So I don't think they need to worry about traditional voters grin the truth is now they're a party of young people

If they are going to run with that theory they should maybe have a wee look at the age demographics of the UK....

UpABitLate · 23/01/2018 16:02

comment on one of those tweets

"The sensible thing is now get Tory women involved. They hate this as much as us, and are livid with Greening. There’s a piece in the works for Conservative Woman, and the spectator on Thursday. This is cross party."

I agree this is cross party - it's got nothing to do with party politics and everything to do with women - the old cunty sort - and girls - and we should stand together on this. Because left or right we KNOW what the risks are, because the vast majority of us have multiple experiences that demonstrate how many creepy men there are out there and what they are prepared to do.

Blue / red makes no difference when a bloke wants to get his cock out and wank it at a woman on the bus.

This is a women's issue. Old style.

ellaoldie · 23/01/2018 14:56

Am really confused. Didn't the last nec statement confirm that only trans women with grc could stand on AWS? That lead to JJ confirming the battle had been won re AWS. Today's meeting was meant to confirm the situation re access to other positions and roles fir self- iding "women". Or have i missed an update? Am unclear what statement has been pulled...

*I really want to see a politician explain how they defend the aristocracy exemption. How can it be argued that it's okay to take a gold medal, a scholarship, a sex designated post from women, but not okay to take a dukedom from a man?

Feminists should be hammering this point more often. It's the kind of thing the press might seize on, since they love a Downton Abbey-esque angle. You're right, politicians should be asked to explain it, and trans orgs also need to explain why none have raised a peep about this blatant denial of the rights of trans-identified females in the bill.*

There is a Lord who has raised this in the media: www.telegraph.co.uk/news/2017/11/29/lord-balfour-outdated-succession-law-means-daughter-could-claim/

"Under the current Gender Recognition Act, an elder daughter who changes gender cannot supplant a male heir.

But legal experts believe this could be in breach of article 14 of the European Convention on Human Rights, on discrimination, and articles one and eight of the Human Rights Act, on property rights and the right to a private and family life.

The law has never been tested however because no transgender aristocrat has ever come forward to claim a title.

The reform of the Gender Recognition Act is now likely to include a clause on an exemption for hereditary titles being dropped."

EamonnWright · 23/01/2018 14:42

If it is as the rumours suggest and wsl are kept for women I expect the Trans and supporters to regroup and attack. Eyes and ears open Hmm

Labour Party elected Jeremy Corbyn and then nearly won an election against all odds. The party is more left wing than ever and it's winning. So I don't think they need to worry about traditional voters Grin the truth is now they're a party of young people (apart from Jezza himself......) and young people are nearly all in favour of trans rights. I think they'd probs alienate more people by being anti-trans. There aren't enough people with 'traditional' values for it to be worth their while going backwards on rights issues.

DonkeySkin · 23/01/2018 14:22

Or what about female Catholics? Can a female Catholic self-ID as a man and apply to the seminary? Would the Catholic church be discriminating against that person if they rejected them?

I believe in Ireland women who identify as men are still barred from the priesthood. Someone mentioned on another thread that the Scottish consultation on self-ID has something about religious exemptions, which in practice would mean barring women from identifying their way into becoming priests, rabbis, imams and any other male-only religious roles.

It's funny (but not really) how careful men are being to ensure that they won't lose anything to women in this new era of supposed 'gender fluidity'. 'Gender' is fluid, but only when it comes to women's boundaries. Men's remain as sacred as ever. 'Woman', as every political party is reminding us, must become 'inclusive' to men, but 'man', wherever it really counts, in the halls of power and privilege, is to remain as fixed and impermeable as ever.

EamonnWright · 23/01/2018 14:19

They have dropped it, someone told them it is illegal

This will probably see them going full tilt to get the GRA through now which will open the while thing up to public scrutiny.

Well done Jennifer James. My new hero. Bigger balls than any of the wee arseholes with a skirt fetish.

sashh · 23/01/2018 14:15

CecilyNeville · 23/01/2018 14:15

I wonder if they might try to drop 'all women' lists in favour of lumping everyone together into 'marginalised groups' shortlists.

Popchyk · 23/01/2018 14:12

The answer, of course, is that politicians and trans orgs couldn't give a toss about trans-identified females.

This is all about men. Always will be.

Trans identified females in a position of responsibility in the Labour Party? I can think of none.

Trans identified males with a position of responsibility in the Labour Party? I can think of:

Sophie Cooke
Heather Peto
Anna Lee
Lily Madigan
Tara Morris
Emily Brothers
Anwen Muston
Astrid Walker

You'd think that Labour would be looking how to give a voice to trans-identified females, wouldn't you? But no, they just want to give the men more power.

Fekko · 23/01/2018 14:05

I already know what ‘woman’ is - and it doesn’t have a penis, nor is it a man in a dress.

TimbuktuTimbuktu · 23/01/2018 14:04

Heard a rumour that they have postponed decision until March.

EamonnWright · 23/01/2018 14:04

Someone has tweeted that Labour have backed down on self ID, no official source though

I will have a few pints after work if that's the case.

terfing · 23/01/2018 14:04

One source on Twitter says that the NEC will be debating the definition of "woman". 'Theredroar' tweeted it, not sure how reliable they are.

MorrisZapp · 23/01/2018 14:02

@CuppaTeaAndAJammieDodger and @irretating thanks for sharing, that's reassuring.

irretating · 23/01/2018 13:49

I've been in touch with JJ regarding the changing of terms for donation. With her permission to share here's what she sent to me.

Thanks for getting in touch, point taken. Hopefully the party will confirm our position is correct and everybody will get a refund. We are more than happy to refund people, whatever happens.

I will update everyone tonight.

She also suggests that Mumsnet Labour members get involved in their CLPs and stand as delegates for the Labour conference. Deadline is in June.

TimbuktuTimbuktu · 23/01/2018 13:47

That would be a test case I would support @CecilyNeville

It would all come out in the open then!
