Boldly - can you imagine the bowls if there was a woman’s strike? ‘You can’t call it a woman’s strike, that’s exclusionist!’

I just don’t see stand why this has become such a huge thing for the Labour Party. It’s as if it’s The Most Important Thing Ever - above child poverty, housing, unemployment, education, homelessness... you know, actual real issues that a lot of people are struggling with?

It’s become a very odd party indeed. The sooner they wake up the better.

Well I won't be voting Labour if this is their policy, I won't vote Tory either as I don't agree with their policies.

There is no party I feel I can vote for which takes women's rights seriously. Feeling very disenfranchised. Perhaps it needs a mass strike of all women like they did in Iceland...

The legal fund will now be spent contesting one member's suspension according to the latest update. I don't know what they've been suspended for as the update didn't say and cannot tweet at the organiser without outing. I think the legal challenge to aws being opened to self iding males is more important and think it would be a shame if the fund was spent on one person but am not going to ask for a refund.

badbadhusky · 23/01/2018 08:43

And whichever way the NEC goes, the losing side will challenge the decision.

badbadhusky · 23/01/2018 08:41

Looking on the bright side, if this is the approach the party is going to formalise, it provides a clear policy statement which can be tested in the courts. I increasingly think ot will be test cases that will hammer out the boundaries between the conflicting rights of women (sex) and transwomen (gender).

I came in to say the same sort of thing Wendy
Surely Labour need to make gains in marginal constituencies?
What kind of reception would a Danielle Moscato type get knocking on doors?
It's no use picking up votes in safe constituencies. As usual politicians abandon real people for the latest bandwagon Angry

WendyHadWings · 23/01/2018 08:28

I wonder if the Labour leadership have thought how unpopular this backward step for the right of women will be with their traditional voters ?

Most of the identity politics nonsense is just seen as the idle wankery that stupid politicians get up to but this is likely to cut close to the bone.

SweetGrapes · 23/01/2018 08:25

Any idea what this means w.r.t. the legal challenge from Jennifer?

I guess the legal challenge will take time to organise?

AngryAttackKittens · 23/01/2018 08:17

As the product of a traditionally Labour family with multiple trade unionist members I never thought I'd say this, but if Labour make this the hill they choose to die on then they deserve to lose the next election over it. Preferably by a large enough margin that the point that they can't win without the support of women is really, really clear.

jellyfrizz · 23/01/2018 08:16

*”A baseline for transgender inclusion is that trans people are accepted within their gender. Denying this to transgender women within the Labour party would be a massive step backwards.”

Why is ‘gender’ the category rather than sex? I agree that people should be able to present with whatever degree of femininity or masculinity they feel and be accepted but WTF has that got to do with sex?

Gileswithachainsaw · 23/01/2018 08:14

Wish they would stop bringing up "trans rights"

What rights don't they have for heaven's sake.

What they mean is break throughs in taking over women's rights

Very worrying.
