When did it become easier for society to accept that a man can become a woman than that a man can wear a dress?

^This X 100

When did this narrative turn? Is this just a way for homophobic MRAs to crush the feminist and gay rights movements in one fell swoop?

Fekko · 23/01/2018 18:20

I was just peeling the spuds and thinking ‘what would Socrates say?’

JaimesGoldenHand · 23/01/2018 18:19

I can no longer support any concept of GRC.

Surely gender de-recognition is what is needed. Two sexes, no genders.

Huge amounts of emotional/ professional support for adults who have such strong body dysmorphia that they feel that they need to surgically change their body.

Hate crime to discriminate against people because they don't present in the way western society currently expects (most obvious example being men in dresses).

Enforcement of penalties and research into causes of male violence that make women and certain men fearful of being in shared spaces with them.

These are the answers, not a fictional reimagination of biological reality.

When did it become easier for society to accept that a man can become a woman than that a man can wear a dress?

Isn't Heather Peto the one that is already on an AWS? Yes. So on an AWS and on the Jo Cox programme. Wonder how many women have managed that feat?

Sophie Cook is on the Jo Cox programme this year. twitter.com/sophiecooktalks/status/952196870054535169

Anna Lee was on it last year.

UpABitLate · 23/01/2018 17:40

Maybe Cook identified as something else for a bit last year, and so can have another go.

Jigglytuff · 23/01/2018 17:30

I thought Cook was on it last year?

Fekko · 23/01/2018 17:22

So what’s heather then?

LangCleg · 23/01/2018 17:18

Heather Peto has tweeted today that they have been accepted into the Jo Cox Women in Leadership programme this year.

Isn't Heather Peto the one that is already on an AWS?

I think Heather should be asked for a birth certificate. Mean? Maybe. But I want to know whether or not the Labour Party has already broken the law in respect of AWS.

Fekko · 23/01/2018 17:17

I’m sure there’s a pithy retort to that fact. Possibly including the words ‘die’ ‘hatespeak’ and ‘fire’?

CecilyNeville · 23/01/2018 17:16

I think it's 50 odd. So yes, disproportionately over-represented.

TimbuktuTimbuktu · 23/01/2018 17:15

50 a year I thought.

BlindYeo · 23/01/2018 17:12

How many spaces are there on the Jo Cox Women in Leadership programme? What proportion have gone to TIMs? With two receiving spaces, would they now be over-represented relative to the general population?

EamonnWright · 23/01/2018 17:09

Nobody born a man should be on any woman's list. Calling a man a woman or using he/she etc is a courtesy. When did the psychiatric community start thinking it was a good thing to indulge delusions anyway?

BlindYeo · 23/01/2018 17:05

I agree Upstart and Wich I am also not in favour of GRCs allowing someone male to take a position or resource from a woman.

Mumsnut · 23/01/2018 17:04

At least we got a ballot re Brexit, flawed though it was.

busyboysmum · 23/01/2018 17:00

I no longer support men with a GRC taking a womans place on an AWS shortlist. Even a year ago that wouldn't have bothered me.

Same here. Feel like we need to start pushing back.

I also think there are a lot more old people in the country than young people. Didn't that swing Brexit?

Heather Peto has tweeted today that they have been accepted into the Jo Cox Women in Leadership programme this year.

So Peto and Sophie Cook (both TIMs) taking up 2 spots on that programme this year.

Anna Lee (TIM) was on the programme last year.

They've never actually had just women on that course.

WichBitchHarpyTerfThatsMe · 23/01/2018 16:50

I'm with you on that UpstartCrow. I have also changed my mind. Women have fought too hard, people born male who acquire a GRC later down the line should not be entitled to take scarce positions and resources from biological females. They can start their own fights for rights and representation as trans people, separate from women, and I will whole heartedly support them in their goals.

Hammerofthetwat · 23/01/2018 16:34

I miss transvestism, because that’s all I see when a man puts on a frock, but has no intention of ever going further than that.

UpstartCrow · 23/01/2018 16:32

I no longer support men with a GRC taking a womans place on an AWS shortlist. Even a year ago that wouldn't have bothered me.

Let trans people start their own shortlists and let men make room for them. Women don't have 50% representation yet.

If 'young people' are too short sighted to see the end result, they'll realise what they've done when its too late. By that time we wont be around to support them.

So people like 100lbtolose can snark, but when you start telling black people they have to include white people in their shortlists I hope they have the guts to tell you to fuck off.

UpABitLate · 23/01/2018 16:29

Hammer awesome how do I sign up? PM if you need to.

I'm in a ton of online radfem groups so can signpost on them as well if you want Smile

UpABitLate · 23/01/2018 16:28

At this point though, I'm changing my mind about GRC.

There were so few before it didn't really make any difference. As numbers increase I'm feeling like no, sex is important and that's what needs to be considered, for things like sports, women's awards, sex specific services etc.

I really don't care what someone's name is or how they dress or what job they do or any of that but I am not happy about TIMS taking spaces that women have carved out for ourselves over decades, and that are reserved for us.

This is just bogstandard backlash. Our position has got to the point now, due to our work, where things start to look OK, and men say well why the fuck should they have it. Sports is a great example, women's sport is attracting more funding, sponsorship, column inches, tv play etc. Female sportspeople are in the public eye more. And all of a sudden men want a piece of it.

patrickharviesorganicmuesli · 23/01/2018 16:26

100lb young people are on board with the trans agenda in the main, for now. The thing is with young people, especially young women, they grow up, experience a bit of the world and its sexism, and have their eyes opened to the way the world is weighted in favour of men. I suspect a good proportion of the wide eyed trans handmaidens of today, yourself included perhaps, are tomorrow's gender critical feminists, who will be horrified when the scales fall away and they realise what they have done.

Hammerofthetwat · 23/01/2018 16:24

@Upabitlate that’s my tweet. Am already getting a network together. This effects all women.

Trueheart1 · 23/01/2018 16:21

If the AWS are kept for women and men with a GRC could the fund be used to clarify the legal position of men without a GRC (Madigan) taking roles that should be reserved for women in the Labour Party?
