Being told I'm a ciswoman

My first trans related thread, well more of a rant. So please be niceGrin

Got into a 'debate' with someone on a Facebook page I follow about the term 'cis'. Apparently I'm no longer allowed to refer to myself as just female/woman. I am now a 'ciswoman'. So far I've been told:

  • that the term 'cis' is a scientific term (oh how I laughed at that one).
  • that as I'm not trans or non binary then I am a cis woman and that's that
  • that I'm wrong for finding the term 'cis' offensive and refusing to accept being called it.

It's just infuriating. Why shouldn't I be allowed to refer to myself as a biological woman. I don't need a silly, shitty prefix to identify myselfAngry I'm a woman, we've existed since the dawn of time.

For years I've been saying that the increase in MtF is due to women taking the hormonal contraceptive pills before realising they were pregnant. Flooding the male foetus with female hormones

Er, hormonal contraceptives essentially work by tricking the body into thinking it is already pregnant, so that it doesn't ovulate. So they are 'exposing' foetuses to exactly the same hormones as in a normal pregnancy.

Wayward: "For years I've been saying that the increase in MtF is due to women taking the hormonal contraceptive pills before realising they were pregnant. Flooding the male foetus with female hormones."

So how do you explain the sudden increase in FtM?

Collidascope · 05/12/2017 10:16

"Are you looking for a genuine home for a proper and healthy new born baby adoption?"

Well, that certainly sounds legit.

Male bollocks, definitely Male ones.

quite frankly that's a load of bollocks
Male bollocks or female bollocks cos apparently both exist...?

misscockerspaniel · 01/12/2017 19:44

Anyone is welcome to call me miss, mrs, ms, madam, ma'am, girl, lady, woman, female or feminine. For me, the cis word is on the same level as the n-word and it was coined with malicious intent.

Lancelottie · 01/12/2017 16:24

Sounds very sensible, Clare.
Am I right in thinking from your user name that you have XY chromosomes but are a woman? Would 'intersex woman' be your preference, if a description were needed?

For years I've been saying that the increase in MtF is due to women taking the hormonal contraceptive pills before realising they were pregnant. Flooding the male foetus with female hormones.

So, why the increase in FtM (mainly in teens) if there is some kind of scientific explanation for it all?

And where are all the middle aged FtM transitioners too. The excuse used for why there are loads of older men 'coming out; as trans now is that apparently they weren't accepted until now. Surely it would stand to reason that there would also be plenty of late transitioning FtMs..

I still maintain that this whole thing is just social contagion. Not dissimilar to how when I was at school, half the girls were apparently bi. It was trendy and got you attention. Much like trans is now.

Obviously people with sex dysphoria are entirely different though. Its not about attention and stereotypes for them, its entirely medical.

A wonderful tweet I say yesterday

Granted, for most of human history, being a woman hasn't been defined as having XX chromosomes. But for most of human history gravity wasn't defined as 6.674x10⁻¹¹ m³⋅kg⁻¹⋅s⁻² and people still knew the difference between up and down.

Ereshkigal · 01/12/2017 13:04

The problem is you wanting to be too nice and not just owning what you're saying that yes, it is (by definition) abnormal to be a transwoman. Abnormal does not have to have pejorative connotations. It simply means it is a small enough minority to not be normal. It's a statistical thing, not a value judgement.

That's exactly it Kitty. Great point.

WaywardOn3 · 01/12/2017 09:38

Eventually I'm going to have the last laugh with all this trans BS.

For years I've been saying that the increase in MtF is due to women taking the hormonal contraceptive pills before realising they were pregnant. Flooding the male foetus with female hormones.

Scientists have recently found that these pills cause male fish to adopt a lot of female behaviours when it's introduced to their water... how long it'll be before they can say the same for the human population I'm not sure but hopefully sooner rather than later :-)

FizzyWaterAndElderflower · 01/12/2017 09:33

Ask them to define the terms. I guarantee they can't and you're trans, and so is every member of your family.

In fact, if they just talk about identifying as, then, by their rules, you're probably not a woman either - you're going to be agender.

I play the engaged, helpful, but confused and in need of definitions person - who's just trying to figure out what means what - and it's always them that stops talking first, because they can't give a definition that justifies them calling me 'cis' and maintain their stance.

OddMollie · 01/12/2017 09:20

I came in to ask the same question as acorns above. Was thinking the other day that I'd never heard a male described as as cis-man. Is this a thing?

Ekphrasis · 01/12/2017 09:07

And as said upthread, so you’d get a trans woman insisting on woman and insisting that a woman is a cis gendered female...

Ekphrasis · 01/12/2017 09:04

I had this exact moment in the middle of the night.

A guardian report / film about a woman with facial hair and pcos who’d decided to embrace it and grow it for Movember was referred to as ‘a cis gendered female’ in the blurb.

And yet you bet a report on men with breast cancer or enlarged breasts would be referred to as men.

Surely in this situation it’s apt to say woman? Comments were quite frustrating. Any woman who said - ‘err just say woman’ was shouted down and told to go look up intersectional feminism

MrGHardy · 01/12/2017 09:02

Re marginalization - so why aren't they complaining about disabled people being called disabled. And anyway, that quote basically admits that they know there is a difference, but we should just pretend there isn't, so that they don't feel marginalized. Which also proves that they themselves are transphobic, because trans is so bad that you feel marginalized.

DontBuyANewMumCashmere · 01/12/2017 08:55

Let's assume they just want to be called women and they intend only to bring out the ciswoman when there is a need to differentiate between TW and natal woman.
Why not then describe the TW as TW and not the natal woman as Ciswoman?
If it's just a silly descriptor label...

It is that defining that as normal makes anyone else 'abnormal', and that marginalises people.
So they're happy to define a man with a penis who feels like a woman as a 'normal woman' yet calling born women ciswoman.
But I suppose you can't marginalise 51% of a population can you...

MrGHardy · 01/12/2017 08:46

"Why do they get to be offended and we don't".

They get to be offended because they're the liberal left and have moral superiority, and really good people.

Shit I get why people voted Trump. I still wouldn't, but I get it and that's a sad realization.
