This is what it has come to. A women thrown out of a women's network party because of a man, or more accurately, a boy's feelings might be hurt. What the fuck is going on?

The thing that Lily doesn't get (or more likely is deliberately choosing to ignore) is that violence against trans people is a different problem to violence against women. The violence comes from different places, happens for different reasons. Which is why Lily Madigan should have stood for trans officer. Because she is trans.

Lily's tweet linked above really does make it look like she is saying 'women, your problems don't mean shit, it's all about the trans women'.

hipsterfun · 15/12/2017 15:45

If Labour is so hopeless as to let this shit go unchallenged, they deserve it. And I say that as a life-long Labour voter.

WTAFisthisshit · 15/12/2017 15:25

Sadly I didn't miss Lily's claims to be able to get pregnant. I have no idea if Lily is delusional or trolling but I do know the Labour Party is fucked and I wonder if this had anything to do with the tories overtaking them in the polls?

BeyondAssignation · 15/12/2017 15:23

Did you miss lily saying he can get pregnant, then?

He is delusional, or trolling on a rather large scale.

SparklyUnicornTractors · 15/12/2017 15:20

Madigan seriously believes there are more transwomen than there are biological women who have been assaulted.........

Oh my actual God. I've been reading the posts from some droppers in today and thinking the stupidity and inflexibility of thinking is jaw dropping but that's just plain delusional.

We're back to how do you deal with batshit MiLs and other people with major 'issues' aren't we - you can't reason with someone who lives in such a totally distorted and subjective reality and can't take on board actual facts.

WTAFisthisshit · 15/12/2017 14:05

Ffs this person who represents WOMAN thinks that trans woman are a larger proportion of the population than woman who have been assaulted!

Are Labour actually going to DO anything about this?

Makes me begin to wonder about the "association with bad guys" too. If I write to the Labour Party, are they gonna kick DH out?

zippies · 15/12/2017 00:27

Horrible and insane that this is happening but you have to love her reply SmileSmileSmile it has cheered me up 👋😀SmileSmile

ItsAllGoingToBeFine · 14/12/2017 23:45

A different labour person, this is beginning to look like a purge.

"I've just been called in by the local Labour group for a Change of Circumstances interview and will probably now get thrown of the panel of approved councillor candidates. Why? Because I'm not afraid to say women don't have dicks". t.co/TgQDaXe1Ds

pisacake · 14/12/2017 23:35

You linked to the wrong person

OlennasWimple · 14/12/2017 23:27

Lucy Bannerman (Times) has tweeted about the incident - still no comment that I can see from Labour Women

Ereshkigal · 14/12/2017 18:21

Screencaps on Twitter of her abusive and harassing comments, borderline death threats,

If they're on twitter you won't mind linking to them, will you?

Ereshkigal · 14/12/2017 18:19

I've wondered how he would respond if I wrote to him about transwomen abortion rights. Or transwomen period poverty. Or transwomen inclusion in breastfeeding groups. Or transwomen being able to access appropriate contraception services.

Yes I've thought about doing this.

BeyondAssignation · 14/12/2017 09:29

If the leaflets had been about, say, bad effects of Brexit, would VA have been thrown out then? As I'd assume there would be people there who disagreed with what they said...?

BeyondAssignation · 14/12/2017 09:27

Ignoring what is on the leaflets for a second, is it actually against the rules of a political gathering to, umm, discuss politics? Is a political gathering a "safe space"? Confused

christinarossetti · 14/12/2017 09:12

Did LM actually ask that VA be asked to leave? I got the sense that Olivia Bailey asked VA to leave, on the back of her distributing leaflets about the GRA.

The Facebook stuff only came to light the next day.

Datun that's it! I knew you'd know Grin thank you.

RogueBiscuit · 13/12/2017 23:50

The real life conversations I've had about this haven't gone well.I've considered approaching the subject from a different direction. My mp ignored my letter about women's safety concerns.

I've wondered how he would respond if I wrote to him about transwomen abortion rights. Or transwomen period poverty. Or transwomen inclusion in breastfeeding groups. Or transwomen being able to access appropriate contraception services.

At times I have been tempted to join in " trans women are women, and I know this because my husband transitioned last year and now she's pregnant".

Is this the one you mean? (If it’s not the top item, scroll down).

Ok I was at the party - I don't notice anything that was going on although I saw both Venice and LM there - so the asking to leave must have been done pretty quietly - it wasn't a women only party BTW - I think without knowing exactly what was said it that was wrong for Venice to be asked to leave - on the other hand how did she expect the conversation with LM to go?

pisacake · 13/12/2017 22:01

"Considering the context, I think she's actually spot on."

Yes quite, I mean when there are LOTS of people on MN who called Madigan a dickhead over his behaviour, it's hardly an unreasonable thought.

Certainly nothing compared to the lies and misogynistic abuse, say JK Rowling was subjected to for apparently liking a gender-critical tweet.

I have been looking for the article that gives that information but can't track it down. I'm hoping Datun or one of the other geniuses here will remember, it was a fairly academic one looking at the population groups alongside their sexual orientation.
