Wrong side of history

Here is something I know to be true: those campaigning against trans rights will fail. Your money will be raised and spent and wasted. Your legal challenges will not succeed. Your relentless attempts to do injustice will fail. You are on the wrong side of history. Your children will grow up knowing better than you. You cannot stop progress. Your efforts are in vain.

And every time I'm proven right - every time a court judgment goes against you and every time a law protecting trans men and women is passed and every time equality is further enshrined in the laws of this country I am going to return to this thread for the pure and petty purpose of telling you I TOLD YOU SO.

But Lyra - it won't need to go to court. AWS operate on the basis of a very specific exemption in EA2010. They can only be utilised for people who are legally women - that is to say, women and male holders of a GRC. An AWS on the basis of self declaration is illegal.

It'll only need a warning letter. And even with sky high legal costs, you can buy more than one of those with £12k.

The Labour Party will either have to back down from self declaration for AWS or abandon them altogether.

I also happen to think racists are on the wrong side of history

I take it you're ok with Rachel Dolezal identifying as black then? Because if transgender is ok then why not transracial? In fact why not let white students identify as black and apply for scholarships etc that have been set up to get more BAME kids into university?

EamonnWright · 15/01/2018 17:58

When did I say I wasn't bothered? Of course I'm bothered. I also happen to think racists are on the wrong side of history and will eventually be condemned by all but that doesn't mean I'm happy just to sit and twiddle my thumbs about it now

So what are you actually going to do about it?

BronwenFrideswide · 15/01/2018 17:58

Any chance you could trouble yourself to answer my questions, Lyra? Or are you here just to be obnoxious?

DodoPatrol · 15/01/2018 17:57

What a very sneery post, Lyra.

Why? Why is it so important to you that women should not have a right to privacy and choice, and that shortlists to redress the balance of the sexes should be opened to both sexes? I don't get it.

guardianfree · 15/01/2018 17:57

Surely it must be time for that cake to be iced?? Grin

DonkeySkin · 15/01/2018 17:56

it's just delicious to watch you all wriggle with excitement

I'm calling bullshit on Lyra being a woman, even a very handmaiden-y one. I recognise these very male patterns of speech from many online interactions with enraged TRAs.

Bless, half-term already?

I'm off to donate another tenner in your name Lyra.

CisCucumber · 15/01/2018 17:55

You don't answer anything do you
Like what rights trans people don't have
Why wanting womens rights is wrong
You are just like a MRA
Im happy to donate even if the challenge doesn't get there or looses. Just so people can see how women are feeling
But you don't care about biological women do you

Xenophile · 15/01/2018 17:55

Ohhhhh, this is a TAAT. Ah well.

guardianfree · 15/01/2018 17:54

Misogyny in action Grin

PricklyBall · 15/01/2018 17:54

Lyra - are you happy when Lily Madigan applauds Anne Milton, the new Minister for Women, simply because she once said something supportive about self ID, even though she opposes abortion rights.

Lyra - are you happy that there are women out there who can't get treatment for mental health conditions because during in-patient treatment, they were on a ward with a transwoman who triggered their manic state because the transwoman is, and will always remain male-bodied, and yet it is the woman who is marginalised by being accused of transphobia by her mental health nurse?

If that's the right side of history, count me out.

MrsTerryPratchett · 15/01/2018 17:53

And I cannot understand why @LyraPotter you don't campaign for representatives who are trans in parliament rather than adding transwomen to women only shortlists. Trans people need representation; including trans men, who get completely ignored. Women still need a massive push for representation as well. So keep the AWS and campaign for better representation of trans people.

Rights for everyone. Not fighting over the scraps while while men still hog all the power.

terryleather · 15/01/2018 17:53

The narcissistic rage is strong in this one...

Xenophile · 15/01/2018 17:52

You usually expect better of lawyers. Maybe not.

And perhaps if you bothered your handmaidenly arse to read the responses you’d have formulated a better one yourself, chickadee.

Honestly, apart from the fact that 50 of you have taken the time to tell me how unimportant you think my point is, the funniest thing to me is that you all think £12K in fundraising will get you anywhere close to a legal challenge. I'm actually hoping to see that total rise, because the more TERF money that gets wasted the happier I am. But it's just delicious to watch you all wriggle with excitement about a sum of money which you'll soon realise isn't enough to get you within 100 yards of a courtroom door

If you believed that then you wouldn't be bothered. And you're not bothered. Definitely not. No sireee.

LyraPotter · 15/01/2018 17:49

Of course the legal challenge will fail. Let's all reconvene on this thread when it does, I can't tell you how much I'll enjoy that.

Oh Lyra, I’m watching the worlds slowest kids eat their tea. I’m not short of time.

BeyondWW · 15/01/2018 17:48

I'd rather be on the wrong side of history than just plain old wrong :)

MrsTerryPratchett · 15/01/2018 17:48

If you're right surely the legal challenge will fail and you'll be justified. Shouldn't you be donating?

LyraPotter · 15/01/2018 17:46

I assume this was a shit-grenade, designed to distract from more important things. I won't forget to be a feminist just because you said "look over there". 👉

Fekko · 15/01/2018 17:45

To coin a phrase ‘you ain’t no sister, bruv’. I might get that on a t-shirt.
