Feminism: Sex and gender discussions

Is Transgenderism just the natural progression from perceived equality?

Bear with me, I’ve had a shit of a day so this might be garbled.

I reached peak trans a good few years ago now, mainly thanks to the wonderful women here but also through becoming aware of the differences between the ‘old school’ transexuals (who just wanted to approximate womanhood and largely get on with their lives) and the new cohort of Transgenders, made up (as far as I have seen) of middle aged AGPs and narcissistic millennials.

It occurred to me earlier that this latest push to actually appropriate our spaces, our sexuality, our experiences etc its likely a backlash to the fact that for the first time ever we were approaching something like equality. There was an awful twitter thread earlier (piers Morgan) where so many people were decrying feminism as man hating harpies wanting, not equality, but dominion over men.

I’m convinced now that this whole travesty is simply a push back. We’ve taken too much, we’re dangerously close to mattering, so the men are taking it all back. The women who complain about this are dismissed as vile hateful TERFs because how fucking dare we moan about the men taking back what was theirs all along.

I’m starting to feel that we’re fucked no matter what we do. I’m still fighting because this is the hill I will die on but it’s fucking relentless.

COINTELPRO was the last time we saw anything like this

OMG, Kitten. I feel a bit sick. You are SO right.

AngryAttackKittens · 01/02/2018 09:01

They assume someone must have checked it out to make sure it actually makes sense.

There have been multiple posters like that here, insisting that things that have already happened will never happen because sensible people wouldn't let them. I'm never sure if it's the go along and fake it till you make it thing or if they're lying to support a very knowing agenda. Depends on the person probably.

This is 100% backlash. It's not an accident that MRAs are deeply embedded in trans activism. The attempt to sell porn and prostitution as "empowering" is part of the same backlash. COINTELPRO was the last time we saw anything like this.

LangCleg · 01/02/2018 08:53

They are as outraged as anyone else at who they are being lumped with, who decades ago would just be seen as gay men who dress up occasionally.

They are going to have to speak up then. I'm having the same conversation with the trans people I know.

I realise speaking up is not easy. So do women, who are being threatened, stalked, doxxed, reported to employers and even punched in the street.

If the silent majority of trans people are really against all this then they are going to have to make themselves heard if they don't want to be lumped in with it. Because women are in an existential fight.

thebewilderness · 01/02/2018 05:14

I think it is the result of 40 years of backlash and post modernism that has been moving us from governing based on material reality to governing based on beliefs that no one actually believes.
There have been periods in history where women were methodically erased from the written record in order to support men's beliefs. We are living in one of those times.

BigDeskBob · 01/02/2018 04:57

"They are as outraged as anyone else at who they are being lumped with"

But are they doing anything about it? Or are they just taking advantage of the progress made by activists. For example, are they making a stand and using male facilities, not female ones?

UpstartCrow · 01/02/2018 00:13

I think a thread with this type of information would be useful.

BarrackerBarmer · 01/02/2018 00:02

I'm off on a psychology reading spree now, thanks to Upstart. Reading about Foot in the Door technique to maximise compliance...seems relevant to how we've found ourselves apparently so far along in complying with an ideology like this:

UpstartCrow · 31/01/2018 23:54

I love that book!

mummybear701 · 31/01/2018 23:49

The 'old school' still exist. I personally know at least two just completing full physical transition, who I would never question their motives of transitioning. They are as outraged as anyone else at who they are being lumped with, who decades ago would just be seen as gay men who dress up occasionally. Then there will be those mid transition or only wanting partial medical changes. Nothing simplistic about the issue.

Great post Upstart.
Your link led me onto another complete GEM. I'd never heard of "How to be a non-conformist" by Elissa Jane Karg. Its the most wonderful, enchanting and witty little book, written and illustrated by a brilliant 16 year old girl in 1968. It's quite astonishing and lovely.

The Milgram experiment and other similar experiments, shows that many people will harm someone else if ordered to, and pretend 2+2=5, if they think thats whats expected.

