Brilliant brilliant article

wingsoverscotland.com/the-law-that-nobody-wants/

Please - anyone on twitter, can you retweet this and copy in Nicola Sturgeon @NicolaSturgeon

We need to get the Nationalists AND the Unionist talking about this.

I think it’s important to engage with the politicians rather than Wings. Looking st Mhari Hunter’s reply to him it seems that they think they are being progressive and that not much will change for anyone except transgender people.

It’s very important that they hear the concerns of ordinary individuals and not just people with a high profile twitter account.

HirplesWithHaggis · 03/01/2018 18:43

But he's quite popular with the Scottish Government. Or perhaps they're just horrified and keeping an eye on him! Grin

He's not an SNP voter (what with living in Bath an' all). He's not an SNP member. No reason the Scottish Government should pay him any heed.

Apart from those ever-increasing reader numbers, of course.

birdbandit · 03/01/2018 18:37

He has a huge audience, so his voice, in this debate, I welcome.

He's not the only controversial person who is brave enough to shout about things which many shy from.

BarrackerBarmer · 03/01/2018 18:34

About 'Reverend' I assumed it was ironic. I've been known to dub myself Empress when the whim hit.

The article is spot on. Regardless of his political leanings it will be annoying if another ally turns out to be a bigot. I'll spend a short while on his site to see what I can find aside from the Scottish independence issue.

AssignedPuuurfectAtBirth · 03/01/2018 18:33

'Savage but accurate' is my impression of his article on trans activists. According to my pro indy friends, that's his style. My unionist friends/family despise him. I do think his article was savage but accurate and I'm going to judge him, on this issue, like that.

For me, this is not the time to be partisan. And anyway, I'm fucking sick of the independence stuff, on both sides

Is there anything to suggest his views come from intolerance rather than evidence?

He is very acerbic, especially on twitter. However, his blog posts are always fully referenced so you can independently check what he says.

Those virulently against him tend to be on the other side of the Scottish independence debate.

Not sure Barracker. I have friends who are pretty dedicated to the cause on both sides of the Indy debate. I tend to run like fuck away from it these days, but will investigate on this issue.

Have to say I am very dismayed that the SNP are pursuing this without any real investigation. I intend to respond to the consultation in the next week or so though. I suppose they should have some credit for doing that at least.

But to the uninitiated I'm still none the wiser about why I should apparently be cautious about the writings of this chap.

Is there anything to suggest his views come from intolerance rather than evidence?

WitchesHatRim · 03/01/2018 17:48

Yes, his blog specialises in exposing the cesspool of vitriol and untruths that is mainstream media vis a vis Scottish independence, and he backs it up with facts - that's why Unionists hate him so much

Glad you know assume why 'unionists' dislike him. I know of plenty of pro indi campaigners that can't stand him either.

Don't let that stop your rant though.

AssignedPuuurfectAtBirth · 03/01/2018 17:37

I appreciate you loathe all things SNP Lass. I'm more than happy to harness all views in this case, because the 'left' have thrown us to the lions. If the SNP start to realise that they will lose women voters over this, that's a plus in my view. As it is, I won't vote for them while they support Self ID and I'm certainly not the only one.

I said 'Hooray' because I know he does have a following; it was a savage article and I want as many people as possible to understand what is going on here. Doesn't mean I have to support all his politics.

Do join the FB discussion if you can, there's a TA on there coming out with aaaall the cliches www.facebook.com/WingsOverScotland/posts/1622113607842979?comment_id=1622390434481963&notif_id=1514998958827484&notif_t=feedback_reaction_generic

HirplesWithHaggis · 03/01/2018 16:49

He's on the side of the radfems/all women in this one... Grin

He's been accused of transphobia (for supporting women re gender ID) and is currently suing Kezia Dugdale (former leader of Scottish Labour) for defamation for accusing him of homophobia. It has been speculated that's one of the reasons Kez went on I'm a Celebrity - she needs the money.

Yes, his blog specialises in exposing the cesspool of vitriol and untruths that is mainstream media vis a vis Scottish independence, and he backs it up with facts - that's why Unionists hate him so much.

Have a look for yourself, and make your own minds up, there's a link in the OP.

I think that’s a bit harsh.

Depends if you have been on the end of some of his vitriol from Somerset

It’s much more useful to contribute to the consultation rather than get involved in another tedious twitter war.

Granted it’s not as much funGrin

PigletWasPoohsFriend · 03/01/2018 15:14

And you do know "the reverend" is another of those professional scotsman who like pontificating about how residents of Scotland should vote without living there himself?

This.

BarrackerBarmer · 03/01/2018 15:12

I've never heard of him Lass. In what way are his other views objectionable?

HirplesWithHaggis · 03/01/2018 15:08

Shock, Stu lives in Bath. Shock Shock Shock Plainly he can't follow Scottish politics, then. Or, y'know, have an opinion on the GRA.
