Labour against transphobia group - thread 2

As a friendless and very technically-minded young person I could very easily have got on that bus.

OlennasWimple · 06/02/2018 22:34

Grin Certain

CertainHalfDesertedStreets · 06/02/2018 22:33

Who is in charge of asking someone to leave when there is a clash of needs?

There are no clashes of needs. Everyone is lovely and kind. And there's a REALLY FUCKING STRICT HIERARCHY, LIKE MASLOW ONLY WITH MORE WORDS ON IT AND YOU ARE AT THE BOTTOM CIS SCUM.

Kumbayah my Lord Kumbayah.

"I unfortunately mistook overall body dysphoria and the emotional results of trauma for gender dysphoria and came close to ruining/mutilating my body in an attempt to fix it. ...All of a sudden, I had many new friends and I was getting a lot of attention for my new identity.....the harsh reality is if gender roles weren’t so ingrained into today’s society then a lot of kids might not even be transitioning at all"

what an articulate and thoughtful young woman, and sensible mum.

Also interesting the focus on gay male behaviour - or is it transman behaviour?

thebewilderness · 06/02/2018 19:52

Submit, or die, has been the theme song of the abusive authoritarian male for time out of mind. So, I get that.
What I do not get is people being so homophobic they are willing to sacrifice their children to doctors who want to experiment on them with drugs and surgery, and government agencies that sanction and support these practitioners.
Practitioners who see what is obviously Munchausen by proxy, and a child willing to do anything to please a parent, fast track children for transitioning.

MissMoneyPlant · 06/02/2018 12:07

hipster I recently filled in a questionnaire and went trawling for the most ridiculous gender I could find.

I found an amazing one a while back - I swear it was on Wikipedia but can't find it now. It basically said sometimes a person's gender can't be expressed in known words, so might be represented by a scream, for example.

Perhaps they got confused because they asked a TERF what their gender was and got a scream in reply...

OlennasWimple · 06/02/2018 11:47

I wondered about the "safe space" at the Young Labour meeting: how was it managed? What would they do if a young woman went into it because she was being harassed by a man and wanted to get away from him like she used to be able to do with the ladies loos But then he also wanted to access the safe space, perhaps because someone saw his over-eager advances and threatened to punch him if he did it again.

Who wins? Who gets to stay, who goes?

Or if the same woman in my example above goes to the safe space because the harassment has been very triggering for her as she is a survivor of serious sexual assault and she just needs some time away from men to gather her thoughts. Then a TIM wants to access the space because someone said that he was really a man, and words are actual violence so he needed to get away.

Again, who gets to stay? The person who got there first? Who is in charge of asking someone to leave when there is a clash of needs?

Terftastic · 06/02/2018 09:50

Oh, and later down the thread, someone called "Jude" links to her profile and says "Be glad your employer isn't listed or I'd send them these tweets. Transphobic comments and targeted abuse isn't professional"

So that's lovely.

Terftastic · 06/02/2018 09:47

I've just read a Twitter thread with a "socialist" Game of Thrones actor who has called Lilliam a 'brave pioneer' and telling a woman to "replace hatred with love".

Soooooo easy for him to say that, isn't it? Bloody Brocialists. Cool dude bro's - just loving that they have an excuse to berate women that don't do what they're told.

Then he refuses to discuss this any further "with a bigot." Which is about the level of debate at all levels - from Actors on Twitter all the way up to Members of Parliament. ie, you're a bigot, I'm not discussing it. Women - shut up.

NotTerfNorCis · 06/02/2018 09:32

I see the Lily lad is bleating about Jennifer James publishing a list of names from the Labour Against Transphobia group. But wasn't his group compiling a 'hit list' themselves? Aimed at getting people actually thrown out of the party? Lilliam has no shame at all.

TallulahWaitingInTheRain · 06/02/2018 09:30

Under their ludicrous system, I am agender

Can I be post-gender?

TheVastMajority · 06/02/2018 06:34

i came across this today - gender inclusion policy at a string of stores (Target) in the US leads to a huge increase in sexual violence offences in their gender neutral changing rooms and bathrooms. Most commonly voyeurism/peeping toms and upskirt photos. Data drawn from reported cases before and after the policy was implemented.

95% victims female. 34% children. 100% male perps.

But it couldnt happen here, right?

TERFousBreakdown · 05/02/2018 23:30

@pamish, except that's not going to happen, much deserved as it would be ...

What I really don't get, though, is how someone so incoherent, unable to cope with criticism and, frankly, inarticulate could become such a 'superkid' in the first place.

