I have my dad's nose! Does that mean I am a d00d?

Sophia1984 · 20/01/2018 19:50

So according to this Dr, I have a man’s nose! Definitely doesn’t tip up at the end.

Rufustherenegadereindeer1 · 20/01/2018 19:45

Childbirth and a kidney stone come to mind

Which is ironic as dh gets a punch to the kidneys everytime he mentions it

(Joking....i dont even know where his kidneys are)

thebewilderness · 20/01/2018 18:59

I have never understood why people try to describe their experiences by comparing them to experiences they have never had. If you have never had the experience how can you possibly think you know how it compares? Bit off topic, apologies.

thebewilderness · 20/01/2018 18:40

@thebewilderness where did you get the rules of misogyny from, very interesting.
I observed and documented them with a good bit of assistance from friends and feminists.
harv If you want to be treated courteously you really need to stop telling porky pies in the Feminist Chat. It is too late in my opinion to redeem yourself considering the enormity of your mendacity coupled with your passive aggressive manipulative behavior.

SophoclesTheFox · 20/01/2018 18:26

I absolutely agree with seeking connection and common points of reference, italian. That is my style in real life, absolutely. It's a rare person that I can't connect with on some level.

But it has to go both ways. I have to feel that the person on the other side of the conversation is engaging with me.

And harv isn't. They still aren't. I could go into why, but it's going to look like even more of a pile on, so I'll stop there.

AngryAttackKittens · 20/01/2018 18:11

Is the men pause that rare moment when a man stops speaking mid-rant, and you think he's finally going to let someone else talk, but it turns out that he was just catching his breath?

Or going to get a cup of tea, if the conversation is happening online.

Most people find it icky and uncomfortable to be forced to participate in someone else's fetish, but that's another thing that you're not supposed to actually say because it makes you a mean girl. Basic pattern recognition skills are cruel and evil when they hurt men's feelings.
"Basic pattern recognition skills are cruel and evil when they hurt men's feelings" is absolutely an unwritten rule of misogyny!

Vicxy · 20/01/2018 16:52

The vast majority of the women on these boards are people who have lived very full and colourful lives, been at the forefront in every social battle and if are not LGB themselves have spent their lives within the community. We have fought alongside trans women and would continue to do so, but for their rights as the category trans women, not as women.

YY to this.

LangCleg · 20/01/2018 16:38

And I don't think it is at all fair to get 48 to identify where she is from. She may not even be in the UK!

That's disingenuous. I think you know perfectly well that I was highlighting the high likelihood that 48 had encountered some pushback on the thread and was resorting to gaslighting/fibbing for sympathy. I think you know that I was not trying to find out where 48 lives. Because all of us - you, me, 48 and everyone else on the thread - already knew that no transwoman had been murdered in the neighbouring streets to 48 in the last year.

Deadlylampshade · 20/01/2018 16:34

harv you have not made anything worse but it’s not about ‘respecting all women except Rose West’ it’s about listening to what they are saying and meeting us in a conversation as equals and not people who need educating.
What you have to understand is that this is an almost daily occurrence of a trans woman coming on the board because they believe our fears come from a place of ignorance and if we could just meet a lovely normal trans woman then we’d see they aren’t a threat. Thus entirely misunderstands us as an audience.
The vast majority of the women on these boards are people who have lived very full and colourful lives, been at the forefront in every social battle and if are not LGB themselves have spent their lives within the community. We have fought alongside trans women and would continue to do so, but for their rights as the category trans women, not as women. We can see that when we start eroding the definition what is a biological woman away our hard fought rights vanish in a poof of smoke. How can we take an employer to court for sexual discrimination if men can get pregnant too? Never mind that the vast vast majority of men can’t and it is still women being shafted, but without the language to name our biological oppression how can we fight it??

Please stay on the boards, we need more trans allies, we’re happy to converse with you. We don’t hate you, it’s not about you. It’s never been about trans people it’s about women.

