"Look how far we have come" says Paris Lees in a feature celebrating 100 years since women have had the right to vote in the UK.

Em except - your sex have always had the right to vote.

Or am I missing something?

I don't know what can be done ButteredScone, but I do feel a bit less despairing about it after being on this thread. As pallisers says, for many this unquestioning, wholehearted acceptance an intrinsic part of the right-thinking, 'woke' identity they share with their peer group and so no amount of common sense or mature maternal wisdom is going to change their views. I guess time, and the increasingly outrageous fuckwittery of the more high-profile TIMs (suffragettes!! FFS...Angry) may do that, but in the meantime I find speakout's view that her beliefs and thoughts are her own and don't need to be shared very liberating. That's going to be my approach from now on.

SophoclesTheFox · 06/01/2018 07:10

Trans women are the new suffragettes?

What the actual fuck?

You are the opposite of suffragettes. You are anti-suffragettes. You are part of an authoritarian land grab on women's rights and you don't even have the wit to grasp that.

Go step on a lego, India and Paris. Go step on a fucking lego. Twice.

ButteredScone · 06/01/2018 00:45

So depressing reading about teen views on this. What can be done?

Chardonnaymoi · 06/01/2018 00:28

Vote with your feet. I will never buy Vogue again after this publication.

Thermostatpolice · 05/01/2018 23:44

What?! Just when I thought I couldn't be more offended, along comes India Willoughby. I had Willoughby pegged as bog standard sexist (leg shaving comments and so on) but would not have expected something as disgraceful as this.

EamonnWright · 05/01/2018 23:30

That should peak quite a few.

Ereshkigal · 05/01/2018 23:29

Hopefully that might peak a few more.

Ereshkigal · 05/01/2018 23:28

Nope. We can't have anything.

Thehairthebod · 05/01/2018 23:28

I can't believe India said that actually - it's so offensive!

Thehairthebod · 05/01/2018 23:28

Wow, so women can't even have the suffragettes any more?!

DeleteOrDecay · 05/01/2018 23:25

(Referring to quentin's link)

DeleteOrDecay · 05/01/2018 23:25

What a fucking disgraceful and offensive thing to say.

Ereshkigal · 05/01/2018 23:23

Stupid fucker is Martin Luther King too, I heard.

Boredofwinternow · 05/01/2018 23:20

We, white men with a mental health condition/sexual fetish, are the new suffragettes.

Fuck.Right.Off.

Ereshkigal · 05/01/2018 23:18

I can only assume trying to out-Paris Paris.

Ereshkigal · 05/01/2018 23:17

That can absolutely fuck off. Goady trolling narcissistic prick.

QuentinSummers · 05/01/2018 23:15

It's a thing

Shock fuck off

Ereshkigal · 05/01/2018 23:12

We are, whether Paris and Paris's handmaidens like it or not. We're the only people fighting for all women.

Boredofwinternow · 05/01/2018 22:52

Just watched Suffragette with Carey Mulligan. How dare these deluded entitled men compare themselves to these brave, spirited, fearless women. It’s a fucking travesty. Feminists are the suffragettes. The ones speaking up against these dangerous, misogynistic men who want to take so much away from us.

thebewilderness · 05/01/2018 22:15

8th rule of misogyny: Men are whatever men say they are and women are whatever men say they are,

InionEile · 05/01/2018 21:47

Sad to hear of teenage kids drinking the trans Kool-Ade to such a degree. It does seem to be a generational divide. My DC are still little but I do find differences even between me and friends who are 5 years younger in their mid-30s.

The groupthink on the Caitlyn Jenner story was the dividing line for me. Everyone I knew jumped on the bandwagon. I gave up reading many feminist sites like Jezebel as a result because of their rush to embrace her 'bravery'.

An older generation feminist wrote a great article criticizing Jenner for trying to reduce femininity to stereotypes about make-up and dresses and she was flamed from all sides because of it. I thought she made very valid points and spoke sense. I was in the minority among friends however... Jezebel's response was 'you don't get to tell Caitlyn Jenner how to be a woman, she can decide its meaning in whatever way works for her'. Confused

I haven't read the site since. Most mainstream feminist sites are now fully co-opted into the trans agenda. The feminist boards here on Mumnset are one of the few holdouts... which is the main reason why I still come on here after all these years!

Timefortea99 · 05/01/2018 21:18

Younger people jump on board with the trans agenda because it is the trendy thing to do. They may not even believe it but they stay on message because it is what you do at that age. Trans women are not women. They are people who feel they were born the wrong sex, but mentally feeling something when your physical self says the opposite does not make you a woman. It is outrageous that an article commemorating an important event in women's lives has been hijacked by a man. However much you sympathise with what must be a constant desire to be somebody else, all this moving in on women's spaces, events, means that sympathies are waning. As someone said upthread - it is all women that have to budge up, make room.

InionEile · 05/01/2018 21:15

So true that the fashion media are more open to the idea of a putting a transwoman dressed up to look like a conventionally attractive woman on their cover than they would be to putting a 'cis' woman on the cover who does not meet fashion's ridiculous beauty standards. That's the kind of hateful misogyny that is our lived reality now. Same with Caitlyn Jenner - an elderly 'cis' man with wrinkles and a sagging body is less acceptable to the fashion biz than an elderly man dressed up, made up and photoshopped to look like a conventionally attractive woman.

I live for the day when we will see a transman on the cover of GQ or Esquire focused on celebrating manly achievements... oh hold on, that will never happen because it's only us women who have to redefine ourselves and our spaces to accommodate a subset of the male gender. Men can ignore transmen and carry on as before!

pallisers · 05/01/2018 21:14

Thanks nineteen and absinthe. The funny thing is I would say I had a relatively easy life as a woman biologically speaking (my mother had horrendous constant periods, in a time before ST so used rags culminating in a hysterectomy, life-threatening blood clot, and early menopause). I would say my life was just the norm - periods are painful but the world expects you to perform as if they aren't happening, childbirth is scary and dangerous sometimes, breastfeeding can be painful, menopause is a pain etc. but when added together and compared to my dh's experience of becoming an adult and having children, and then becoming an older adult ....

thebewilderness · 05/01/2018 20:51

Women representing women for 100 years has been a small window in time. Is anyone surprised that men argue that they are better able to represent women than women are?
If people really believed what they say, that trans identified males are women, they would not be submitting to their male dominance display and would be treating them the way they do all other women. But they don't. They prioritize the males because that is what society conditions them to do.