O tempora o mores?

pamish · 05/02/2018 23:20

I think Lily the superkid is both womens officer and lgbt officer at his uni, and student welfare officer as well. And womens officer for his LP branch. And doing a full-time course maybe degree, and applying for another degree (for which he cant afford the UCAS fee).

he's doing lots of speaking things too, he's due in enfield at a labour youth thing next week. is he also Youth Officer? Imagine what a reception he got at that labour youth thing at the weekend, which passed a unanimous self-id vote.

Gonna look a bit sick when he gets suspended for the data theft.

hipsterfun · 05/02/2018 22:40

I recently filled in a questionnaire and went trawling for the most ridiculous gender I could find. It was a fucking corker and, bizarrely, not actually false. Sadly, I’ve forgotten it.

hipsterfun · 05/02/2018 22:37

Jeez - when you register at LYLAGM18 you get a sticker with your pronouns on. There is also a safe space by the gender neutral toilet.

Wild.

LangCleg · 05/02/2018 22:36

Under their ludicrous system, I am agender.

Perhaps we should identify as agender and take the movement over!

CertainHalfDesertedStreets · 05/02/2018 22:30

Jeez - when you register at LYLAGM18 you get a sticker with your pronouns on. There is also a safe space by the gender neutral toilet.

I can't see the vast structural engine for social justice that is the Welfare State lasting overly long once this shower get their mitts on it...

Ereshkigal · 05/02/2018 22:22

I think it was a LGBTQ Officer role in Lily's constituency. So presumably anyone with blue hair who self identified as "queer" asexual etc could stand.

LapdanceShoeshine · 05/02/2018 21:42

Haven't RTFT so I don't know if anyone else has linked to this Guardian piece. Lily posted it on Twitter. Everything's hunkydory with self ID in Ireland apparently.

But:

There were 277 applications to change gender in Ireland from September 2015, when the legislation came into force, until September 2017

So it's hardly a massively significant number, is it? Hmm If I did my percentages right it's 0.006% of the population. I think the estimate of our current transsexual population is in the vicinity of 0.07% (& according to More or Less last week it's really hard to know, though I admit I wasn't paying full attention).

Irish population density is approx 70 per sq.km; UK 268, England 420. (Wales 149, NI 136, Scotland 69)

So England currently has 10 times as many transsexuals in a population 6 times denser. If self-ID is brought in the numbers will presumably be much higher. That would make the impact here a lot more than in Ireland.

TERFousBreakdown · 05/02/2018 21:05

You’ll be happy to hear that #LYLAGM18 unanimously passed a motion backing the creation of a separate Trans officer role and the group affirmed its commitment to having all those who self-identify as women on the all-female shortlists!!

If this were a question of technology architecture in the context of a business-critical IT system I'd have to compliment them on re-inventing the wheel concept of redundancy as a means to achieve fault-tolerance.

There! I just earned myself the much coveted 'Silver Lining' badge! Grin

OlennasWimple · 05/02/2018 20:51

Yes, I was thinking about AWS / Trans officers / BAME shortlists...

If things are still the same as back in the day when I was at university, only a woman could stand for election as Women's Officer and only women could vote (we got given a separate ballot paper when we turned up to vote in the student union elections)

Is it the same with the trans officers that some CLP have (eg the constituency where LM is the Women's Officer)? Ie the candidate AND the electorate have to be trans? But who is the arbiter of eligibility? Presumably it's operated on an honour system so far, but the consequence of embracing self-ID is that someone who is not in anyway shape or form trans could stand for Trans Officer, whilst they surely couldn't deny anyone the right to vote for the trans officer because that would be "gate-keeping"

Similarly, as well as now apparently allowing anyone who says "but I'm a woman" to be included on AWS, the Labour party really ought to be allowing - for consistency - anyone who self-IDs as a woman to elect said Women's Officers. So men get to stand as Women's Officer and get to vote as well. Can anyone possibly see where this might all fall down...?

Never mind the all BAME officer proposal. How will they determine who is "black enough"? A sort of reverse "one drop" rule? Hmm Who gets to select the BAME candidates - should this be restricted to BAME party officers too?

whoaml · 05/02/2018 17:33

Ha ha agender

whoaml · 05/02/2018 17:28

Maybe women could self identify as trans for the ATS?

Well according to some of my "woke" friends I am apparently either a non binary femme or agenda! Hmm

Which of course falls under the transgender umbrella.
