Yes, I know he is a troll... But he is really fucking winding me up at the moment. He annoys me more than people like Katie Hopkins do!

He has been tweeting a lot today, and the past few weeks, about the importance of transgender acceptance. However, he isn't engaging with the many people disagreeing with him! He just posts another passive-aggressive tweet in response to concerns.

I just know we are going to get another shitty pro-trans article from him soon...

(I obviously do support trans people, but I am against the ideology!)

Did Owen Jones really say that he thinks lesbians should have sex with trans women with penises but that he won't have sex with trans men with vaginas? Does anybody have a source for that? I thought he seemed like a reasonable person but if that is true I've gone off him completely.

KarlosKKrinkelbeim · 20/11/2017 18:25

Let’s face it Owen Jones is just a rolling ball of personality and psychological problems. It’s obvious as soon he appears on tv it opens his mouth. He is one screwed up little specimen. Politics to him is not a vehicle for social change. It is a vehicle for bullying people he dislikes. This is why he signs up to the trans agenda. It enables him to bully women without owning his misogyny publicly.

PricklyBall · 20/11/2017 17:46

I'm still getting over the sheer brass-necked cheek of the Owen Jones tweet I looked at earlier in which he said that he had never seen any TRA suggest that lesbians ought to have PIV with transwomen with penises (with the clear implication on his part that it was a made up batshit conspiracy theory on the part of feminists).

I simply do not believe he has never heard of Riley J Dennis. Dennis is "mainstream" in liberal feminist circles, is a regular writer on Everyday Feminism (or Everyday Handmaidenry as I prefer to think of it) and has made a series of youtube videos entitled "your genital preferences are transphobic." This is not esoteric stuff from a few fringe nutjobs on the further reaches of the internet, this is mainstream in the circles OJ mixes in. I don't believe the little creep when he says that he's never come across this. He is lying.

Look at the illustrious feminists Owen is citing! snort

Columnist cage fights to the death! Little Owen, for all his windy aggression, couldn't knock the skin off a rice pudding.

KarlosKKrinkelbeim · 19/11/2017 21:16

Sorry that should be “their parents.” My son has asd. I told her that too. No whit abashed. Just vile.

KarlosKKrinkelbeim · 19/11/2017 21:15

I lost all respect for Zoe Williams years ago when I heard her say, in connection with the Tory government, “do they think we’re educationally sub normal?” I spoke to her afterwards and told her how offensive her language was to people with special needs and her parents. She looked at me like I was shit on her shoe. Arrogant, hate-filled woman.

cuirderussie · 19/11/2017 21:05

Guiltily enjoying the Guardian fight, they've dragged in Nick Cohen and Martyn Robbins in the pile-up!

HouseholdWords · 19/11/2017 20:52

It seems to be the de facto word that TRAs turn to when they want to describe any opinion, however mild, that they disagree with

Before they start on:
bigot
TERF
cunt

and all the rest of them ...

hackmum · 19/11/2017 20:20

Selma: I doubt the Bennett piece was commissioned. She's been writing a weekly Observer column for years, so I imagine she gets to choose her own subject. She's senior enough to be able to say what she likes without fear of recrimination, so she probably decided it was time to take a stand against TRA bullying.

Incidentally, I was interested that Zoe Williams used the word "spiteful". It seems to be the de facto word that TRAs turn to when they want to describe any opinion, however mild, that they disagree with.

SelmaAndJubjub · 19/11/2017 19:30

'But what on earth is it with the Guardian/Observer? Surely it's very bad form for their own journalists to be scrapping in public like this

I suspect it's the Guardian belatedly waking up to the fact that it has been alienating readers with its pro-TRA stance and its silencing of GC women. But it doesn't dare upset the Bro-gressives with an editorial stance that questions Trans ideology, so instead it commissions an opinion piece that it can disown if the reception is too negative.

Backingvocals · 19/11/2017 19:18

OMG that video! What a nauseating little prick. He’s Rik from the Young Ones meets David Brent with an added helping of self satisfaction. Love Campbell’s majesterial glare.

IrenetheQuaint · 19/11/2017 18:58

Thanks nauticant! I think that because I'm not on Twitter myself I can't read whole threads. Or something.

SaskiaRembrandtWasFramed · 19/11/2017 18:52

'But what on earth is it with the Guardian/Observer? Surely it's very bad form for their own journalists to be scrapping in public like this.'

It is. But as they're so desperate for money maybe they should make the scraps pay-to-view.

SaskiaRembrandtWasFramed · 19/11/2017 18:46

Gah, watching him in that video he's even more obnoxious in person than his writing suggests.

nauticant · 19/11/2017 18:38

Like this:

Zoe and Owen look to suit each other quite nicely.

IrenetheQuaint · 19/11/2017 18:36

I can't see that tweet on Tanya Gold's timeline, can you link? (And the only tweet I can see on Zoe Williams' timeline complains about Catherine Bennett slating Owen Jones but doesn't reference the actual point at issue.)

CecilyNeville · 19/11/2017 18:27

And Tanya Gold has joined in, pointing out Zoe W has done similar to her.

Gappyonthetwits · 19/11/2017 18:27

I think Owen Jones is becoming less and less convincing with his self righteous posturing, to be honest.

Any old fool can see that society having to redefine basic terms like man, woman, and biological sex - whose meanings have been universally understood for centuries - and then forcing everyone to go along whether they like it or not for the sake of a tiny minority, is nothing similar to the right of individuals to have relationships with whomever they please.

Being gay does not involve potentially becoming a life long medical patient, being given drugs from before the beginning of puberty, possibly being made sterile, and likely subject to invasive and painful surgeries.

It's just such an obvious false equivalence. Owen Jones wasn't around for the fight for gay rights. He missed it. He's now found a cause by which he thinks he can make his name. But it's backfiring on him, because no other civil rights cause has ever necessitated trashing the rights of others in order to win.

hackmum · 19/11/2017 18:18

I'm really disappointed in Zoe too.

But what on earth is it with the Guardian/Observer? Surely it's very bad form for their own journalists to be scrapping in public like this.

SelmaAndJubjub · 19/11/2017 17:17

Zoe Williams is now defending him on Twitter, calling Catherine Bennett 'spiteful' and those who agree with her article 'pearl-clutchers'.

Very disappointing - I'd always respected Zoe.

53rdWay · 19/11/2017 16:23

Ahhh, but that’s other men on the left, you see. Not him, he’s different. Same as he understands oppression in terms of class (but not when the class is women), that’s different), or how terms like ‘chav’ work to ridicule, dehumanise and paint as threatening (but ‘terf’ is different). We should listen to him about feminism, he’s got it alllll figured out!

Meanwhile loads of my Twitter timeline is cheering him on about the ‘all-out assault’ on trans people, and how trans people are under threat. But not by the violent men who do actually harm and kill trans people, nooooo - by radical feminists, clearly that’s the real danger! The fucking wilful blindness it takes to talk about trans POC sex workers in south/Central America being at risk (which is true!), but then blame it on feminists, not the men harming them. FFS.

I know Alastair Campbell has some rather questionable moments but I'd rather him in charge that that wee tosser

And he writes well
