Here's my post replying to Moth
Thats an interesting article moth. Best not on the board or MRAs would be all over it!
I was wondering today, hopefully, if the news about darts getting rid of the girls means the overton window is shifting and maybe p0rn will become less acceptable?
If not all this hooha about F1 girls and the presidents club is just tinkering on the edges.

Excellent point, Tallulah.

Discrimination seems straightforward to identify, challenge and legislate against. Oppression - is much more structural, and ‘unseen’?

TallulahWaitingInTheRain · 04/02/2018 09:32

*1. The gender-conforming hierarchy is the one which discriminates against trans ppl.

  1. The sex hierarchy is the one which discriminates against women.
Lesbians, trans men.. and rad fems to some extent.. are doubly oppressed: situated in the bottom tier of both hierarchies.*

Yes ... although I think there's an important distinction to be drawn between oppression and discrimination. Gnc people are discriminated against, women are oppressed (i.e., exploited as a resource)

YetAnotherSpartacus · 04/02/2018 09:31

I can't be arsed PMing them back. They are a regular poster and sometimes plopper. I filed them under insignificant and will block them.

In short, I made a comment that could have been interpreted as a dig at the OPs grammar, but was actually a sarcastic comment about the trans-centric organisers of the women's march. I apologies and said I hoped I had not offended anybody and that PM popped into my box.

It's no big deal, I was just a bit surprised that's all...

Cwenthryth · 04/02/2018 08:17

YetAnotherSpartacus I don’t get it - are they saying they were being transphobic (and therefore offensive?).

I didn’t realise people really engaged in PMs on here.

Cwenthryth · 04/02/2018 08:14

Fell asleep wine in hand binge-watching Victoria - I know it’s hopelessly inaccurate in historical terms, but fun. And I enjoyed this exchange between the queen and the duke of wellington, perfectly describing privelige:
“I was not aware that you were fighting a war, Ma'am.”
“Because you are not a young woman, Duke, and no-one, I suspect, tells you what to do.
But I have to prove my worth every single day.”

Thanks for the Amy Newton recommendation - not heard her before but she’s blowing the cobwebs away quite nicely this morning!

I go back and forth on how I’m feeling about Jennifer James, she’s making some very important waves but seems so unshakably convinced that Corbyn will see sense. However good tweet from her this morning

Especially this bit:
^1. The gender-conforming hierarchy is the one which discriminates against trans ppl.

  1. The sex hierarchy is the one which discriminates against women.
Lesbians, trans men.. and rad fems to some extent.. are doubly oppressed: situated in the bottom tier of both hierarchies.^

It seems to make so much sense, when you accurately separate gender and sex.

TheButterflyOfTheStorms · 04/02/2018 01:29

Oooooo. PM them back and find out if they will explain what a woman is.

YetAnotherSpartacus · 04/02/2018 00:48

It was nothing major - but it did surprise me a little

Bluestocking lock in!
AssignedPuuurfectAtBirth · 04/02/2018 00:46

No, but do tell yet

UpstartCrow · 04/02/2018 00:45

No... (trying not to be intrigued)

YetAnotherSpartacus · 04/02/2018 00:42

Has anyone else received any rather odd PMs over the women's march and Rose threads?

AssignedPuuurfectAtBirth · 03/02/2018 23:11

Will def try terry.

TallulahWaitingInTheRain · 03/02/2018 21:53

Gin mamaryllis

And solidarity. It's weird and it's boggling and it's definitely not just sour grapes on your part.

QuentinSummers · 03/02/2018 21:48

cwenthryth you could try Amy Newton? Seen her supporting reef and she kicked butt. Very talented woman.

And now I have to google dark and stormy too...

mamaryllis · 03/02/2018 21:39

Gin is a good idea. I just feel completely flat. And I absolutely can’t talk about it IRL for obvious reasons. I actually didn’t go to the ‘meet the candidates’ sessions (already hampered playing a full part with kid stuff going on) so it may absolutely have been the right choice, despite the, er, academic. But I can’t make it add up in my head. For nearly thirty years I’ve been trying to get back to academia, and weirdly now I’ve come face to face with the reality that either a - it wasn’t necessary at all, who needs the qualifications anyway, or b - sorry, white women need not apply.
I know realistically that b isn’t the case (there clearly will be white female profs hired Grin) and I know that if an extremely talented competitor gets the job, that is right and all’s well. But. Still weirdly boggled. I can’t move for virtue-signalling and glee about diversity. Diversity is great - we NEED diversity ffs. So I just feel really stupid and mealy mouthed about the whole thing. But I feel the same way I did when Caitlin Jenner got woman of the year.
Am I literally just chewing on sour grapes? Jeez.

Cwenthryth · 03/02/2018 21:13

Just googled Dark & Stormy - sounds just the ticket. Would like to try it with Crabbie’s for some extra punchGrin

I really am feeling very maudlin about everything this evening. It seems like there is no good news in the world.

Need to find some kickass female-led rock to boost the spirits and remind me its not all bad. Any suggestions?

terryleather · 03/02/2018 20:32

I want everyone else's dinners!!!(stamps foot)

mamaryllis I recommend a Dark & Stormy, they certainly take the edge of all the shit Thanks

HairyBallTheorem · 03/02/2018 20:29

Offers mamaryllis a stiff gin.

I have had a rather yummy stir fry with oodles of garlic and teryaki sauce.

terryleather · 03/02/2018 20:28

Whizz 4 salmon fillets, 1 egg white, 2 tbsp capers, 1 peeled shallot, 65g fresh breadcrumbs with salt & pepper in a food processor, shape into 4 burgers & pan fry in olive oil until cooked through.

ISaySteadyOn · 03/02/2018 19:48

amaryllis, Flowers. That sounds really hard.

AssignedPuuurfectAtBirth · 03/02/2018 19:33

So sorry mamaryllis, I missed your post.

Fucks sake. Can you say more? Flowers to you.

AssignedPuuurfectAtBirth · 03/02/2018 19:25

TallulahWaitingInTheRain · 03/02/2018 19:17

My sense is they are starting to sound increasingly shrill and ridiculous. They're running out of arguments. Or is it just me running out of patience?

Anyway cheers Wine! Your dinners sound fantastic. I'm having soup Envy