If an agenda is presented as the view of authority, people will go along with it even if they don't understand it. They assume someone must have checked it out to make sure it actually makes sense.
That's why I'm so disappointed with the politicians going along with Gender Self ID, and presenting it as a done deal.

The Asch conformity experiments show it only takes one person in a group to act sensibly to give others permission to do the same.

I came to this precise conclusion after a very successful discussion with a friend who was completely clueless to all this. So I did my best to show her all of the complex and far reaching implications of a seemingly simple and 'progressive' change.

I was thrilled that despite her being a massive liberal lefty, she totally got the point.

And then we pondered on the 'why' and decided, yes, it's The Men deciding the wimmin have got too uppity and it's time to get back in our box Angry

Trans WOMEN. They do whine though...

OP posts:
AnachronisticCorpse · 31/01/2018 22:46

Eggson, that’s just it though. They aren’t chopping off their balls.

This is literally men saying they are women in order to gain access to women only shortlists, refuges, services.

It’s apparently transphobic to say that trans wines should have surgery or take hormones. Penises are now female and if you disagree you are a bigot.

cromeyellow0 · 31/01/2018 22:46

EggsonHeads Very few of the current crop are chopping off their genitalia!

UpstartCrow · 31/01/2018 22:42

EggsonHeads Surgery is not a requirement, it never has been, and most men dont have it.

EggsonHeads · 31/01/2018 22:41

I doubt it. Do you really think that there are men out there who think "The damn women have it too good. I'm going to go chop off my balls tobget my own back!"?

BarrackerBarmer · 31/01/2018 22:34

Misogyny is inventive.

We won't fix it all in our lifetime. Each generation of women claws their way further onwards, for their daughters. And sometimes ground is lost, heartbreakingly, when men decide on a concerted backlash.
I can never forget those images of the women protesting the hijab before the Iranian Revolution, or the photos of women in Afghanistan in miniskirts in the sixties. Things can go backwards, hard, and fast.
I tell myself that we don't have religion embedded in the UK in the same way as do those countries, that it is so unlikely we'll go that way, and this much is probably true. But what we have here, now, is the religion that people don't call a religion. We won't be subdued with obvious symbols of oppression like headcoverings or rules about chaperones. This is cleverer and covert. This new religion is the one of invisible identities that have rights attached, and women who have achieved as much as should have ever been allowed.

This new religion is well funded, and popular, and confusing, and illogical, with severe consequences for non-believers, and it is pushed by men, and cheered along by women who assume that they're supposed to get it, but don't really, and assume no doubt that means they are really dreadful people, heathens, and so they'll stay on message, recite the catechism, fake it until they make it.

I am certain it won't last, because no society can sustain a lie this big, for too long. And I take comfort from the fact that women ARE half the world, and we can vote, and we can organise, and we still speak out, even when we get punished for it. And we don't need to convince everybody. It will be enough to build a critical mass of people that this consumerist world we live in will start to fear pissing us off too much.

This is the fight for our generation. This is the hand women of our generation have been dealt. We'll handle it, as women always have handled men hating them. It will pass, eventually.

UpstartCrow · 31/01/2018 22:15

rowdywoman1 Thats really disturbing. Its also written more coherently than any of the other stuff put out by the main pro trans groups.
The speed with which its been taken up, and the way politicians give way to it, suggests there's a group behind the scenes that has a lot of power and an agenda.

PencilsInSpace · 31/01/2018 22:11

I was watching the earlier. Jen believes the current surge in trans identifying young people is due to the increasing hypersexualisation of women and girls.

For boys, it's presented as such a desirable thing that some want to be it. For girls, they realise they can't live up to it so some come to believe they must be boys.

rowdywoman1 · 31/01/2018 22:09

I have realised that this is far more 'planned ' than is apparent. I've been wondering how on earth trans pressure groups had been given unparalleled access to schools by the DfE - and then I was shown this:

www.opensocietyfoundations.org/sites/default/files/lgr_trans-children-youth-20151120.pdf

Although the misogyny is well disguised it certainly shows the extent of a well funded and planned obliteration of women's and children's rights by ... who??
