Feminism: Sex and gender discussions

The trans movement in 30, 40, 50 years...?

I'm new to the feminist boards but have been reading with interest these last several months.

I wonder whether the trans-movement will get greater with time at the expense of women's rights, or implode altogether when more and more young people speak out about ending up in irreversibly botched bodies later down the line...?

I honestly have little clue, but would be interested in discussing with people. Thanks in advance for your replies!

I think the trans movement is going to win

If the zealots of trans ideology were to get everything they want, there would be hundreds of kids in the UK like Jazz Jennings (but without the celebrity and the revenue streams). The inevitable detransitions coming into public awareness would cause real damage to the movement.

Just to be clear, trans ideology and gender dysphoria are not the same thing.

TheXXFactor · 23/12/2017 08:16

young folk are using this to show how unhappy they are with the current status quo

That's a good point, but unfortunately the TRAs are reinforcing gender stereotypes. There is a massive contradiction in the trans movement - "gender is a spectrum and we are all non-binary" and "anyone who is gender non-conforming must be the opposite sex" cannot both be true. It's possible that this will eventually dawn on TRAs though, so far, they have proved steadfastly immune to logic Grin

yy, class action central.

There are probably canny lawyers already planning for it.

LizzieSiddal · 23/12/2017 07:33

Well exactly terfing, it’s appalling.

But I’d rather it be that than years of horrific incidences being endured by females in females “safe” spaces, by “trans women”.

terfing · 23/12/2017 06:40

Ffs...

Ian Huntley may be the savior of feminism SadAngry

bambambini · 23/12/2017 03:48

I think the trans movement is going to win. I do wonder though if it’s all an awkward but necessary journey to gender being cast aside. Non binary as in opposition to “cis” is nonsense as everyone is non binary but young folk are using this to show how unhappy they are with the current status quo

The real issue as I see it is the lack of reporting.

We won't know how many places on scholarships, company boards, political committees, awards, etc etc are going to transwomen, because we are no longer allowed to point out that they are transwomen.

That, and the rewriting of history (the disappearance of all "deadnaming" on google searches) is going to make it pretty much impossible to prove any affect at all.

Violence by transwomen will not be allowed to be named as such. Whereas the trans movement continues to be allowed to point out violence against transpeople Hmm

MrsTerryPratchett · 23/12/2017 01:05

I think looking at sectors is interesting.

Sports. I think we will go a long way down a road to biologically male winners in every category before it's acknowledged. Because no one gives a shit about women's sports.

Children. I really hope the gay community wake up and start seeing transing young children is often erasing gay children. But it's going to take some very brave gay and lesbians people to stand up.

Prisons, shelters and refuges. This one worries me because of how little people care about offenders and the homeless. I think more women will be assaulted and pushed into very scary living situations before anything is done.

Toilets. Hopefully unisex, fully-closed cubicles.

Women in positions of authority. I am going to LOVE seeing how many awards, places in university, scholarships, political positions and business accolades will disproportionately go to transwomen. It's going to be a gift to men.

Maryz · 23/12/2017 00:56

I think we should look at this in sectors.

There might be some movement in prisons and refuges. Probably as the result of some horrible violence Sad

I think it will plough on through sport, leaving women' sport meaningless. My hope is that some brave person will start a "sport for biological women" that may eventually get back to where we are now.

The really worrying thing is the potential child abuse. The Charlie Gard threads on here taught me that the attitude to parental "rights" as opposed to "responsibilities" are very different in the UK (and the rest of Europe) than in the US. I really hope that parents who want cute girls, or don't want gay boys will be curbed in Europe, because pushing your child into transition must be the ultimate in child abuse.

Xenophile · 23/12/2017 00:41

Sadly, I fear that the backlash will only come once a child is severely publicly damaged by this bullshit. Then I hope that not only the charities who encouraged it, but also the loudest cheerleaders get sued into penury. It won't change the fact that you'll have a large number of now permanently mutilated young people, but it might help to mitigate the worst effects it has on their lives.

LizzieSiddal · 23/12/2017 00:01

As others have said I hope the extreme trans demands, will reach mainstream awareness very soon. They’re will then be a huge backlash and sense will prevail.

I’m hoping Ian Huntley will, very soon, try to sue the Govt because he wants to transition and move to a woman’s prison. The press will go ape shit as will the public.

CertainHalfDesertedStreets · 23/12/2017 00:00

Oh god.

Now I agree with The Express...

ILoveDolly · 22/12/2017 23:53

It's an interesting question, because in the general provincial 'real world' its usually a bit of a non issue. I don't think anyone will go for the new world as desired by transactivists.

Betti935 · 22/12/2017 23:51

Am hoping that the sooner everyone knows that gender reassignment is the equivalent of lobotomies the better. Can't come soon enough.

The Express is making that exact comparison. So glad to see some actual sense on the trans issue in the mainstream media:

I'd be surprised if the NHS isn't making these kids or their parents sign forms before proceeding with therapy.

You can't sign away your rights though.

nauticant · 22/12/2017 23:03

That's a fair comment guardianfree. If there is a return to science-based and rational thinking, the rewriting of what went on will be absolutely epic.

irretating · 22/12/2017 22:38

Yes, I am very worried about the amount of lawsuits the NHS will be getting... sad

I'd be surprised if the NHS isn't making these kids or their parents sign forms before proceeding with therapy. American clinics do because the hormone therapies are being used for another purpose other than the one intended.

guardianfree · 22/12/2017 22:37

I hope that people are keeping and storing screenshots and information about those doing the manipulating, peddling the lies and misinformation, handing out the drugs and failing to protect those below the age of consent. These children will need this information once they reach adulthood and are able to comprehend what has been done to them before they were old enough to understand the consequences.

ItsAllGoingToBeFine · 22/12/2017 22:31

10 years, 15 tops

I think it might be sooner than that. I feel terribly sorry for Jazz but I really don't think they are in a good place at the moment, and I don't think they'll be able to take much more before something gives.

What's happening to them is absolutely horrific, and Jazz is of an age now to begin to realise the impact of what has been done to them Sad

BatShite · 22/12/2017 22:25

It will implode, as this generation of transkids grows up and realises what has been done to them. There will bean absolutely huge scandal and questions will be asked about how so many people were duped into abusing kids, as thats what it is basically. 10 years, 15 tops.

terfing · 22/12/2017 22:18

Yes, I am very worried about the amount of lawsuits the NHS will be getting... Sad

CertainHalfDesertedStreets · 22/12/2017 22:15

We live in litigious times. People are going to SUE THE ARSES off anyone who did ANYTHING to ANYONE under 18. And the sue some more arses off anyone who did anything to anyone or advised anyone or failed to prevent anyone from taking hormones/transitioning etc.

And that will be the tip of the iceberg as it will then become a Rotherham/Hillsborough style inquiry where questions will be asked about who knew what when.

I am really not sure why supposedly intelligent people in government and in the NHS/NICE can't see that coming.

brizzledrizzle · 22/12/2017 22:14

It will be like the view we have now of the sex abuse scandals of the 1970s and 1980s.

TheXXFactor · 22/12/2017 22:14

I hope that, in 30 years time, the trans movement won't exist - in the sense that we will have realised that gender is rubbish and that everyone should be able to live/dress as they want, without having to maintain the fiction that they belong to the opposite sex. Sadly, the trans movement seems hellbent on reinforcing gender stereotypes instead.
