I naively thought putting ((())) around someone’s name was giving them a hug!

FearedAndLoathed · 30/01/2018 21:25

It was originally a show of solidarity. There was an anti semitic script that was created to find Jewish people on twitter. It searched for Jewish names and other identifiers and marked Jewish names as such. Right wing mobs (and probably some left wing ones too) would then target Jews on the platform.

Is it trans activists using it? Gross if it is. I'm not aware of any similar targetting of trans people using that tech. It';ll just be them trying to suggest a similarity in scope and scale between transphobia and anti semitism.

thebewilderness · 30/01/2018 20:20

I think it just means enemy of mine these days.

boatyardblues · 30/01/2018 19:27

Anyone know what the (((three brackets))) around twitter handles is all about? I dimly recall reading about it being a signifier of some right wing group, but there were lots of Jewish folk on Hadley Freeman’s feed using them too, so now I’m totally confused.

thebewilderness · 30/01/2018 19:14

Is that supposed to explain why the trans activists attacked Marie in the park last September? Strapping young men are all terrified of little old ladies so they assault us? Faugh!

OvaHere · 30/01/2018 16:33

After reading the Jeffries twitter thread I mooched around a bit and found this one

twitter.com/thinkrightuk/status/957976755943411712

It's a right wing mostly male thread but yet not a TRA in sight trying to thought police them despite most of the comments being extremely trans and homophobic.

Women are such easy targets. Why go after the truly offensive men when you can just whine about elderly women making you feel unsafe?

Enjoy this glorious Twitter thread: twitter.com/Ovalegal/status/957750766688595968 about Sheila Jeffries.

YYY, it's fantastic. Click on the first tweet though, 'cause there's more.

According to the article it has been attributed to Remain voters not renewing their membership.

Well that is a lovely way of killing two birds with one stone

Hide the 'fact' that the people leaving are women unhappy with labours recent acttions and self id (obviously ive no idea but its a weird coincidence)

And with all these remainers leaving they are obviously getting behind brexit

Yay Confused

IamSpartacusTheGardener · 30/01/2018 08:17

Maybe LM can find the info?

RubyLennoxExists · 30/01/2018 08:07

The Labour Party isn't a public authority so not subject to FOI. But I guess it may have obligations to its members to disclose certain information?

Mner · 30/01/2018 07:19

They'll bury anything that would prove them otherwise unless it's possible to submit a FOI request...?

RedToothBrush · 29/01/2018 23:47

HOw can we find out the statistics of who left, i.e. which sex was the majority?
You can't.

DrinkFeckArseGirls · 29/01/2018 23:30

HOw can we find out the statistics of who left, i.e. which sex was the majority? Remainers my arse.

thebewilderness · 29/01/2018 23:06

Well there we go! Women can debate all they want but the 8th rule of misogyny is the Labour policy: Men are whatever men say they are and women are whatever men say they are.

HairyBallTheorem · 29/01/2018 22:13

Well, over 1000 people have contributed to JJ's fundraiser, and 5 lurkers for every person doing something would be an extremely conservative estimate on most internet activities...

I don't think it's Remainers! (And in any case, one doesn't need to "renew" one's membership - it's done by DD and continues until one takes an active step to stop it. As I did. Last week in fact.)

RedToothBrush · 29/01/2018 21:33

Jim Waterson‏ @jimwaterson
Labour lost 5,000 paying members last week. Which would have been a disaster under Brown/Miliband but is now basically a rounding error...

www.theredroar.com/2018/01/exclusive-nearly-5000-people-left-the-labour-party-last-week/
Exclusive: nearly 5000 people left the Labour Party last week
New figures show people 4,795 left the Labour Party last week - one of the biggest weekly falls since Jeremy Corbyn became leader.

According to the article it has been attributed to Remain voters not renewing their membership.

I would love to know the accuracy of this story. This source isn't the best, but fascinating to say the least.

RedToothBrush · 29/01/2018 21:22

His mother has other younger kids who are struggling with it. They have called him by a different name their entire lives. But its all about Lily. All of it. And his mum's job is to go along with it all and not question anything or comment about how it might be upsetting the others.

Amazing that the role of 'mother' is seen as so lowly and not worthy of respect and that its just to facilitate the children not guidance them or look out for the interests of multiple children. A women's officer who views mothers like this...

I'd love to know that side of the story. I really would.

LangCleg · 29/01/2018 21:18

Political parties that choose to ignore the views of these women and fail to debate the issue are short-sighted idiots.

Ordinary people will revolt if they are force fed an endless diatribe of pomo, social constructionist nonsense and told they must obey or they are patronised, sneered at, and told they are bigots.

Did these people not notice that tactic failing miserably vis a vis Brexit?

The backlash will be huge. And we'll all suffer from it.

QuentinSummers · 29/01/2018 21:17

I saw that rtb
Felt sorry for his mum, but also just how entitled is that? Telling mum's what their job is. Fuck right off

angry women are also mothers of teens

you've witnessed the latest offering, with comments after about how its a mother's job to just accept their children for what they are and be simply passive, I take it...

boatyardblues · 29/01/2018 21:06

Indeed. The balance of power lies with 30 - 45 year olds. Particularly women.

Many of those angry women are also mothers of teens who will soon be voting and wives/partners of men, some of whom are fathers of daughters and all will be sons of older women. These disenfranchised women have influence in their homes and wider social circles and time to patiently, persistently lay out the potential risks of self ID to their nearest and dearest. Political parties that choose to ignore the views of these women and fail to debate the issue are short-sighted idiots. This is not like the gay rights movement at all.

officerhinrika · 29/01/2018 20:51

Just listened, LM comes over as rather whiny and given to hyperbole, saying things have been party policy for decades - how would they know? ( and it’s not policy).
As for referring to Linda Bellos as a “supposed feminist” what a wally. Not surprised they don’t want to talk to Bellos, she’d wipe the floor with them. Wasn’t to keen on the amount of interrupting of Bellos but I am biased!
