:49

Has there been a counter to her article? (Who gives a bloody kid column inches??? Pandering pandering pandering).

ShotsFired · 01/02/2018 07:47

They commonly misgender people like me as a means to belittle our experiences

That would be your experiences of living and being socialised as a young boy, a teenage boy and now a teenage trans woman?

Pray tell me how you have experienced life as we have so you feel qualified to tell me what it's like.

LostSight · 01/02/2018 07:41

Glad to see Lily is concentrating on getting more women into the Labour Party!

Stopmakingsense · 01/02/2018 07:35

Quote:
Here's one: "You are a member of marginalized identity group Y; anyone who notices facts that could be construed to call this narrative into question is thereby hurting you by invalidating your identity."

A human who has accepted—who has been taken hostage by—this idea, will feel genuine pain and distress whenever anyone notices facts that could be construed to call the narrative into question. And so the human's friends, who love and care about them, will dutifully make sure to pretend not to notice any inconvenient facts, and socially punish anyone who doesn't pretend not to notice, in order to avoid hurting their friend.

Just like they would pay the ransom if their friend were kidnapped by terrorists.

And with no one willing to mention any inconvenient facts for fear of being socially punished, the meme spreads

Stopmakingsense · 01/02/2018 07:32

Here's a good article written by an AGP transwoman which describes why Labour (and the world) is falling for this, LM is a prime example:

unremediatedgender.space/2018/Jan/dont-negotiate-with-terrorist-memeplexes/

AdalindSchade · 01/02/2018 07:19

He's fallen out with his parents to nobody's surprise.

This is so pathetic. He's a liar and a self obsessed delusional fool. He has a MASSIVE platform for someone so inexperienced and uninteresting.

backaftera2yearbreak · 01/02/2018 07:14

Here’s a nice article from the Edinburgh evening news bit.ly/2GCxHlW

NaturalWoman · 01/02/2018 07:01

Where are his parents in all this? I mean, I know he's a big boy of 19 now and getting to grips with the adult world, but surely they should have some sort of role in guiding him.

Traffig · 01/02/2018 06:46

Now I am going to spend all day looking as if I have swallowed a wasp*.Angry

Pah! to Corbyn suggesting (Andrew Marr show) that Linda Bellos comes to "talk" with him.
Big boys pants on Corbyn and seek her out and LISTEN to her and ACT upon her advice..

*(Not WASPI... < already self identified as)

Collidascope · 01/02/2018 06:43

"Some go further, suggesting transwomen are men’s right activists working purposely to erode women’s hard won protects."

Madigan:
Makes jokes about rape and Jimmy Saville
Whinges about men not being allowed to do Race for Life
Decides he's a woman, hounds women who disagree with him and takes positions that should be occupied by women
Consequently ignores all women's issues and focusses solely on things affecting TIMs.

iamawoman · 01/02/2018 06:32

Its all about trans.........
Labour womens officer is no platforming women

Sevendown · 01/02/2018 06:20

Men silencing women

Nothing’s changed

athingthateveryoneneeds · 01/02/2018 06:13

Lily protesteth too much.

The more this is spoken about and discussed and debated, the better. Lily, you aren't helping your cause, ducky. You sound ridiculous in this article. 🎻

ChattyLion · 01/02/2018 06:02

Whoops I meant ‘Lily’ not ‘List’ in my post above.

The link to British social attitudes survey referred in the blog is here: www.bsa.natcen.ac.uk/media/39147/bsa34_moral_issues_final.pdf
See p.14. It is an interesting read.

The survey commentary implies prejudice = women being uncomfortable to have transwomen in female toilets. So it’s not a nuanced analysis, nor were the BSA survey questions. They asked women:

’Please think about a transgender woman - that is a man who has gone through all or part of a process to become a woman. How comfortable or uncomfortable would you be for a transgender woman to use female public toilets?’
Grin just a few assumptions in that question.

The survey also didn’t ask about what self identification as a legal right would make very easy in terms of men accessing women’s private spaces.

I can imagine a greater proportion of ‘prejudice’ Hmm would come out if women had been asked how comfortable they were with the prospect of womens’ public or school toilets/changing rooms/prison cells/wherever being open to eg ’men who identified as women with no other process involved.’

12stars · 01/02/2018 05:40

prominent party feminists suggesting violence against transwomen
This is really interesting. I heard the radio interview mentioned a couple of postS ago where LM wouldn't debate with LB. The reason given was that LB had threatened violence. LB said the violence comment was about how she would use violence in self defence and was deliberately and disingenuously taken out of context by LM and presented as a threat to all trans women.

Traffig · 01/02/2018 05:39

I only got up early because I was having a hot flush, and now I've got steam coming out of my ears.Angry

What the fecking feck shitting shit? Why is this Madigan character allowed to write such piss poor below standard bollocks?

(I don't do many commas at 5.30 a.m.)

cista · 01/02/2018 05:28

He is his own parody. I feel slightly bad for him as the mistakes he's making now are going to haunt him for life...

LefkosiaTigers · 01/02/2018 05:20

This all reads as "feminists are meanies, but anyway, PAY ME MORE ATTENTION!

ChattyLion · 01/02/2018 05:01

List tweets a awful lot for someone with no right of reply. But about that,Is this not the same Lily who was invited on radio 4 world at 1 this week, then refused to debate with Linda Bellos?

So here’s a link to the BSA survey which asked:

Collidascope · 01/02/2018 04:09

Oh and the whole "they debate our right to exist?" No! They debate the validity of your views and your right to inflict your views on everyone else. I don't hold any religious beliefs thus I don't believe Jews are "the chosen people" or that Christians will go to heaven. That doesn't mean I don't believe Jews or Christians exist... They don't vanish in a puff of smoke because I don't agree with them on something 🙄