It's been great talking to everyone. Just to be clear I don't want any cookies. I'm just trying to make sense of this all. It does affect wider family and friends (children) so I am trying to learn from all sides.

I'm going swimming, speak later.

Flowers to everyone.

Italiangreyhound · 20/01/2018 16:12

There is a section called www.mumsnet.com/Talk/telly_addicts

We could continue to discuss Transformation Street.

Italiangreyhound · 20/01/2018 16:11

@48harv there are lots of bits on this site. if you want to go on talking why not start a thread on another place.

48harv · 20/01/2018 15:55

Dear Italiangreyhound, when I joined this forum it was never my intention to degrade, subjugate, or belittle anybody,
I felt I could help in the understanding of people like me and what we are about, instead I seem to have made it worse, I am a genuine person who tries to go through life without making ripples, I admit I did think twice before joining, I do respect all women, except perhaps Rose West. And others like her. Maybe my literary skill are not up to the job, you came across as very nice and it’s been a pleasure to chat with you. I will stay on the site but less visibly thank you.

Italiangreyhound · 20/01/2018 15:55

Thanks Wink (I am diabetic!)

Ereshkigal · 20/01/2018 15:48

Yes.

Italiangreyhound · 20/01/2018 15:44

What's all this getting cookies? Is it virtue signalling by another name!

Italiangreyhound · 20/01/2018 15:41

@LangCleg DoD I mention mental health conditions? I don't think so. Someone else mentioned autistic conditions. Actually I think there are a plethora if reasons people now identify as trans. It's hugely complex. I don't see it as one thing. Trouble is issues now are causing issues for woman and trans women.

And I don't think it is at all fair to get 48 to identify where she is from. She may not even be in the UK!

Italiangreyhound · 20/01/2018 15:33

Yes, @Datun "It is a very specific characteristic for (some) transwomen to refer to themselves as girls. Over and over. " That was very present in the tv programme although they did say trans girls (a group of trans women aged 40-50 I guess).

@48harv the fact you have stayed to listen is good. Flowers

Maybe we need a new thread to explore issues in a balanced way.

@SophoclesTheFox I totally get where you are and how you got there. People like me have a lot to learn.

Maybe I am too much kid gloves.

I am looking for the points of contact. Biology is not a point of contact. I'm not fooled, honestly.

But I am looking for connection and understanding.

I do take a lot from what you and others say.

I am not a passive decided person I am a sponge looking to learn! But I am so very much concerned for others feelings. it's not a blessing, a bit of a curse!

But in terms of safety and protection I am totally with the needs for women not to be too nice. To me it is so much easier to be nice in a forum. It's a different arena. Hope that makes sense.

Datun · 20/01/2018 15:13

The rest of the post is of course true. I feel a bit nitpicky pointing this out as I know you used always as shorthand really.

Yes it's true, that Curry gets it.

In terms of the erosion of women's rights.

I was going to write a longer post, but I deleted it, because even to my ears it sounds a little hair splitting.

So I'll leave it at that. Yes people like Curry understand. And I wish there were more of them.

Vicxy · 20/01/2018 15:11

Ahaha a fitting typo for once Grin

Vicxy · 20/01/2018 15:02

The sense of security leads the transwomen into saying something controversial. Always. It's never far from the surface. You just have to wait.

I have to disagree with this slightly Datun. I wouldn't say its always at all. We have a member here (who I unfortunately have not seen posting for a while) who is a transwoman and never ever goes down this route. You mentioned her in your earlier post. Curry. Now she is a breath of fresh air amongst all of this madness. She accepts that she is male and does seem a genuine ally to women. Not one saying she is an ally to get cookies or validation, a genuine ally.

The rest of the post is of course true. I feel a bit nitpicky pointing this out as I know you used always as shorthand really.

SophoclesTheFox · 20/01/2018 14:52

men pause is a female experience

Vicxy - your typo made me snort Grin

Don't you start!
