Am rushing out or i would do a summary.

TheNerevarine · 27/01/2018 11:42

Yy, excellent article, Flaps. thanks for sharing. The Fallon Fox video was still up yesterday as it was one of the links I sent my mum. I can dig out the link if anyone wants it but think I searched Fallon Fox + occipital to find it.

BeyondWitchbitchterf · 27/01/2018 11:31

Here, actually it doesn't look expired (though my change.org thinks I'm Spanish for some reason, so it's hard to check Grin )

There was a drop the T petition (that I have plugged at every given opportunity!), but I think it has expired now?

AreyouorHaveyoueverBeen seriously i don’t understand how Labour MPs - shadow cabinet members- stooping this scandalously low is not front page news.
It’s behaviour massively below the office of an MP and surely there are rules against this? (I am not saying private individuals or party members are Ok to do it but holy fuck, MPs?!!)
I am livid and will be writing to my Labour MP about it.
I am not a party member but I am a lifelong Labour voter and have spent days helping them with delivering leaflets for local and GEs. Fuck that utterly.

Labour HQ need come out fast with an absolute unequivocal condemnation of this shitlist and all the self ID bullshit.
What an utter shower.

AngryAttackKittens · 27/01/2018 10:53

I don't know if it's since been deleted but there used to be a video online of the fight where Fallon Fox broke his opponent's orbital bone. You could hear the crowd cheering him on. If that doesn't peak trans any reluctant men there may be no hope for them.

Thermostatpolice · 27/01/2018 10:53

My DH got it straight away but was totally unaware until I told him.

Re. Labour, MIL was a Labour activist for most of her life. His first reaction was sadness that, in the end, the party she was so committed to would have so little respect for women.

crustychristmastree · 27/01/2018 10:50

Thanks @TheNerevarine and assigned that joe rogan thing is great!

Justabunchofcunts · 27/01/2018 10:46

I totally get why people are leaving Labour. My current position is stay in the party and vote for sense to be restored. But I can't vote for a party that is doing what Labour is doing at the moment.

TheNerevarine · 27/01/2018 10:42

@Crusty, this list of rights women are set to lose really put things into perspective for me. It doesn't seem to have been retweeted that much, so it might have got lost along the way.

DH was raised by a single mother from when he was fairly young and I've been chipping away at his male socialization blinders for 20 years so he got it right away when I started talking about this stuff. For men for whom trying to see things from women's perspective is a new thing it will probably take a woman or girl they know getting caught in the crossfire for it to sink in.

AssignedPuuurfectAtBirth · 27/01/2018 10:27

Yes the sports thing is very good for peak transing men,

Show them this clip from Joe Rogan

crustychristmastree · 27/01/2018 10:24

I'm collecting phrases that help explain the issue aka peak trans a man.

Dh isn't especially interested- he's sick of labour and struggles with the other parties for other reasons. He's been tired of the guardian on and of for these reasons too; not any feminist reasins.

He's one of 3 boys and a very patriarchal family, though very kind and relaxed - mother never worked, never raised her voice etc. (In fact I'm not sure what she's actually interested in, no hobbies just loves grand children and the church).

If I discussed all this with him I do think he'd agree but not see any wider political impact till I pointed it out.

So he's simply not tuned into how life is for women. We have a boy and another on the way, so I've resolved to absolutely make sure they are aware of things as they grow up.

I also have issues about how all this (patriarchy, gender stereotypes, masculinity etc) impacts young boys as I really do think many of the issues we deal with in feminism can be tracked back to those early experiences for boys and girls.

'We've begun to raise daughters more like sons... but few have the courage to raise our sons more like our daughters.' Gloria Steinman (and insert many more of her quotes here!)

This one is apt for me at the mo:

'The truth will set you free, but first it will piss you off.'

Mner · 27/01/2018 10:22

DH peak transed when I showed him pictures of transwomen competing in womens' sports. Before that he was of the opinion, that somehow someone would put a stop to anything like that. I'm giving him regular trans updates now!

LangCleg · 27/01/2018 10:18

My DH is 100% on board and extremely vocal about it.

Our only bone of contention is whether or not we should leave the Labour Party over it. Current position is I think we should probably leave, he thinks we should probably stay.

AreYouOrHaveYouEverBeenATERF · 27/01/2018 10:11

AlllWomenShortbreads - I couldn't agree with you more. It makes Labour unelectable for me.

BeyondWitchbitchterf · 27/01/2018 10:10

My DH was in the "gets it but isn't particularly interested" club, til yesterday - when during a chat he said I hadn't mentioned puberty blockers. And the Scottish thing about schools not having to tell parents.

Now it could potentially affect his kids, i think he's properly peaked.

sexnotgender · 27/01/2018 09:56

Indeed.

RedToothBrush · 27/01/2018 09:56

Things that made the penny drop with DH.

Showing him a bunch of homophobic tweets and how widespread it was.

Pointing out he could declare he was a woman at the drop of a hat and there was nothing anyone could do (think of the idea of a stag do, where they all decide the are ladies for the day, so stroll into the changing rooms somewhere for the shits and giggles, and you are 'transphobic' for questioning). Then the next day he could be a full on man again. Its not about trans people, its about men who will exploit it.

Surgery or hormones are not required at all. I think this is one if the big misconceptions.

And the concept of medical consent and how this would go out if the window. With implications particularly for children.

AngryAttackKittens · 27/01/2018 09:52

It's hard to have a discussion with people who keep threatening to kill you.

sexnotgender · 27/01/2018 09:51

My DH wants to know why we can’t all discuss it and find a safe space for everyone?

I was like, that’s the point! We want to, the other side are #nodebate
