Feminism: Sex and gender discussions

Can someone help me argue this on twitter

In light of the Lewis Hamilton furore I posted a picture of my son in his princess dress with something along the lines of let's stop gendering 'stuff' and let kids be kids.

I've now found myself in a twitter row with someone who says by referring to my child as my son I have 'gendered' him.

Apparently 'boy' is not the same as male and is a gendered term.

Am I losing my mind or does boy simply mean 'a male child'?

I should just step away from the keyboard but it's doing my head in.

Twitter is terrible. Should be called Troller.

Even seeing Owen Jones' name annoys me. Has he got a 'thing' for Transgenders? I know im being a dick asking but hes far far too keen imo and as a man he comes across as such.

cromeyellow0 · 28/12/2017 21:49

religion
Transubstantiation is similar to transgenderism. Just as bread can become the body of Jesus and wine his blood, so Lily Madigan can become a woman and a lesbian.

Orthodox catholics will recite this doctrine. However, one suspects they don't really experience cannibalism when they consume the host. Likewise we know that Owen Jones et al. don't really perceive Lily as a lady.

I read that Twitter thread, I don't think you need any advice, you explained the facts perfectly. You are discussing it with an idiot who argues man/boy is a social construct ie gender. Give that person a mirror and I suspect they would happily argue (unconvincingly) with themselves about who the real person is.

Coyoacan · 28/12/2017 21:02

I think that is the problem, as soon as anyone questions transgenderism in any way people just go into attack mode.

I mean it's obviously that you are referring to the dress when you say to stop gendering 'stuff'. But then they go off on the fact that you should not refer to the sex of your son.

catgirl1976 · 28/12/2017 20:09

This is very true

It's far worse than religion these days. You can say you think the idea if God is a lot of nonsense and can openly mock it. Try that with a transgender and you could very well find yourself out of a job and having a charge sheet in your back pocket.

catgirl1976 · 28/12/2017 19:51

It is like a religion or a cult

Just tell them they are entitled to their religious beliefs and magical thinking but must learn not to push it on other people.

Mumof56 · 28/12/2017 19:10

A female

Hmm
catgirl1976 · 28/12/2017 19:09

Ah they are so cute like that Menthol

Sadly DS has outgrown his dress so I will disengage with twitter loons and build some lego with him instead ;0

You're far too nice tbh. Not on Twitter often as there's not enough space to type the rubbish I do but the Gendercriticaldad(?) guy was always pretty spot on I found.

MentholBreeze · 28/12/2017 19:02

Yep, you've been clear, you've been polite, disengage.

I, too, have a lovely picture of my youngest in his fairy costume, casually waiting at the bus stop.

you're right - they are a loon

I will disengage

Thanks for reminding me that I'm not actually insane ;0

Hmm, I see they are a they/them. Honestly, don't waste your time, they're bored and looking for an argument.

Always best to not engage with that type. It pisses them off.

MrsDoylesPumpkinSpiceLatte · 28/12/2017 18:53

Although I've not yet put my head over the Twitter parapet, I just don't have the energy to argue with people who believe that up is down. I'd be too tempted to just say 'Do you really actually believe the things you're writing? Please explain how it makes sense to you?'

That person's response calls them out for what they are: you say a boy is not a role, they say that is the very definition of transgender, thus proving your point.

catgirl1976 · 28/12/2017 18:35

Oh they are back

Conversation has gone thus;

ME; A boy is a male child. A female child cannot be a boy. A boy is not a Role, a costume or a feeling. It's. A. Male. Child. Nothing more nothing less.

THEM; The thing you just said is not possible is the very definition of transgender. Multiple full stops are not going to make you any less wrong I’m afraid.

ME; Boy refers to the male sex. The definition of a boy is a male child. Boy has nothing to do with gender. Sex = biological body. Gender = socially constructed roles. Gender is an oppressive hierarchy.

Excellent.

catgirl1976 · 28/12/2017 18:26

I've not had a reply since I asked what a boy was if not a young, human male.

Which is good for my blood pressure ;)

OP posts:
Datun · 28/12/2017 18:25

Tell them they are confusing masculine, which is gender, with boy which is the male sex.

NotSupposedtobeHere · 28/12/2017 18:24

A lot of this crap is because people keep mixing up sex and gender.

Just keep repeating

Sex = biological body

Gender = socially constructed roles

Gender is an oppressive hierarchy

MrsDoylesPumpkinSpiceLatte · 28/12/2017 18:23

People will get into arguments about literally anything on Twitter particularly regarding gender issues, I can't believe some of the things people will swear to be absolutely true, I think half of them must be bots or trolls.
Don't engage, they're just not worth it.

I'll post that Monger. I'm not sure it will make much difference. You can't argue with wilful obstinance I guess.
