Here's my post replying to Moth
Thats an interesting article moth. Best not on the board or MRAs would be all over it!
I was wondering today, hopefully, if the news about darts getting rid of the girls means the overton window is shifting and maybe p0rn will become less acceptable?
If not all this hooha about F1 girls and the presidents club is just tinkering on the edges.

It's kind of anti everyone!

SpringNowPlease2018 · 09/04/2018 20:05

Sorry, I think I'm just massively confused to find someone saying that film isn't anti women but okay, I haven't seen it.

SpringNowPlease2018 · 09/04/2018 20:04

Do you mean misogynistic rather than anti feminist?

Those teen movies often are ragingly misigynistic aren't they?

QuentinSummers · 09/04/2018 19:08

I've just been googling and it looks like a pretty antifeminist film Grin
Not sure what mainstream feminist films there are actually. Off for another google

Accidental filming of a woman getting undressed for the purpose of a film "laugh" wouldn't make it any better tbh.

QuentinSummers · 09/04/2018 18:03

Err not really from what I can remember. It's more accidental

OP posts:
SpringNowPlease2018 · 09/04/2018 17:22

isn't one of the characters secretly filming a girl getting undressed?

QuentinSummers · 09/04/2018 16:53

Nah I don't think so. It's a long time since I watched it but it's just puerile.
I have a bit of a soft spot because the boys are all after a bible of how to be a sex God which is basically how to go down on a woman. I like it that sex God is synonymous with women's pleasure in the film.

SpringNowPlease2018 · 09/04/2018 12:27

Quentin, I just looked it up...it sounds horrendously misogynistic to me.

QuentinSummers · 07/04/2018 12:46

American pie is good! Puerile but not laddish

SpringNowPlease2018 · 07/04/2018 10:18

sorry you're having a hard time Quentin.

I was just reading Molly Ringwald's take on the Breakfast Club now. There are definitely films i saw early teens that I couldn't watch again in spite of seeing the fundamental skill in the screenwriting.

also I remember at school people kept telling me to watch Catholic Boys. Ugh, that depiction of boys. Never watched American Pie and all that because it seems obvious from the trailers that ...just...no.

QuentinSummers · 06/04/2018 21:52

Thank you. You are all so lovely Flowers

Thank you, I have read it Quentin. xH ticks 13 of the 16 boxes on the ‘Clues’ list at least. I clearly had a very rusty shark cage. But then I want to know where are the articles telling guys not to be sharks, how not to breach boundaries, how to respect women? I want to live in a world where shark cages are not necessary, or where the sharks are caged. But then I guess if you can keep the sharks out, your world is shark-free at an individual level at least. What a lovely thought. I will read and re-read.

I hope you feel a bit better soon Quentin

My DH is not abusive but the bit about depersonalisation just rang huge bells

OP posts:
Katara · 05/04/2018 21:21

I have not read the article, can you point me in the right direction?

I dissociate, but in response to talking about or dealing with very specific events, which may be different. I hope the therapy helps, in the meantime, be gentle with yourself.

Freshlylaidterf · 05/04/2018 20:58

Sorry you are having a hard time quentin. Im sure therapy will help imho. It really helped me.Flowers

QuentinSummers · 05/04/2018 20:49

I'm about to start some fairly involved therapy through work
But the universe seems to want me to deal with stuff more quickly than that Shock

I have some v good friends too so that is also helping

Don't know if either of you read the shark cage article but there was a para in there about depersonalisation and depression that was pretty much me to a T Sad

And yes Gin I am about to have some

Sometimes it is okay not to be fine, too.

Katara · 05/04/2018 20:42
Flowers

What RL support do you have to deal with the things you have been avoiding? If there is someone to talk to, who is professional in that area, it might help (and is not a sign of weakness!).

QuentinSummers · 05/04/2018 20:41

Thanks Flowers
I will be fine, it's just all a bit much at the moment. Gin

Didn't the wise turtle in Kung Fu Panda say "man often meets his destiny on the road he took to avoid it?"

He might have been quoting Confucius but I like to think Kung Fu Panda is real Grin

Seriously, I hope you're okay Quentin.

QuentinSummers · 05/04/2018 20:29

I have no fucking clue what Wabash means.
I'm very scientific so normally I think it's all coincidence but this is just too much. Maybe fate or something. Or maybe it is coincidence and I'm over thinking it. Might go divert myself with some astrology.

OP posts:
QuentinSummers · 05/04/2018 20:28

No, no toxic people. Just an unfortunate sequence of events forcing me to face up to stuff i have been avoiding. And I don't know what to do. Wabash.

Katara · 05/04/2018 20:19

Quentin do you know how to read astrology and where the planets are in relation to your birth chart? (It is quite a fun way to deal with shit storms, to try to work out which planet to blame and what the universe wants you to learn)

I know the comment about the universe was not meant seriously, but the thing to remember is that (if you give any credence to astrology) all planets transit through, and so any shit will pass too.

Although the planets on the outer edge of the solar system take longer to pass obviously.

Sometimes the stars just tell you all you can do is bunker down until the shit passes - is that a possibility?
