I am politically homeless. I won't vote labour with all of this going on. Unfortunately, the trans 'issue' is such a hot potato subject politically that I'm not convinced any party is brave enough to address it properly. Not at the risk of being labelled transphobic, regressive, hateful, etc. Sad

guardianfree · 25/01/2018 11:33

Yes to the climate of fear as therealposieparker has pointed out. Until the narrative is opened up publicly then MPs will be petrified of speaking their minds as the consequences from the TRAs are so massive. THAT is what is hindering this.
Of course most MPs understand that pretending someone can magic into the opposite sex is delusional - but their intimidation and threats have worked and until the media allows for people to talk about scientific and biological facts without being called bigots, we have a steep mountain to climb.

Nineteenagain · 25/01/2018 11:32

Hammer
Stirling work Thank you. Off to think of a new name now.

Surfandterf · 25/01/2018 11:26

Justabunchofcunts but who is there to even vote for? The greens lost their marbles a while ago now, lib Dems are no better and there's no option of a protest vote as the conservatives are pushing the GRA, never thought I'd be so hopeful for the DUP to put a stop to it.

EElisavetaOfBelsornia · 25/01/2018 11:23

I was thinking about how LM and their like are described as “brave”. I can think of several examples of real bravery just from the people I know.

The woman who suffers crippling depression but gets her children to school on time every day. The woman who faced looks and comments daily at the school gates when she turned up with black eyes during the process of leaving her abusive partner. The woman who gets vicious and appalling racist and mysogynist abuse online daily, carries on representing the needs of her deprived area in council, and is campaigning for better online protection. The woman forced into marriage at 17 who lost most of her family and community by leaving, and has spent a career as a union activist supporting the disadvantaged. The woman who started a crowdfunder campaign to defend women’s rights, knowing the abuse she would attract as a result.

That’s bravery - facing the shit that comes with being a woman each day, and nevertheless persisting. This is the first time I have put my head above the parapet on this issue, and I’ve been labelled a bigot by officers of the Party I joined and have campaigned for, for nearly 30 years. And you know what, that’s made me braver. Not brave enough to say much in a way which could jeopardise my job, but enough to feel Fuck it, I’m not being silenced.

Here’s to all the brave women. You are fabulous ❤️

Justabunchofcunts · 25/01/2018 11:00

Surf I won't vote Labour while they are saying men can be women and political parties can break the law. Stay in the party and push for change yes because I believe in the possibility of a party that is democratic and feminist. Vote for them to run the country while they are behaving like neither? No.

KissMaCis · 25/01/2018 10:58

Rod was a party member, he’s not of the right. He’s pretty much the same as me Blairite and moderate. He left over the antisemitism scandal.

OnTheList · 25/01/2018 10:55

I read that as 'on the same side as real life'.

Grin
DodoPatrol · 25/01/2018 10:54

we’re on the wrong side because it’s the same side as RL

I read that as 'on the same side as real life'.

Still, come to think of it...

Surfandterf · 25/01/2018 10:52

I think it's important for people who would normally vote labour to continue to do so. Please don't let them win on this, we can't let them push people out of the party and turn it into an anti feminist echo chamber.

womanhuman · 25/01/2018 10:36

I was just reading on Twitter that we’re on the wrong side because it’s the same side as RL. I’m more thinking that you know our backs are against the wall when even RL is championing women/lesbians.

KissMaCis · 25/01/2018 10:24

I never read any of those momentum backed websites. This swackbox is the one that libelled a friend of mine. Bunch of tinfoil loons and the reason labour is a mess.

QuentinSummers · 25/01/2018 10:23

did you read this? If they have copied stuff from your social media page without permission, they may well be in serious trouble with the ICO. Again.

^skwawkbox.org/2017/07/01/mcnicols-new-dpa-guide-shows-lab-hq-cant-legally-use-social-media-to-suspend/^

Am I getting this right? The labour party can not use their office to trawl through social media and collect evidence against members. Cos that would be illegal.

But if an individual made a complaint against Labour or a Labour officer doing the same, using evidence from social media, thats not a breech of data protection as the individual doesn't have the responsibility to protect data and is showing up a breech of trust. But the Labour Party has a duty of care under the DPA to use this evidence from social media
to investigate due to the complaint and abuse of power.

So anyone in office using their office to investigate other members without an official complaint is not compliant with DPA unless they are upholding the DPA (or another law). And even then unless its directed at particular individuals and isn't criminal in nature (harassment or hate) then Labour also can't use it against them cos of the DPA as they haven't given permission for that data to be collected against them.

????

If I'm right, then its ok to hold an opinion and office and campaign as long as you don't target individuals to a criminal level or abuse your power by collecting data or using Labour Party data.

Its ok to express and campaign for an issue as a member as long as its does involve criminal behaviour.

Its not ok, to harass individuals (because thats criminal) and if thats done the individual has to lodge a proper complaint - it can't be done on the behalf of someone. And its not ok to collect information in the form of a dosier or file on members in an official capacity and its dodgy if you hold any official role in Labour unless authorised by the member to collect that information or Labour is investigating something which they have a legal responsibility or concern about.

???

Am I right?

Flipping complicated, but essentially about abuse of power?

Hammer has named changed, but I’m guessing she’s pleased the majority are happy. 😊

TerfWarz · 25/01/2018 10:06

Name change... Too much??

NettleTea · 25/01/2018 10:00

I am always worried when interviewed that Ive said something I shouldnt have done, but thank god, it was all OK

YomTov · 25/01/2018 09:57

Liddle being Liddle, he can't resist the sideswipes at Momentum et al, but at core this is on the mark. Hugely grateful to Hammer (sorry, I'm new here and haven't worked out how to get her name properly and highlighted) - tbh I doubted Liddle could do anything reasonable and I was well wrong.

LangCleg · 25/01/2018 09:56

The Momentum leadership is definitely behind self-ID although I don't think their activists in every constituency are (certainly not in mine). I honestly think it depends where you are - big city? University city/town? Sitting MP involved in the chicken coup?

In some cases, I'm pretty certain that pro-trans stances are being offered by anti-Corbyn MPs as olive branches to Momentum activists if they are worried about possible deselection fights. Because, whatever Jon Lansman says about the national policy, there will be sticky wickets for some MPs where Momentum has taken over the CLP committees.

allTERFSareequal · 25/01/2018 09:55

Name changed, checking in. Not a member of the Labour party, but I did vote for them last election and I live in a very strong Labour area. Disappointed isn't a strong enough word.

Nuffaluff · 25/01/2018 09:46

That article by Rod Liddle is brilliant. Thank you Hammer.
For every person writing ‘thank you’ on this board, there will be another hundred thinking it, I’m sure.
