On the matter of self-ID as BAME or disabled, isn't that just a rather poor way of saying self-declare? You wouldn't ask for any sort of official confirmation of someone being black or having a disability on a membership application, would you?

I have no idea how far they've gone already - as we know the list is now not in the public domain so we can't check - but this individual thought it only fair to warn us.

The NEC are also recommending to allow people to self id as disabled or BAME. I'll see if I can link the report I saw on Twitter. The world has officially gone mad! How insulting!!?? You can't self id as a man though.

I think they mean that they want to collect more meaningful data about party members, their backgrounds and the challenges they may face.

Self ID isn't the way to go about getting more meaningful data. It will do the opposite!
